Those who hunger after righteousness

Matthew 5:6 CEV
6 God blesses those people who want to obey him more than to eat or drink. They will be given what they want!
The question you must ask yourself is what are you longing for? What is your desire?
I recently made a decision that I was going to spend more time drawing closer to God. Now let me explain what I mean. As a minister people automatically assume that I just have oodles of time to just be in God. But the reality is that I actually don’t between all of my ministerial duties and just doing life, I honestly am left with about 12% of time. So I had to make a choice to sacrifice what was not as important to me as me being with God and not preparing a sermon or a Bible Study lesson, but just me being in and with my heavenly Father.
So again the question is proposed. What is your desire?
When you think about the first part of this verse, God blesses those people who want to obey him more than to eat or drink. You see the importance of this desire. We have all seen what hunger can do to a person. It can cause them to become aggressive and scavengers, among other things it can drive man to do. And this is what Jesus is saying here, the person who is hungry for God is blessed! You will be satisfied, you will be filled up and hunger for nothing else, no material things, no money, nothing that can’t truly satisfy you.
Isaiah 55:1–2 NLT
1 “Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink— even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk— it’s all free! 2 Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food.
Isaiah 55:1-2
Have a repentant heart. God’s grace and covenant will bring you fulness and joy.
Accept the invitation to participate in God’s provisions and covenant.
But there is conditions to this and at the end of the day you have a choice to make and accept your outcome pertaining to those choices you make.
Matthew 6:33 NLT
33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
This is all tied to a condition, and in the end God will provide what you need.
Matthew
Isaiah 55:1–2 NLT
1 “Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink— even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk— it’s all free! 2 Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food.
So if you are hungry for God, He will give you what you need, you will become fat or blessed on the things of God. Which in turn will bring you blessings on all these other things.
Isaia
1 Peter 3:12 NLT
12 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.”
Have a repentant heart. God’s grace and covenant will bring you fulness and joy.
Will you suffer persecution in this life as a believer? without question. But when you take your prayers to the Lord as a righteous person that goes without question that He will provide for all of your needs.
But God will also remove His blessings from you if you do evil. This is not just for unsaved but for saved too. It’s a fair warning to say; seek His righteousness.

A certain man wanted to sell his house in Haiti for $2,000. Another man wanted to buy it, but because he was poor, he couldn’t afford the full price. After much bargaining, the owner agreed to sell the house for half the original price with just one stipulation: he would retain ownership of one small nail protruding from just over the door.

After several years, the original owner wanted the house back, but the new owner was unwilling to sell. So the first owner went out, found the carcass of a dead dog, and hung it from the single nail he still owned. Soon the house became unlivable, and the family was forced to sell the house to the owner of the nail.

The moral of the parable is, “If we leave the devil with even one small peg in our life, he will return to hang his rotting garbage on it, making it unfit for Christ’s habitation.

The merciful

Matthew 5:7 CEV
7 God blesses those people who are merciful. They will be treated with mercy!
Be forgiving and forgetful, not a fortress who is fortified.

Matthew 18:21–35 NLT
21 Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” 22 “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven! 23 “Therefore, the Kingdom of Heaven can be compared to a king who decided to bring his accounts up to date with servants who had borrowed money from him. 24 In the process, one of his debtors was brought in who owed him millions of dollars. 25 He couldn’t pay, so his master ordered that he be sold—along with his wife, his children, and everything he owned—to pay the debt. 26 “But the man fell down before his master and begged him, ‘Please, be patient with me, and I will pay it all.’ 27 Then his master was filled with pity for him, and he released him and forgave his debt. 28 “But when the man left the king, he went to a fellow servant who owed him a few thousand dollars. He grabbed him by the throat and demanded instant payment. 29 “His fellow servant fell down before him and begged for a little more time. ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it,’ he pleaded. 30 But his creditor wouldn’t wait. He had the man arrested and put in prison until the debt could be paid in full. 31 “When some of the other servants saw this, they were very upset. They went to the king and told him everything that had happened. 32 Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, ‘You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me. 33 Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?’ 34 Then the angry king sent the man to prison to be tortured until he had paid his entire debt. 35 “That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.”

John D. Rockefeller built the great Standard Oil empire. Not surprisingly, Rockefeller was a man who demanded high performance from his company executives. One day, one of those executives made a two million dollar mistake.

Word of the man’s enormous error quickly spread throughout the executive offices, and the other men began to make themselves scarce. Afraid of Rockefeller’s reaction, they didn’t even want to cross his path.

One man didn’t have any choice, however, since he had an appointment with the boss. So he straightened his shoulders and tightened his belt and walked into Rockefeller’s office.

As he approached the oil monarch’s desk, Rockefeller looked up from the piece of paper on which he was writing.

“I guess you’ve heard about the two million dollar mistake our friend made,” he said abruptly.

“Yes,” the executive said, expecting Rockefeller to explode.

“Well, I’ve been sitting here listing all of our friend’s good qualities on this sheet of paper, and I’ve discovered that in the past he has made us many more times the amount he lost for us today by his one mistake. His good points far outweigh this one human error. So I think we ought to forgive him, don’t you?”

Matthew 18:21
We have and will all face hurt, but in the end of whatever you face you must let go and be willing to move on and forgive.
Minister I can’t, you don’t understand how bad they hurt me. You are right and I wish I could say to you that I do understand, but I don’t and won’t belittle your pain you have faced, but I tell you that God knows and will heal you of your pain if you allow Him.

Forgiveness is surrendering my right to hurt you for hurting me.

Don’t take the position that and old successful Irish boxer became preacher had taken.
He happened to be in a new town setting up his evangelistic tent when a couple of tough thugs noticed what he was doing. Knowing nothing of his background, they made a few insulting remarks. The Irishman merely turned and looked at them. Pressing his luck, one of the bullies took a swing and struck a glancing blow on one side of the ex-boxer’s face. He shook it off and said nothing as he stuck out his jaw. The fellow took another glancing blow on the other side. At that point the preacher swiftly took off his coat, rolled up his sleeves, and announced, “The Lord gave me no further instructions.” Whop!
James 2:13 NLT
13 There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.
Luke 6:36 NLT
36 You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.
Luke
God desire for us is to demonstrate deep, loving compassion and not destructive demonic hate.
Matthew 5:8 NLT
God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.

A person who shows no mercy and compassion for people in need demonstrates that he has never responded to the great mercy of God, and as an unredeemed person will receive only strict, unrelieved judgment in eternal hell (cf. Matt. 5:7). Mercy triumphs over judgment. The person whose life is characterized by mercy is ready for the day of judgment, and will escape all the charges that strict justice might bring against him because by showing mercy to others he gives genuine evidence of having received God’s mercy.

As children of God we must all learn to practice forgiving and being forgiven if we do this then we will be ready for our reward in heaven, as our Father is forgiving.

The peacemakers

let me close with this poem - it’s titled “A New Leaf”

The righteous who suffer persecution

“Have you a new leaf for me, dear Teacher?
Matthew 5:10–12 NLT
God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. “God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.
I have spoiled this one!”

I took his leaf, all soiled and blotted,
And gave him a new one, all unspotted;
Then into his tired heart I smiled:
“Do better now, my child!”
I went to the throne with trembling heart;
The day was done.
“Have you a new day for me, dear Master?
I have spoiled this one!”
He took my day, all soiled and blotted,
And gave me a new one, all unspotted;
Then into my tired heart He smiled:
“Do better now, my child!”
Let mercy have its way and God will make away for you.
