What did Paul mean by being led by the Spirit of God?
That Spirit of God that now dwells in us vindicates our sonship in a number of ways:

translated - guide, carry, bring, lead

life, as a way of existence
life, as the essence that directs the existence and movement of an organism
Man’s life - existence, movement - is directed by the life that is in him
animal life, plant life, human life
sinful life, godly life

real Christianity is not a religion, it is a life, essentially different from what man is used to, because it not governed and directed by the natural life, but by the Spirit of God, which is Life eternal and divine.
the indwelling Spirit of God identifies our “sphere of existence”
animal life - identifies the animal from plants and humans
human life - identifies the human apart from animals and plants
Spirit of God - identifies the Christ apart from sinful life

13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
Romans 8.12-
We are “debtors” - obligated
we feel the obligation because the old life wants to have its way.
the memories, feelings, desires and principles of the old life remains as long as we are in this body
The Spirit of God wants us to “put to death” the deeds of the flesh
to stop completely so that it ceases its activity

adoption - grk. HUIOTHESIA, a legal proceeding in which a parent-child relationiship is established
Romans 8.15
adoption, as a legal proceeding, puts away the fear of a person from threats and worries.
Abba, Father - a bold claim of sonship

We are “heirs of God”
inheritance is not earned or bought - it is given to a child of a father
We are “joint heirs with Christ”
outside of Christ we have no claims to God
the Spirit of God says we are now “in Christ”
The Spirit of God helps us “look down” on present suffering and to LOOK UP to our glorious inheritance!
Romans 8.18-
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
The Spirit of God in us GROANS and WAITS WITH EXCITEMENT for the “final adoption”
groaning - vocal indication of pain
eagerly wait - to wait or hope for something expectantly
Note - if the whole world is groaning and laboring in birth pangs today, how much the Christian who has the Spirit of God in inside of him/her!

Conclusion
Christianity is not a religion - but a life, aunique kind of existence.
To be a Christian is be governed by the Life of God to directs you to your future place with God.
