Taking Possession of the Spirit We Have Been Given

People in the congregation so that I feel preaching. I know I'm probably more people maybe than I've ever preached in my entire life because I know this can go all over the world but glad that have those of that are here. They're helping with the livestream and I just said thank you all for the scares and coming out to the Lord's House and helping us with this but I just just a joy always to have an opportunity to preach the word of God as always and your brother Daniel to preach for you behind your Pulpit. I Feel So Unworthy to stand behind this sacred desk knowing who preaches here weekend and week out and what kind of man of God he is Mound City Baptist people that are watching never take for granted what God has blessed you with in your pastor. He's a he's God's man and I just I just thank the Lord for it but it's a joy to be here with you tonight if you're at home, and you. Hope you got your Bible with you. I get your Bible out and learn to 2nd Timothy 4. Number one. I'll be in 2nd Timothy chapter number one this evening. And the law for an opportunity to get out of the house tonight. The Lord has blessed me with a job where deer in this. Which has been perfect, but I have got to experience part of what my wife goes through on base is staying home with my brother. We've got a text that I've heard time and time and time again ever since the Democrats hit the United States of America. I've heard the verse 2nd Timothy chapter 1 verse 7, but I'm glad she going to read when I start verse 1 through 7, but I've heard this verse quoted so many times it says for God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind, I've heard that quote it so many times over the past few days every time I heard it quoted I wanted whoever quoted it to just explain it tell the people they can have that Spirits because somebody who is afraid hearing that verse a believer that loves God that's moving forward for God they're doing I forgot but they're scared to death because this pandemic and they're saying well, that's the spirit I have accessed. And I don't have that why must be doing something wrong and it really discourages them. That's why it tonight that I feel like the lord has laid this text on the part because I want to tell everyone your and everyone to me how you can take the spirit that God has given you and I because God has given us that Spirit of power and love and of a sound mind but it doesn't come to us. It takes work on our end. It takes work our part and we're going to see in the text before I see her tonight how we can have this Spirit of power and of love and of a sound mind I preached this morning this evening on the thought taking possession of the spirit that we have been given how to take possession of the spirit. We have been given so if you have your Bible 2nd Timothy chapter 1 read along with me verse number one the Bible says Paul An apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God according to the promise of life, which is in Christ. Jesus to Timothy my dearly beloved Son grace mercy and peace from God the father and Christ Jesus our lord. I thank God whom I serve for my forefathers with your conscience that without ceasing. I have remembrance of the in my prayers night and day greatly desired to see the being mindful of by tears that I may be filled with joy when I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in the which was first in a grandmother Lois and I mother Eunice and I am persuaded that in the also wear for I put the in remembrance that they'll stir up the gift of God, which is indeed by the putting on of my hands for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind, let's pray for just a moment. Heavenly father. I thank you Lord Jesus for the Wonderful opportunity. I thank you Lord for this medium. We have here tonight or that although we cannot meet together a thank you Lord that we can meet together via online through Facebook different Avenues a video Lord. So we thought tonight taking possession of the spirit that we have been given that we have in this excerpt the Apostle Paul riding to Timothy his son in the Paul knows that he's about to leave the sink. He's about to die. He knows that he's about to leave Timothy who's already prone to stomach issues interferes and maybe doubt he wants to leave him with this this letter so that he can be encouraged because Paul knows that the same persecution the same struggles the same trials that he faced or probably Timothy. So he rides his letter to Timothy to encourage him but to implore him to get in the word of God in do these things that we Here tonight so that when the trouble does come we'll be ready for it see church. We have access to a spirit that can help us to shine the light of the Gospel to this Lost World in the time that we live in but it takes work on our part to get it done. We cannot just wake up one day and have the spirit of power and of love and of sound mind wish we could but we can't we've got to do some things and that's what we see here in this text and I'll Point these things out and then we'll be done brother. Daniel said it would be short I'm praying it will be I will go as quickly as I can but there's a lot of ground to cover here. So we see here if we are going to have this Spirit take possession of the spirit that we have been given we must number one as Paul says here. We must remember we must remember the Bible says error while starting birth