Are we there yet? At the end?

Acts 2:17 ESV
17 “ ‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;
Hebrews 1:1–2 ESV
1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

Two Questions by the disciples

When will these things be?
What will be the sign?
Your “coming”
The end of the age

Signs from Jesus to keep His disciples from being fooled (vs. 4-14)

false Christs who will lead many astray (v. 5)
hearing of wars and rumors of wars (v. 6)
Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom (v. 7a)
famines and earthquakes in various places (v. 7b)
Acts 11:28 ESV
28 And one of them named Agabus stood up and foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world (this took place in the days of Claudius).
Such historical records as we have for the first century mention earthquakes in Asia Minor in ad 61and in Italy in ad 62, in Jerusalem in ad 67, and another serious earthquake at an unspecified earlier date in Palestine.

8 All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.

Christ’s coming shines like lightning! (v. 27)

What is the Christian to do while we wait for Him?

Don’t be led astray (v. 4)

Endure to the end (v. 13)
Proclaim the gospel to the world (v. 14)

9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!
Christ’s coming has been immanent since the close of the 1st century! (1 Thess 4:11-18; 2 Thess 2:1-12)
