History of Israel

Israel kept failing to keep God’s commands and worship Him only.
As a result, God let the enemies of Israel defeat and overcome them.
The Israelites eventually repented from their worship to pagan gods and commited themselves to the Lord, under the leadership of the prophet Samuel.
Now, God was with Samuel throughout His lifetime and not one of Samuel’s word from the Lord failed. Because Samuel from a young age served the Lord and was chosen by Him. He was dedicated by His mother Hannah who was barren and the Lord gave her Samuel as a child.
Samuel’s sons did not worship the Lord so the Israelites asked for a king to be just like the other pagan nations.
1 Samuel 8:1–21 NIV
1 When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as Israel’s leaders. 2 The name of his firstborn was Joel and the name of his second was Abijah, and they served at Beersheba. 3 But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice. 4 So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. 5 They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.” 6 But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. 7 And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. 8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. 9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.” 10 Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking him for a king. 11 He said, “This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. 12 Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. 13 He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. 14 He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. 15 He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. 16 Your male and female servants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use. 17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. 18 When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.” 19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.” 21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the Lord.
1 Samuel 8
The people rejected God not Samuel and they wanted to be common like the world, instead of being holy like the Lord commanded them. For the Lord was their king.
God fought their battles and lead them in battle, but the human heart wants a God that they can touch and see with their own eyes. They would rather have sight in the natural than faith in the unseen.
Christ is our King!
2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV
7 For we live by faith, not by sight.
2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
2 Corinthians
We have a king who goes to battle for us and leads in life.
The Israelites had the constant problem of idolatry and returning to old ways. Sometimes the church has the same problem serving other things or not letting go of old habits and making that the god of their life. Returning to the familiar and things that we can touch or feel that never satisfy the human heart.
America has fallen to this way of living as they see fit. Just like the days of Judges.
Paul wrote to the Corinthian Church to separate themselves from pagan worship and idolatry. Also, to not be yoked with unbelievers. That is in relationships for marriage or sleeping with them.
Fellowship with Darkness?
2 Corinthians 6:12–18 NIV
12 We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. 13 As a fair exchange—I speak as to my children—open wide your hearts also. 14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” 17 Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” 18 And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
2 Corinthians 6:12
2 Corinthians 7:1 NIV
1 Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.
Can darkness and light walk together?
Surrender to the Lord the areas which have been hindering your walk with God.
By growing in the grace of God mediated through the Spirit of holiness.
Do you know why the Holy Spirit speaks to and leads you to Jesus?
It is because He is leading you to sanctification because as long as Jesus is the King of your life then He is perfecting holiness in you out of reverence for God.
The Holy Spirit purifies you of every thing that contaminates body and spirit.
Paul reminds the Corinthian Church why Jesus came.
2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV
21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Don’t let it be in vain!
God heard and rescued you by His grace.
2 Corinthians 6:1–2 NIV
1 As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain. 2 For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
2 Corinthians 6:1-
The Israelites didn’t realize how good they had it as God as their king, but instead gave their rights to a human king, which each king of Israel failed.
God helped and heard them when the Philistines were about to destroy them.
That’s us sometimes we trust more the advice of others and let our own heart decide what’s right because anything that is not number one in life except God alone is idolatry.
Testimony about getting married in September rather than March or April.
Do not reject Jesus even more so now that we have the Holy Spirit who indwells inside of us as the Spirit of Jesus.
We have no excuse now that we can actually feel the Lord inside of us and His jealousy for us. He is a jealous God.
2 Corinthians 5:14–15 NIV
14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
2 Corinthians 6:14–15 NIV
14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?
2 Corinthians 6:
Are you convinced?!
We don’t longer live for ourselves for we have a King and with Him bring His Kingdom to the nations.
Do you want more of Him and less of you?
Do you want more of Him and less of you?