before and reversing revived as well greatly Desiring to see the being mindful of my tears that I may be filled with joy when I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith. And remember what God did in his life. That's the whole point of what he's saying here is to remind Timothy of what God has done in his life. And naturally the first place that we should go as Believers and he wanted Timothy to go as a Believer the Western salvation. Do you remember where you were when God saved your so maybe you don't remember the exact day or the exact time, but you remember a time in your life when God changed your life when he convicted your Heart search for lost on your way to hell and then showed you that you died. You would have split hell wide open, but then he showed you that Jesus died on the cross for those things. I remember the night. I got saved as an 8 year old boy. I remember the Lord had that with me a little but not before I didn't really know what was going on, but then not the next night before the preaching ever started as they were singing the songs that they were singing a song called the part. They were singing the song where or stand at the White Rock great white Throne process to those that don't know him depart from me is that you workers of iniquity. I never knew you and at that moment. Open my eyes as that, you're a boy. He showed me although I had maybe murdered anybody Hormel though. I hadn't committed adultery or though I wasn't a drunk or he showed me that I was a sinner on my way to hell now. We need to understand that we are we are not going to help because of what we have done. We're going to hell because of what we are without cheese or Sinners every person to ever be born is born to send the Bible says for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God Alma. But in God's eyes just like you just like me your Center in the Bible tells us that they tells us for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God than our sin has earned us death Romans. 6:23 says for the wages of sin is death. That means we're going to physically die one day but also means you're going to spiritually. So that when we die we split hell wide open and spend eternity there forever and ever and that's scaring me right now during this time of pandemic when you do it, if you're scared to death, you don't know who to believe. When what with the symptoms or how bad it really is. I can't imagine being a lost person right now brother Daniel. I can't imagine being out there tonight watching this not knowing Jesus knowing that if I were to get this and I could die at any moment. It would scare me to death but I buy thank God that burst doesn't leave us there. Yes, everyone that has ever been born as a center on their way to apply. Called hell, but the body that gross going on sale for the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Thank God that you can be safe tonight. Your sins can be forgiven tonight. You can go to bed tonight knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior having your past present and future sins forgiven and all you can do is cry out to him. So many religions so many belief system for the world today. They say that you got to do do do this. And if you ain't in you still don't know if you get to Go to Heaven by thank God the Bible tells me that it has been done in Jesus Christ. And all you've got to do is the Bible says in Romans 10:13 for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be safe. That means you out there on Facebook and I don't the internet internet tonight. If you've never cried out the garden salvation, I know for a fact that this pandemic has opened so many eyes is scared. So many people I by God's grace had the privilege actually over Facebook Messenger. Of leading our young ladies across the other night and I praise God for that and then and that showed me that they hurt getting saved helped her whole family and maybe that's you out there tonight. Maybe you're scared to death. Maybe you're afraid to close your eyes not knowing if you'll die tomorrow where you'll go but I thank God the Bible tells me if you'll cry out to the Lord because of what Jesus has done your place your faith in him repent of your sins. He will save your soul. I think God for that. He saved my soul. I thank God that he saved me that day changed my life forever and I hope that you're at home tonight. Just praising God for what he's done in your life. But if you don't know Jesus if you're unsure may be right there. Okay by the time I think I'm saved, but I'm not sure what time and time and time again. Once again, I've heard so many men of God saying their hearts right? I'm not saying it's not right when they say it but they're saying do you think you can know that you know that, you know, you're safe and I say that's exactly right amen, but how can you know and I've got two things very quickly how you can know you're saved number. Going through searching the scriptures. You want to know you're safe get in the Bible read the book of 1st John. It's got pissed at the show you if you're saved or if you are lost don't don't go on your feelings. Don't go on your emotions get in the scriptures and it it never changes and it will tell you if you're saved or if you're lost and also the only search the scriptures but survey the fruit in your life does your life because it doesn't it doesn't produce fruit that is becoming of a Believer or does your does your life make the world