This week; The eighth commandment; Do not Steal
Do not steal.
What kind of thefts are there
theft from people
material possessions that we simply take
money
either gained wrongly
wasting time at a job when you’re paid by the hour
hoarding
keeping way more than you need while others are going without
how much toilet paper do we really need?
borrowing with no intention of paying back
theft from God
I am not talking about stealing from the church, though that would be bad...
I once told a somebody selling the church something, I really do not know a lot about what your selling, you could be ripping me off, just know that you are ripping off the church and God
nothing like a little pastoral guilt…
money
speaks of not giving God a tithe is robbing from God
time
the day that we are to keep holy devoted to God
we might give him an hour or two that day… but really the entire day
But WHY we steal is the real question that we need to look at
we can put up roadblocks to attempt to help us or have somebody watch us all the time
but our heart still desires or feels the need for more than what we have
we can come up with many different reasons, but I believe that they all boil down to one main reason
we simply do not trust God.
So my hope is that through this, you will not need steps or barriers to keep you from stealing, but truths to know that will stop your wanting to steal
Three truths;
I can trust God for my needs
I can trust God for my good
I can trust God for my salvation

I Can Trust God for My Needs (Phil 4:19)

So when the government begins to tell you that you are not to really go anywhere or do anything, I am sure a lot of people started really thinking about what it is that the needed
not that they wanted, although I am sure that comforts were thought to be needs
but what is it that we have to have,
everyone went crazy thinking that was toilet paper and hand sanitizer
Heather and I went on Monday to grocery shop and there were a lot of things missing
medicines, meats, paper towels, toilet paper empty
while at the store in Jetmore was told that there were people coming in from out of the county to buy things there because bigger towns were without
And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Who is going to take care of us…
God helps those who help themselves right
No! where do we read in scripture that God wants you to work and take care of anything and he will come and help only where you fall short
We think that we have to rely on ourselves, we have to rely on government programs or whatever
Can God use other people, the government or any means to supply our needs, sure
But what we have seen on the news this week, or the stores if you have ventured out, is a lot of people who are not trusting in God to provide but selfishly making sure they got theirs
I would rather instead rather rely on the creator and sustainer of all things to see me through and give me what I need
When we moved here, Lynn Pelton tried to scare us for about two years
He kept telling me, well, we don’t know if we will have enough money next year to pay you or not we will just have to see
I haven’t missed any meals, my family has been taken care of
so much so, that I have people in KC who don’t know the Lord tell me that I lucked into this job
I get to explain the difference between blessing, God’s providence and luck
Needs means our necessities… We have been through that
I tried to explain to Heather how a nice Harley trike is a necessity to further God’s kingdom
imagine all the souls that could be saved as I ride around on a bike like that
she didn’t buy it, in fact she has told me that I cannot get a motorcycle unless we both get one, when I say deal, she tells me we cannot afford it
according to HIS riches
this is the part that we start to worry about
for every animal of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.
God tells them he doesn’t want their animals… He has everything
If he has everything we can rely on him for anything
v10 is not meant as a finite number, but to show an infinite amount,
We think of God as only having so much
and if I do not get what I need from him now, or at least before you, he may run out before he gets to me
like a grocery store… if I do not run inside and grab enough supplies for the rest of my life I will not make it through this!
so we steal, we hoard because we are in a crisis and we take care of ourselves
tells us that he provides from his riches in glory! our of his everything he supplies us with what we need
Do not limit God in your disbelief and mistrust… God will provide for your needs out of HIS RICHES

I can Trust God for My Good (Rom 8:28-30

We often talk about our needs, and what real needs are, but rarely talk about what is good for us or what “my good” is
We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; and those he called, he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified.
The believers
Here Paul is writing to the Romans and is very careful to make note specifically that this promise is not just made for everyone
we sometimes through this out there like it is a truth for all people
when somebody is in the hospital or loses a loved one, well, all things work together for the good
it is like we forget half of the verse… there is more to it
for those who love God
You adulterous people! Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? So whoever wants to be the friend of the world becomes the enemy of God.
You adulterous people! Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? So whoever wants to be the friend of the world becomes the enemy of God.
not the world… the world is an enemy of God hostile toward God
God is not taking all things and working them together for the good of the non-believer
We are special and this should give us hope as to what God is doing in us
all circumstance
why is this important… look what it is he does for those who love him
do not be fooled by the circumstances in your life
to often we think that if something is hard, or we are experiencing bad times, we must be out of God’s will
work together for the good…
what is the good
there is a lot of false teaching or simply not knowing so we assume to know what that means
it is not about your wealth or your health
does God want you wealthy in the way we think of wealth,
Jesus said that it was harder for a rich man to go to heaven than a camel through the eye of a needle
there is nothing in this passage that is talking about money or possessions
your good is your conforming into the image of Jesus, your being justified, your being glorified
this is much greater than simple worldly riches
this is who you are in the eyes of God
your sanctification
that God is going to take all the experiences of my life, use them to mold me and shape me to be more like Jesus
there is nothing better

I can Trust God for My Salvation ()

This is so important to remember
Not only can I trust god for my needs, not only can I trust God for my good
but I can trust God for my salvation
not because of a promise that is to come
but because Jesus has already paid the price for my sin and yours
the wage that is due, the debt that is owed because of our sin has been paid
Jesus took the wrath of God that was due us, upon himself
But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Not only did Jesus already pay the price for our sin, he ensures we stay with the father
He did not wait until we called out to pay the price, he did not
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He did not even spare his own Son but offered him up for us all. How will he not also with him grant us everything? 33 Who can bring an accusation against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies. 34 Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the one who died, but even more, has been raised; he also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us. 35 Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: Because of you we are being put to death all day long; we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered. 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I love this passage for a couple reasons
Paul is confident
Because of you
v38 says Paul is persuaded KJV &CSB, ESV = sure, NASB =convinced
we are being put to death all day long;
we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered.
NASB has a very good translation of this word from the greek, to have confidence, to be convinced
what is Paul convinced of, that there is nothing that can remove us from the love of God
These promises… why would we ever think that we needed to take care of ourselves
We can rest in him today, knowing that He will provide our needs, our good and our salvation.
Do you believe those promises?
have you put your faith in Jesus to supply all your needs, to take away your sin?
If not, may I ask that you do that today… Simply pray and ask God to forgive you of your sin, express to him that you desire to trust him and not rely on yourself, ask him to save you
I am going to ask everyone to meditate on a song for a few minutes now…
you may have heard this song, before, but it might be new to a lot of us
I ask that you listen, the lyrics will be on the screen, meditate on those words and allow God to minister to your hearts.
then where ever you are watching this, if you are with your family or a small group or even by your self, close in a word of prayer.
we are not watching a show, but hearing the word of God and my desire is that he will speak to all of us where ever we are
