How many believe that we should feed those who are starving to death?
How many believe that we should try to rescue children sold into sex slavery?
How many believe we should bring medicine to those dying of disease?
How many believe we should take the gospel to those who have never heard it?
How many believe we should take the gospel to those in our community who don’t know Jesus?
If we know that the Bible calls us to help the poor, meet the needs of those who are suffering, and take the gospel to those who haven’t heard it, why don’t we?
We are called to be a doer, not just hearers

Be a Doer

James 1:22–25 ESV
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
James 1:
James 1:26–27 ESV
26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. 27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
It is extremely easy to know what you should do and to desperately avoid doing it.
There is a huge difference between knowing God’s Word and doing God’s Word.
There are people who can quote the Bible to you left and right, but they have never done the Bible a day in their life.
That is ludicrous.
Do you realize that you can study this book passionately your entire life and if you never apply what you read to your life it will be a life wasted?
James describes this by saying it is like a man who looks intently at his face in a mirror and forgets what he looks like as soon as he looks away.
Christianity is an active faith
It is not a religion that gives us the liberty of stamping our ticket to heaven and waiting for the rapture to come.
We are called to a lifetime of learning God’s Word and doing what we have learned.
When you read the Bible or listen to a sermon, does it go in one ear and out the other or do you apply it to your life?
When you read the Bible or hear a sermon, these are questions you need to ask yourself:
What does that mean?
Do I need to make a change?
How can I apply that to my life?
This is the last lesson in our Something Needs to Change series
Will you be a doer of the Word, taking what you have learned in this series and doing something about it?
Or will this just be another Wednesday, another lesson, another series, where you listen to what is said, let it go in one ear and out the other, and live your life absolutely no different?

Something Needs to Change

The way the typical American Christian does Christianity is flat out wrong.
We have created a religion for ourselves that allows us to be compassionless converts to a system that expects nothing of us.
We don’t have to care for the needy, the hungry, the sick, or the dying
We don’t even have to worry about the spiritual condition of those around us.
The only thing we have to do or worry about is to attend our weekly club meetings on Sunday.
But that is not the Christianity of the Bible
The Bible demands much more from those who claim to love its Writer.
We are urged to count the cost.
So the question for you is this:
Are you going to choose comfort, or are you going to choose the cross?
Does something need to change in your life?
There are millions upon millions of people on this planet that do not have enough food to live, have no one to love them, are dying of preventable diseases, are being sold into slavery, and have never even heard of the name of Jesus. What are you going to do about it?
