As we get back to our series in the book of want to catch you up to speed.

Last time we were together we looked at Jesus ministering in Galilee and calling the disciples to follow him.
We look at what following Jesus looked like.
Today and next sunday we will look at a day in the life of Jesus. We will see that Jesus minister in the synagogue but he also ministered to people outside of the synagogue.
We will see that Jesus ministry was not confined to a building but it was happening everywhere.
This is a great hope for us during this time that we have to figure it out new ways to minister to one another outside of the church building while we hope to be together in one room soon.
Join me as I read and we look at Jesus ministering at the church.

21 They went into Capernaum, and right away he entered the synagogue on the Sabbath and began to teach. 22 They were astonished at his teaching because he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not like the scribes. 23 Just then a man with an unclean spirit was in their synagogue. He cried out, 24 “What do you have to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” 25 Jesus rebuked him saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” 26 And the unclean spirit threw him into convulsions, shouted with a loud voice, and came out of him. 27 They were all amazed, and so they began to ask each other: “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” 28 At once the news about him spread throughout the entire vicinity of Galilee. 29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went into Simon and Andrew’s house with James and John. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was lying in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. 31 So he went to her, took her by the hand, and raised her up. The fever left her, and she began to serve them. 32 When evening came, after the sun had set, they brought to him all those who were sick and demon-possessed. 33 The whole town was assembled at the door, 34 and he healed many who were sick with various diseases and drove out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. 35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he got up, went out, and made his way to a deserted place; and there he was praying. 36 Simon and his companions searched for him, 37 and when they found him they said, “Everyone is looking for you.” 38 And he said to them, “Let’s go on to the neighboring villages so that I may preach there too. This is why I have come.” 39 He went into all of Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
When religious people are offended by biblical truth, it’s because they have valued Mankind’s opinions over God’s word.A religious gathering devoid of Jesus’ presence doesn’t even provoke a demon.Jesus was fully man and fully God.When Jesus speaks, even the demons must obey Him!Demons can oppress a believer but never possess a believer.

Mark chapter 1, as we began to look at last week, really “sets the stage” for Christ’s ministry. From Mark chapter 1, we are able to get a pretty good idea of how busy Christ truly was during His ministry on the earth. KJV 1900And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.Our days begin and end at Midnight/12 AM. The Jewish day, however, did not. They Jewish day began and ended at sunset, or approximately 6:00 PM. So the Jewish Sabbath day began at 6:00 PM on what we would consider to be Friday evening.The following verses, , tell us what Christ’s day included:Christ taught in the synagogue.Following Christ’s teaching, He cast out an unclean spirit in the synagogue.After the services, Christ went to Peter’s home which, apparently, was located in close proximity to the synagogue. While there, Christ healed Peter’s mother-in-law.“At even, when the sun did set,” which would have been the end of the Sabath (or 6:00 PM on Saturday evening) Christ was bombarded by the entire city. KJV 1900And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils. And all the city was gathered together at the door.To end His day, Christ healed the sick and casts out many devils.It would be easy to read through this account and not truly appreciate how “busy” Christ was during His earthly ministry.Each day we live, we have at our disposal 24 hours—1,440 minutes—86,000 seconds. He had the same amount of time that we have. And yet, we would all likely agree that Christ accomplished much more with His time than any of us have ever dreamed!

He also was like us in that He needed to get alone with His Father in heaven. His outer Man having been renewed by a few hours of sleep, His inner Man had to be renewed too. And He needed guidance for the day, which was even then tingeing the eastern sky with the first rosy signs of the dawn.

He entered the synagogue. This was the religious stablishment that they met in. This would be our church buildings.
Jesus went to church and did what?
21 They went into Capernaum, and right away he entered the synagogue on the Sabbath and began to teach.
Began to teach. But he did not teach like everyone else.
22 They were astonished at his teaching because he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not like the scribes.
People were in shock astonished because he taught: AS ONE WHO HAD AUTHORITY.
Literally the word means “to strike with panic or shock.” It means that his preaching struck them like a blow. Barclay renders it that they were left “thunderstruck.”3 Jesus’ preaching carried a powerful punch.
What was so different about Jesus teachings?
He taught as the Author. With the authority from God.
The Scribes taught by trying to elevate their authority. I studied under GAMALIEL…etc etc… they tried to elevate their taughts, their desires, their ideas.
Jesus preach from the authority of God.
When religious people are offended by biblical truth, it’s because they have valued Mankind’s opinions over God’s word.
They were offended because they were literaly adding and removing from the word of God as they saw fit.