think you're a lost person you're just like then they said they're saved the world full album and that those are the two ways you can search the scriptures and Survey the fruit in your lives and I believe if you'll do that with an honest. I'll show you if you're lost. Thank God. He was reminding Timothy of what God did for him and saving his soul and I pray that I would never take for granted and that you would never take for granted. Just what God did for us that day brought brought me from Death To Life. As an 8 year old boy. My life is never in the same memories salvation, but he also wanted Timothy to remember a spiritual Heritage reverse number 5 again when I call to remembrance, the unfeigned faith that is in they wished what person that grandmother Lois and my mother Unice. I'm persuaded that in the also know I didn't remind him of his salvation, but he reminded them of what God had his entire family. I believe he want to take me to remember God's faithfulness throughout the years and I believe God wants you and me during this time. The devil wants us to take her eyes off of God and put her eyes on the fear. Just like Peter walking on the water. He wants our eyes off of the Lord Jesus and put her eyes on the troubles around us because he knows if our eyes on Jesus we're going to remember the good things were going to remember how God's blessing. We're going to remember God's faithfulness. We're going to remember how God is taking care of us because there's never been a time that sometimes it may have felt tied. It might be a little scary but there's never been a time that God is not taking care of me. God is not met. My name dog won't eat Timothy or call one and got to 1 Timothy to remember salvation and Paul wanted Timothy to remember his spiritual Heritage watching on Facebook. Let's let's take our mind off of the bath and let's focus on the good. Let's focus on what God has done for us what God has blessed us with because if we're honest there's a lot more that God has done for us and blessed us with then what has happened bad what the devil wants us to focus on the bed and not the good because when we get our house on that just like Peter we begin to sink and that's exactly what he wants. But may God help us tonight to our Salvation and to remember our spiritual Heritage we were God has done for us but not only does Paul want Timothy to remember what we see also that Paul wants Timothy to rekindle he he wants Timothy to rekindle the fire in his heart. Look what the Bible says in verse number 6 it says wherefore I put the Can remember it so basically because of what has God has done for you and in you I put you in remembrance why that dial stir up the gift of God, which is in the by the putting on of my hands. Remember our goal is to have the power and of love and of a sound mind and if we're going to do that, we can't just sit around and watch Fox News and listen to all the Facebook and put it on everything in the world, but we got to take her eyes off of all of that and we got to do some things if we're to have that spirit because remember our goal God put Christian through a they can show the world who they really are. I believe God wants it cuz it's time we should be shining a lot brighter than ever people can say, how are you handling this when the world is falling apart and scared to death. How are you standing true? And you can tell them what it's Jesus, but for in order for us to have that spirit with got to do we got to rekindle and that word rekindle their me or start up their means to rekindle to Kindle up to inflame once more Drink and Zeal. We seeing burst number 6 there and what I'm saying that we need to restock the fire in our hearts it and if people lock their if you got a wood stove out there one the weather is pretty outside and it's hot outside. You don't need them when we don't need to mess with that fire do you but when it gets cold and then gets dreary and it gets lonely you got to stoke the fire and you got those to work up when we need to stoke the fire again, if you're like me when things are good. Maybe you're not as worried about keeping the flame hot, but things aren't good right now. And that's why a lot of people are struggling because life. Even is Ron the Old Testament. They sought God when things were bad, but then when things got good they forgot about God we got to be careful as God's people to keep our eyes on the Lord to keep pressing forward to keep rekindling the flame because a flame takes work ethic to work every single day take to keep hot and I want to use the analogy as I go forward. I preached this text before with a little different hotline, but I want to use the same illustration of a wood stove. And I had a wood stove to house one house to go. I lived in I love the heat that is produced. But I hated to work that it took but when I when I did too when I put in the work I did was necessary to myself and my family were warm and we enjoyed it and felt good and it's the same way for us. Spiritually. It's going to take work. It's going to take stuff. You might not necessarily enjoy. But if you'll do it, you'll enjoy it in the end and you'll have this fear that we had before first number 7 here tonight. So if we want that Spirit, we must rekindle here. We see the number one through or parte I should say through repentance. We must repent now when we look at a wood stove as your stoking a fire and in our case, if you're like a lot of people out there that fire hasn't