Colossians 2:4–8 CSB
4 I am saying this so that no one will deceive you with arguments that sound reasonable. 5 For I may be absent in body, but I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see how well ordered you are and the strength of your faith in Christ. 6 So then, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, 7 being rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with gratitude. 8 Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elements of the world, rather than Christ.

1) False teachings often sound reasonable on the surface.

a) Remember, Christ is sufficient

b) Remember, the Word of God is sufficient

c) Have a discriminating mind

2) The church is always in a battle for truth.

5 For I may be absent in body, but I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see how well ordered you are and the strength of your faith in Christ.

a) Remember who you are

b) Stand together in one spirit: The Spirit of Jesus

c) Stand together with one mission: growing the kingdom

d) Stand together with one purpose: glory

3) Disciples look like their Teacher.

6 So then, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, 7 being rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with gratitude.

a) Remember what you believed at the start

b) To whom much is given, much is expected

c) Stay rooted: preach the gospel to yourself everyday

d) Keep growing: the need for spiritual nourishment and exercise

e) Give thanks to God: an exhortation and a result

4) False teachings are empty, Christ is the fullness.
