            A.        Our sins are the cause of His great love. Where sin did abound grace did more abound.

            B.        His love is not reflexive in nature, but proactive in the sending of His Son.

TITLE: Mother's Love Is Stronger Than Death

AUTHOR: (unknown)

DATE: 9/9/01

William Gladstone, in announcing the death of Princess Alice to the House of Commons, told a touching story. The little daughter of the Princess was seriously ill with diphtheria. The doctors told the princess not to kiss her little daughter and endanger her life by breathing the child's breath. Once when the child was struggling to breathe, the mother, forgetting herself entirely, took the little one into her arms to keep her from choking to death. Rasping and struggling for her life, the child said, "Momma, kiss me!" Without thinking of herself the mother tenderly kissed her daughter. She got diphtheria and some days thereafter she went to be forever with the Lord. Real love forgets self. Real love knows no danger. Real love doesn't count the cost. The Bible says, "Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it." Song of Solomon 8:7

            B.        His love when fully manifested in us produces life.

IV.      The manner of His love. 1 John 3:1-2

            A.        We are adopted as His children.

TITLE: To Quip

God's Love

For a brief time in the 1980s, Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs enjoyed popularity as exotic pets. Unfortunately, the pigs did not live up to their reputation as ideal pets, often becoming aggressive and weighing up to 150 pounds. What do you do with an unwanted pig? Pork roasts are not the answer; the meat is tough and stringy.

Fortunately, Dale Riffle came to the rescue. Someone gave Dale one of the pigs, and he fell in love with it. The pig, Rufus, refused to use its litter box and developed a craving for carpet, wallpaper, and drywall. So Riffle sold his suburban home and bought a five-acre farm in West Virginia. Before long, the guy was living, literally, in hog heaven.

Rufus has been joined by 180 other pigs who, according to U.S. News & World Report, snooze on beds of pine shavings, soak in plastic swimming pools, and listen to piped-in classical music. They socialize in age-graded affinity groups. They never need fear they will one day become bacon or pork chops.

Dale Riffle told the reporter, "I think we're all put on earth for some reason, and I guess pigs are my lot in life."

It's amazing that anybody could fall so in love with pigs. Even more amazing is that an infinite, perfectly holy, majestic, awesome God is passionately in love with insignificant, sinful, sometimes openly rebellious, frequently indifferent people like you and me.

            B.        We are loved as a choice.

            C.        We are ultimately shaped in His image.

Illustration This is sort of like the way we start looking like one another after a few years together.

V.        The maturing of His love. 1 John 4:17-18

            A.        His love will be perfected in us when we stand before Him on that judgment day fully accepted in the Beloved.

TITLE: Love Looks Past The Pain

AUTHOR: Zig Ziglar

DATE: 9/25/01

Love is not always giving others what they want; love is doing for others what is best for them. That reminds me of my close friend, really, he's more like a brother, Bernie Lofchick, from Winnipeg, Canada. His son, David, was born with cerebral palsy and initially had a very difficult time.

When David was about 18 months old, Bernie and his wife, Elaine, had to put braces on David's legs every night. The doctor instructed them to make the braces progressively tighter, which caused considerable pain. Many times David pleaded, "Do you have to make them so tight?"

Today, David is an active, healthy, successful businessman with a beautiful wife and three beautiful children. David's success story is the result of a love so deep that the Lofchicks were willing to do for David what was best for him, and not what David wanted at the moment.

Think about it. Make that kind of love paramount in your life.

            B.        Our love is perfected in the here and now as fear is driven out and is replaced by love. Fear is the opposite of love.

            C.        Love is demonstrated as mature when we love one another. (4:12)

Illustration The Haitian pastors had sincere and deep questions about the business of loving one another.

WHY DO PEOPLE FALL IN LOVE?

-"No one is sure why it happens, but I heard it has something to do with how you smell ... That's why perfume and deodorant are so popular." Mae, age 9

-"I think you're supposed to get shot with an arrow or something, but the rest of it isn't supposed to be so painful." Manuel, age 8

WHAT IS FALLING IN LOVE LIKE?

-"If falling in love is anything like learning how to spell, I don't want to do it. It takes too long." Glenn, age 7

-"Like an avalanche where you have to run for your life." Bart, age 9

HOW DO YOU MAKE LOVE ENDURE?

-"Spend most of your time loving instead of going to work." Dick, age 7