been stoked in a long time, or maybe it's been a little while but it's time to get stuck what the first thing to do is just to shake out the dead Kohl's we've got to get rid of some dead things some simple things in our life. We've got to get those things out. We've got to repent of seeing a lot of people there big ass in right? How is fear the biggest sin is doubt and I its rightful to be afraid. It's not going to be scared. We don't know but one more fearful were doubting God for someone who is trusting God is shouldn't be is not afraid. So if you're fearful if you're like I have been before if you're fearful when I trust trust in God as we should do we got to repent of that sin and any other person in our life, we've got to get it all out. Remember our goal is to get the Firehawk into have that Spirit of power love and sound mind. But to do that, we've got the first repent the Bible says in Proverbs 28:13. He that covereth his sin shall not Prosper. We can also say there he that doesn't want to deal with his chin. Maybe nobody knows about his sin. You can cover you can hide it but God knows about it. And if you let it go on God's Bible says you shall not Prosper but whoso confess if that means to Castaway so many of us are good at casting away and playing catch with us. I was going to get hit bringing back. But if we want this. We're talkin about we've got a cast it away. It says we who so confess it and forsaken. We've got the cat food away and turn our backs on the other side for sacred Games Shall Have Mercy and another repentance verse 1st John 1:9 if we confess if we see our sin as God sees it we see our fear is God sees it which is doubting him not trusting him. If we confess our sins. The Bible says he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. You say that verses for a lost person that verses for somebody who doesn't know Jesus and that's how they come to know Christ, but on there is nothing to believe. He's right that if you're saved that you repent when you send cuz when a Believer sins, it should hurt. It should bother us and we should repent of the Send immediately our preacher say you got to keep your sinless short. And in these days we really do cuz I want to be able to get ahold of God. I want to stay in touch with God but to do with that, we've got to repair your lives. And here's a verse of that. Everybody is not traditional quoted bunch here lately to 2nd Chronicles 7:14. And this is a verse that is written to Israel. But it is also for us we got to learn that in the Bible. Sometimes a person is not necessarily written to us, but it is definitely for us or it wouldn't be in the scriptures. Can we see your 2nd Chronicles? 7:14 If my people if you were his child this applies to you if my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked way. So he says my people and turn from their Wicked Ways then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land God got people that were the ones that need to repent. If we want God to turn this around to turn this nation around we need to repent of our sins and I'm not saying that if we repent God's going to take covid-19 away tomorrow, but I will say if we repent we're on the road to peace in our heart no matter what comes our way. If we'll just first repent of our sin. We got to get rid of those dead Kohl's but not only do we have to do repentance. Do we rekindle our plane about the next step as I would deal with the wood stove which never Grumble and complain and I wouldn't enjoy but the next step would be we would have to get air to the plane would have to open all the doors that we got rid of the Dead codes get air to the flame and went well in in relation to the message tonight. We've got to relinquish our will our abilities our fear because the reason people are afraid today is because we want control we want to be able to control everything but we can't buy thank God. I know who no one that is. Take control and that's the Lord. So what we need to do is we need to be controlled by him with the processing fee since 5:18 and be not drunk with wine. You've got a purse repent and then you've got to relinquish you or your will your body yourself to God the Bible? Isn't Luke 9 23 and 24. He said to them all if any man will come after me let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me Bruce Davis locked or lose it but whosoever will lose his life for my sake the same shall save it. So have you relinquished your will your pride yourself to God because that's how you're filled with the spirit when you when you're filled with the spirit something that you're getting more of the Holy Ghost. That's not true. What what what really is happening when you're being filled with the spirit is you not getting more of the Holy Ghost because you get all of the Holy Ghost when you get saved but it really is the Holy Ghost getting more of you and that's what God wants. You want to be used by God. You don't need any more Holy Ghost you everything you need to have fear it but he needs to get more of you and we've got to relinquish ourselves to him to do that. And I know Aunt in the next thing we have to fear as we get air to the flame. We are seeing if we got rid of the Dead Kohl's we relinquished. Will we stop to be filled with the Holy Spirit then next we got to feel our fire with the right kind of fuel. We've got to get in the word of God. We got to spend time. We got to do it through reading. The Bible says in Romans 12:2 and be not conformed