Romans 5:8 ESV
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
The rythem that Paul uses a lot in Romans
Cause and effect.
If / then statements
Why is it important to find a primary cause?
Better appreciation of how you came to receive the effect.
Knowing the primary cause is needed to share with others. (witness)

Romans 5:1–5 ESV
1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Romans 5:1–2 ESV

Romans 5:1–5 ESV

(this next question requires you to place these benefit in a situation where they matter.)
You are in an elevator explaining to a friend who really needs to hear about one of these benefits. What do you say to them. (remember your in an elevator so you have to be brief)
“I feel like something bad is waiting around the corner.” (peace)
“I have a lot on my chest but I have a hard time expressing myself.” (access)
“My life has exploded, I just don’t see any silver lining.” (hope)
Romans 5:6–8 ESV
6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
To you, what the most fascinating part of this passage of scripture?
We did have to “pre-qualify”
Paul uses three words to describe the lost here.
weak
ungodly
sinner
Do you believe these are/ were true about you?
Are they still?
Why do you suppose it was important for God to Paul to use these words to describe us.
Dependency
Our natural
Living for God isn’t natural desire
We are inclined to sin.
This is a lifelong problem we need to address.

Romans 5:9–11 ESV
9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Romans
Two parts:
Death of Jesus - we were reconciled
Life of Jesus (resurrection) - we are saved.
