Title: Give us our daily needs

Theme: We can have faith and trust in God, which gets lived out in the now.

ME: ORIENTATION: FIND COMMON GROUND WITH THE AUDIENCE

How will we live out our faith?

What are we willing to do?

In our journey of faith there can be moments when we are afraid.

In our journey of faith there can be moments when we act outside of faith.

In our journey of faith when we need to be reminded to breathe and trust

Today we struggle with the unknown?

Coronavirus has so many unknowns that call question to our faith.

How do you prepare for what you don’t know?

Schools, sporting events, many things shut down.

College students off to April or cyber schools.

Elderly at risk, I suppose Children

GOD: ILLUMINATION (THE GOAL IS TO RESOLVE THE TENSION

I. God will supply our needs

Give us today the food we need (NLT)

A. God cares for our Physical needs

daily or today became a troubling word,

And against an item on it was the word epiousios. It was a note to remind her to buy supplies of a certain food for the coming day. So, very simply, what this petition means is: ‘Give me the things we need to eat for this coming day. Help me to get the things I’ve got on my shopping list when I go out this morning. Give me the things we need to eat when the children come in from school, and the family come in from work. Grant that the table is not bare when we sit down together today.’ This is a simple prayer that God will supply us with the things we need for the coming day.

We struggle with the thought of having only a days supply of food. Many don’t experience this.

God meet are daily needs. We struggle between wants and needs. We may not get everything we want but God meets are needs.

* It teaches us to live one day at a time, and not to worry and be anxious about the distant and the unknown future

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

about life, what you will wear or eat.

This petition very wisely reminds us of how prayer works. If people prayed this prayer, and then sat back and waited for bread to fall into their hands, they would certainly starve. It reminds us that prayer and work go hand in hand and that when we pray we must go on to work to make our prayers come true

Prayer, like faith, without works is dead.

26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

What value are we in God’s eyes?

God values us ! He sent Jesus!

27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?

Worry accomplishes nothing

28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,

29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

We have little faith: I wonder if we were aware that God is with us if we would feel this way.

Get to know God.

31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.

The more we know God the more our faith grows.

II. What we do and don’t do will make a difference

A. Living in faith

We just said the more we know God the more our faith grows

We need to exercise faith is grows .

The more we serve God the more we build the kingdom

Conclusion:

To trust God is have faith he will provide.

To trust God is to live life in the moment.

To Trust God is to be a person of faith.

To Seek God’s Kingdom is to know Christ, share Christ, serve Christ by touching others.

Lockdown

Yes there is fear. Yes there is isolation. Yes there is panic buying. Yes there is sickness. Yes there is even death. But, They say that in Wuhan after so many years of noise You can hear the birds again. They say that after just a few weeks of quiet The sky is no longer thick with fumes But blue and grey and clear. They say that in the streets of Assisi People are singing to each other across the empty squares, keeping their windows open so that those who are alone may hear the sounds of family around them. They say that a hotel in the West of Ireland Is offering free meals and delivery to the housebound. Today a young woman I know is busy spreading fliers with her number through the neighbourhood So that the elders may have someone to call on. Today Churches, Synagogues, Mosques and Temples are preparing to welcome and shelter the homeless, the sick, the weary All over the world people are slowing down and reflecting All over the world people are looking at their neighbours in a new way All over the world people are waking up to a new reality To how big we really are. To how little control we really have. To what really matters. To Love. So we pray and we remember that Yes there is fear. But there does not have to be hate. Yes there is isolation. But there does not have to be loneliness. Yes there is panic buying. But there does not have to be meanness. Yes there is sickness. But there does not have to be disease of the soul Yes there is even death. But there can always be a rebirth of love. Wake to the choices you make as to how to live now. Today, breathe. Listen, behind the factory noises of your panic The birds are singing again The sky is clearing, Spring is coming, And we are always encompassed by Love. Open the windows of your soul And though you may not be able to touch across the empty square, Sing.