to this world. The world right now is scared to death the world right now has no answers. They can't sell it to nobody people are going crazy. The Bible tells your be not conformed to this world, but if we don't do these things will be just like him, but how do we do it but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind by the changing of your mind that you may prove what is a good and acceptable and perfect will of God to how can I mine be changed? But his Delight is in the law of the Lord and in his law doth he meditate day and not so this man here keep from being like the World by meditating upon the word and look what it says here. Not only does he not do something but look what he does do and he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth fruit in his season. Listen to this his Leaf also shall not wither What that means is in drop seasons and seasons of trials and tribulations that tree that is beside the river with all the other trees are falling failing dying that tree is standing strong because his next to the river and we can be the same way as Christians when the world's falling apart we can stand strong for the Lord. But only if we are rooted deeply in the word of God must meditate in the scriptures day and not bring forth fruit and seeds and sleep also shall not wither and wants to Weber he do it shall prosper, but look at looking worse than before. He wants you to be afraid so many people nowadays pure lately have lost their job at been laid off and I've got to experience this in the people I deal with in my job. They're scared to death and the devil want you to focus on losing your job in the focus in all this fear. Because if you get in the word of God, the Bible tells me that I've never seen we're taking nor his seed begging bread. The Bible tells me that he shall supply all his glory see you're getting the Bible and it tells you something that the devil doesn't want you to hear why he wants you on Facebook. He wants you want to know if you want you everywhere, but right ear because he knows you as a Believer when you get in the scriptures, it's going to change your mind you're going to think differently than this world. You're not going to be afraid when the world thinks you should be the word of God has got power. So we must remember our Salvation we must remember Spiritual Heritage then we must rekindle our spiritual flame through repentance through relinquishing and through reading the scriptures. And when if you I can say upon the thority of God's word that you this. We're about to read about inverse number 7. We're going to see the results here. So many people want verse number 7, but nobody wants Burton wants to do what bus number 5 and 6 say, that's the way there's a lot of times in the Bible. They want the blessing without the work they want what they want and they weren't all the good stuff without putting in the time. God wants to bless you. God wants to bring joy to you. God wants peace to you when you shouldn't have it. But if we for this to happen got to do this she got to get in the word of God. Remember God's blessing upon your life. Remember God's saving your soul. Remember God's faithfulness and then get in the get in the word of God and get filled with the spirit and repent of all sin. Keep your scene with short is that preacher said if you'll do that, we seem verse number 7 look what it says for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind if we do these things what kind of spirit would we have first we'll have a Spirit of Courage Bible says of power dunamis. That's when we get off work Dynamite. We have got access to a power. We don't know anything about for the most part where God wants to do great things. There was he wants us to be create. He doesn't want us to be afraid because when his children I'll be afraid it makes him look bad, but when his children are courageous in the midst of troubles and trials, it makes God look good. We could we have access to the Spirit of Courage Bible says in Acts chapter 1 verse number 8 where you shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost has come upon you and you shall be Witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and other most part of the earth. God wants you to be a witness to the world. And you can do that through the power that is given you that you have access to so we will have a Spirit of Courage, but I believe that power is to fault but also a spirit of capability. God God God stuff in his word that he wants all of us to do but so many people like I can't do it. I don't know how to do it. I don't have the ability to do it. You're exactly right. You don't for the Bible tells me and Philippians 4:13. I can do all things through Christ who strengthen its me all things and actually in this moment in Paul's life. He was referring to suffering Paul Westie. I can't endure this so I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. He said even in my troubles even in my trials Christ Christ strengthens me we can do all things without Spirit of Courage is fear the capability and also a spirit of Charity that that is unheard of right now right now, it's me myself and I was get all I can get in my house shut the door and don't let anybody in And I can I can understand that a little bit but God's people right now once I said I said earlier, it's our time to shine like brother Daniel with his operation Love Thy Neighbor it's time to love and I'm not saying that's why I said charity.