We see this so prevalent today. Whatever we don’t like about the bible we try to remove it. The question is when does one stop.

If Christ, during His earthly ministry found it necessary to spend time in prayer, how much more should we spend time in prayer?D.L. Christ taught in the synagogue- with authority.
We see this so prevalent today. Whatever we don’t like about the bible we try to remove it. The question is when does one stop?

Quick application here for you. Does your church value the authority of God’s word. Does the preaching come from the authority of God’s word or mans opinion.
Following Christ’s teaching, He cast out an unclean spirit in the synagogue.
Here is the second thing that we see Christ do in the church.

One of the reasons his preaching was so shocking was because of how clear it was.

Following Christ’s teaching, He cast out an unclean spirit in the synagogue. mark 1:23-27
Now this man was probably there all the time. This was not likely the first time that this man was at the synagogue. He went to worship, and prayer.
Do you see what happens when the teaching at a religious gathering does not have the authority of God.
One Pastor says:
A religious gathering devoid of Jesus’ presence doesn’t even provoke a demon.
And it doesn’t he is there. But here is what I love about this passage.
The demons testify about Jesus:
24 “What do you have to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
Jesus was fully man and fully God.
The unclean spirit testified that Jesus was fully man and fully God.
The Religious Leaders were all trying to figure it out who this man was. Well… an unclean spirit testified to them.
So far in Mark (and we are only in Chapter 1) we have:
John the Baptist testified that Jesus is the Messiah.
God the Father testified that Jesus is the Messiah.
The Disciples testified that Jesus is the Messiah.
Now. An Unclean Spirit testified that Jesus is the Messiah.
Question:
Have you testified? Have you admitted that Jesus is the Messiah? That He is the son of God that came to died and cleanse you form your sins?
If not don’t wait any longer. Procaling Jesus as your Messiah. As the Son of God sent to cleanse you form your sins today. Call on him, turn to Him, Follow Him today.
As we continue to see Jesus ministering in the synagogue. We get to see his authority in full effect.

So let me ask you this question as we finish:

Is the authority of the word of God enough for your life?
We live in a time where many are fearful of what will this corona virus do to the church. What will happened to Christianity and to the church if we can’t no longer do: Childrens ministry, youth events and lock-ins, special music sunday or whatever else.
What will happened if we wont be able to attract people to our facilities and our programs for a while?
I’ll tell you this:
As long as there are man and women that submit themselves to the authority of the word of God. The the word of God is enough for their lives we will be fine because will be through the authority of God’s word that the church will be built and rebuild because nothing can stand against the word of God.
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow— in heaven and on earth and under the earth— 11 and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Here is the thing all of us will have to submit to the authority of God over our lives. Don’t wait until is too late. Submit to his authority today.

I read this quote on facebook this week:
"In three short months, just like He did with the plagues of Egypt, God has taken away everything we worship. God said, 'you want to worship athletes, I will shut down the stadiums. You want to worship musicians, I will shut down Civic Centers. You want to worship actors, I will shut down theaters. You want to worship money, I will shut down the economy and collapse the stock market. You don't want to go to church and worship Me, I will make it where you can't go to church'
Maybe we need to take this time of isolation from the distractions of the world and have a personal revival where we focus on the ONLY thing in the world that really matters. Jesus!"-unknown
I agree with that quote very much but I wonder about something.
What if part of the reason we can’t go to church is because:
we have been more concerned about the way we do church than the reason we go to church.

So naturaly we gravitate to one question: What’s God concerned about? What does He want me to do?

Which leads to the question every person struggles with:
What is God’s will for my life?
Tomorrow morning, when you wake up, what are you going to be concerned with? Are you going to be concerned with the will of God? Or are you going to be concerned with the will of your employer?
