Introduction: The Wrong Question

One card off - Phase 10
Being close, but being one card off still holds you back

Created Good

Creation is a good gift of God
This sermon should really be re-heard after reading all of and 2
If you would ask someone off the street what the main point is, you’re likely to hear the refrain: it is good
The world was created good, and it’s a goodness that reflects the creator
Last
Genesis shows the mystery and majesty of the creator (and creation)
Last Wednesday in Bible study, we read this, and questions and comments invariably come up about the creation:
I wonder what this looked like
Can you imagine that?
We naturally look at the creation, but we rarely look and see the creator - & 2 show the majesty, the goodness, the creativity, the mystery of the creator
When we ask who, what, and why rather than how, we get a much different picture of Genesis
Creation reminds us that the world isn’t the way it should be
Sin can overwhelm our view of the creation and of one another
Yet it should never alter our core understanding of the world

Reflecting the Community

Creation reflects the nature of the Trinity - God in community
If you grew up in Sunday School, you grew up learning the Trinity, but did we learn what it meant?
Largely a mysterious doctrine of the church we had to know, like knowing how many feet away from the end of a road you’re allowed to park
But the Trinity teaches us that God is God in community, never alone, each part of the godhead perpetually relating to the others
It’s no surprise, then, that the creation of the Triune God is a creation that is built for and relies on community, or relationships
Four ways we are made for relationships:
God
- love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength
this love is also an act of worship
it gives definition to all of the others
One another
- not good for the man to be alone
- love your neighbor as yourself
perfect harmony at all the deepest levels
59 “one another” verses in the NT; says to worship God and then tells us how to live in community
Self
for some, possibly the hardest to understand and order
proper love of self - we each are a creation of God’s, a gift of God
neither a god nor mere matter
Creation
- stewardship of all creation; taking part in God’s work in God’s example
- no one to work the ground; it was created to be worked
All of these should result in the worship of God
