Read the Apostles’ Creed
The Apostles’ creed is an ancient text that helped the church define some essentials to the faith in the midst of a turbulent time that sought to introduce false teachings to the community of Believers
It has served the church as an anchor point of orthodoxy.
A place where we can go back and see what the foundations of our faith have been so that we can hold tight to the truth of our God
A creed is simply a statement of belief
To believe in our context isn’t to mentally acknowledge as true… but to fully rest in the truth.
To allow the truth to change how you live your life
The Apostles’ Creed is the Church’s way, not to be churchy, but to declair what it is that we believe in the midst of so much craziness
We have some things we stand on as a community that has historically and biblically kept us grounded in times of chaos
Just to quickly recap
To allow the truth to change how you live your life
Last week Pastor Shelly did an awesome job preaching on Jesus being Lord!
Jesus Christ, meaning Messiah or annointed one, is the only Son of God
Meaning he is also God
Some versions say the only beggoten son, our Lord
Begotten isn’t created. You can only beget something that is the same kind of thing as you are
You create lesser things
As a human I can begat a human. I can create a doll
God begat God. Jesus is the son of God and therefore is GOD. Not lesser than, but co-equal and divine.
He is also our Lord.
Meaning Boss. He’s in control. in the great commission, Jesus tells us that ALL authority in heaven and on earth was given to him.
He is control of it all
he has FULL authority
That means if you are a Christian you Believe, remember to fully rest in, you beleive that Jesus is your Lord
He calls the shots.
You seek his will first
Today we are going to dive into the incarnationality of Christ
Say Incarnationality (I don’t think that’s a word, but I just made it one if not)
This is of utmost importance for the church today in the midst of the Coronavirus
What do we truly believe about the incarnation of Jesus?
The Creed says “Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate...”
It’s very important for you to understand that Jesus Christ
Yeshua ben Joseph
Was a real person Who walked the earth
That the immortal God indwelled flesh
That Jesus was 100% God
co-eternal… Omnipotent, omnicient,All Good
He was also 100% man
Born of the virgin Mary
Concieved by the Holy Spirit… not of the seed of man. Didn’t carry with him original sin
He was born in Bethlehem. Lived in Egypt. Raised in Nazareth
I Believe (fully rest and rely in the fact that) God chose to step into dirty broken life and put on the likeness of sinful man
Jesus, who we already established is God and our Lord
He was also a very real person who dwelled among the people of God
He went to Hebrew school
he was circumcised
He had freinds
he laughed with people
He wept with people
He lived in living color up close and face to face with the reality of all that humanity has to offer
Jesus presented us with pure love and gave us the image of the invisible God
It is in Jesus’ incarnational… that is his real life walking the earth, that we are able to see exactly what God is like
We know that God cares for the widows and orphans, Why? Because Jesus cared for the widows and orphans
We know that God seeks that which is lost
Because Jesus saught lost ones
We know that God cares for the broken, the scared, the lonely, the hurting, the mourning, the sick,
Because Jesus did all those things
The only sinless man, who was also fully God, lived and suffered among us
And we, his people… are called to follow in his footsteps
John 13:35 ESV
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
We believe that Jesus Christ was born through the miraculous, lived in obscurity, and suffered in shame. We believe that as he walked the earth he lived a life with us
As his followers we beleive that he still walks with us through the presence of the Holy Spirit and in his body, the Church
We are supposed to be living incarnationally
WE are supposed to be the hands and feet of Christ
Now more than ever, the church needs to be loving neighbor, checking on shut ins, praying fervently, living in bold faith, proclaiming the truth of God’s word
It is time for us to fully rest in the belief that our God and our King walks with us and is calling us to walk and live as his kingdom ambassadors even in the midst of pandemics, loneliness, heartache, and frustration.
Let’s pray
