Text: Lev 17:14a

Title: The Blood

Introduction: Long before medical science discovered the significance of the circulation of the blood in the human body and its importance for life, Scripture told us that the blood was the life. In the human body there are many different kinds of tissues. We define them as muscles, nerves, fat glands, bones, connective tissues etc.  All of these have one thing in common: they are fixed cells having specific and limited functions.  Unlike these fixed issues, the blood is fluid and mobile, it is not limited to one part of the body but it is free to move thru out nourishing and cleansing.  In the human body 5 quarts are pump the heart very 23 seconds so that every cell is body is constantly supplied and cleansed and at the same time is in constant communication with every cell in the body.

However, once the blood fails to reach the cells and members of the body the promptly die and no man ever dies until the blood ceases to circulate. Life is in the blood.  You can’t live without the blood.  This us points to greater spiritual truth.  The church of Jesus Christ is called his body and we are members of his body. Like how the blood flows in the body.  Each member of his body depends on the blood of Jesus to live and be effective. The church cannot live w/o the blood. Life is in the blood.

But something happen the blood that God created us to have.  It is not pure and effective as it was designed to be. It has been contaminated. You might be the one responsible for doing it yourself or you could just be an unassuming victim of something that got into your blood by a bad blood transfusion.  But the fact of the matter is our blood is not that good anyway.  Human blood due to the fall of Adam is prone now and forever to contamination.  Our blood can be diseased, it can clot. It can thin.  Its volume can be insufficient. It can cause an aneurism.  But blood is still vital.  Even though it is perishable, we can not be alive without it.  However, if there is life in the blood and that is the believers hope!

There is a blood available that is incorruptible that won’t be contaminated with disease and won’t clot. There is not going to be any plaque build ups therefore no aneurisms.  It is pure and perfect.  It not only sustains your life but it will give you eternal life!  The life it gives is indescribable for our mortal words to explain.  We can receive this life by just believing in this blood.  The blood I am talking about is the blood of Jesus.

Resurrection Sunday we come to celebrate the power of the blood!  God wants to give someone a blood transfusion from heaven to give you a new life in Jesus Christ.

The blood is good new for us who believe.  We have promise tied to it.

Promises of the blood

I. The Blood keeps us clean

1 John 1:7b, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin”.

Some of us are dirty and we need to be clean.  The blood is Bible bleach that will make you whiter than snow!  Your sins are wiped away.  God gives you a new slate on life because of the blood of Jesus.

II.   The Blood Justifies

Rom 5:9 “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him”

Justified means cleared from any charges or guilt.  Why do I need to be cleared of any charges?  I am guilty!  I was a sinner. But I was acquitted from my wrong because of the blood.  When God see me, He looks at me through the blood and can see no wrong in me!  So despite what people may think, you been justified by the Blood of Jesus!

III.  The Blood Redeems

Eph 1:7”In him we have redemption through his blood,”

To redeem means to purchase something back that has been lost. I was lost in my trespasses and sin but Jesus thought I was worth it and paid a ransom for me. He paid the high price of his blood just for me.  He paid the penalty so I can get out of bondage.  And I am back where God intend me to be. That is with him.

IV.  The Blood give us peace

Col 1:20 “and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross”

The blood makes me at peace with God. I no longer make God turn away from me but I make him turn toward because I give him glory in my living.  We are in relationship now!  Without God, it is worse than losing you best friend.  But with Him, you have a friend that sticks closer than a brother.  God is with me and I am with God and life is good!

V.    The Blood sanctifies us

Heb 13:12 “Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood”,

Sanctification means to set apart for God or to be holy.  The blood makes a sinner like me holy in the sight of God.  God sets me on apart from things that are not like him. I have been sanctified when I said yes to Jesus and I am being sanctified by the perfecting work of the Holy Spirit until the day I meet Jesus in the air!

Result: The Blood give us Victory

Rev 12:11 “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb”

The result of the blood of Jesus is that you as a believer I am victorious.  In other words, you win!  I am not a loser any more.  I am more than a conqueror because of the blood.  I can do all things in Christ because of the blood!  No weapon can prosper because of the blood!  I win! I am victorious! It was the blood of Jesus that gives me the victory.

But what is in the blood that makes it so powerful to bring these promises?

Blood is made up of three components:  erythrocytes, leucocytes, antibodies. These three components remind me of what Jesus’ blood does in my life. Again, Blood is a fluid tissue that connects to all body parts.  It is our life line.  Without blood, you are dead.  If we break down the chemical components of blood to its three main components that shows us what Christ does in our salvation process.

Erythrocytes

Erythrocytes are red blood cells that oxygenated the body for energy and bring nutrients.  Also, they remove waste in the blood stream keeping it clean.

Jesus is like my erythrocytes.  By the power of His blood I have the power and the nourishment I need in my life not just to live but to live abundantly in Him. The power the blood of Jesus also keeps me clean from the toxins of life.

Leucocytes

Leucocytes are white blood cells. They are the defense mechanism part of the blood.  When something is infecting the blood, they rush to the site of the infection and fight what is attacking the blood.  The amount increases in time of emergency.  However, some of these cells are killed.  Then more blood and other white blood cells come to the scene and clean up the battle field and build new tissue in the once infected area.

Jesus’ blood is like my leucocytes. When something was infecting me that would have killed my soul, Jesus rushed to the scene and fought for me. The more trouble I got the more increases in my emergency! Like some of the leucocytes, He died in the battle for my life.  But the blood that was spilled not only saved me and like leucocytes, healed me but raised Him from the dead with all power!

Antibodies

Antibodies are there to prevent the disease that once infected from happening again.

Jesus is my like antibody.  Once he has delivered me for a situation, He is there to make sure that I don’t have to deal with that issue again.  He who the son set free is free indeed!

Close:

Every drop of blood which flowed in Jesus body is still in existence and it is as fresh today as it was then.  It is the same blood that flowed from his unbroken skin on his forehead in Gethsemane. It is the same blood the smeared is back after being cut by whip of glass and sheep bone.  It is the same blood that the crown of thorns squeezed out his brow.  It is the same blood that the nails caused to ooze out of his hands and feet.  It is the same blood that came out of his pierced side.  It is the same blood that died for me that gives me victory.

I know it was the blood. I know it was the blood. I know it was the blood for me.  One day I was lost, He died on the cross I know it was for me!

It was my Savior’s blood.  It was my Savior’s blood. It was my Savior’s blood for me! One day I was lost, He died on the cross I know it was for me.

Now: Would you be free from the burden of Sin?  There is power in the blood.

Would you o’er evil a victory win?  There is power in the blood.

1 Cor 15:55 “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?”

Pleading the blood is simply the taking hold of the authority and power available to us by the death and resurrection of Jesus.

When a sacrifice was offered and its blood was shed, it meant the giving of a life for the life of another. The innocent victim died in the place of the guilty sinner. Throughout Scripture, it’s the blood that makes the atonement. Any theology that ignores or minimizes the blood isn’t founded on the Word of God.
