Temptation
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Word this a little different....
The temptation that over took you is the same temptation that has overtaken any other man.
Every temptation that has overtaken you was not to beg for you to handle in your own ability… That means even in our own human strength we have the ability to overcome it.
Why? Because He also provides a way of escape.
His desire is that you will endure it.
Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.
Things to know.
Overcoming temptation is tough.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
While He was 100% God he was also 100% man.
Jesus never used his own mouth to say “I am the Son of God.” He only agreed that he was on rare occasions. (woman at the well, to Pilate, to Peter)

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written,
“ ‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”
Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written,
“ ‘He will command his angels concerning you,’
and
“ ‘On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.’ ”
Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ” Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written,
“ ‘You shall worship the Lord your God
and him only shall you serve.’ ”
Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.

Your felt need is not always your real need.

When I was on my low carb diet, I could eat tons and tons of salad and vegetables and bacon and eggs and cheese but no carbs… and when I was done I felt hungry. So because I was on this special diet I would go to the fridge and eat more eggs and bacon and vegetables and tuna and what would happen is that I was always hungry.

So I learned a trick… I would eat a couple pieces of hard candy… or put a half a teasoon of real sugar in my coffee. By body would suddenly not be hungry any more. You see, my body didn’t need just food, it needed carbs. But my brain didn’t know how to say eat a slice of bread, it just assumed that if I was hungry I would eat carbs.
money doesn’t make you happy
Doctors will often withhold pain meds so they can see where it hurts and do something about it. So pain actually will point the way to the thing that needs healing.
Alot of times, we don’t really know what we need, we just want to fill an emptiness that exists in out lives.

I used to say that was the answer… He’s God so he has a supernatural ability to withstand the temptation to sin...... Hogwash.
If He gave up the nature of God to become a man it belittles the Word to say that He somehow cheated. He felt everything that we would feel yet still resisted.

The Word of God is the number one weapon we have against temptation.
It warns us
It gives us ways of thinking that aren’t the way the world thinks.

Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ”
God said it. It is true. There is no circumstance that exists that would make it false. There is no test.
Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written,
“ ‘You shall worship the Lord your God
and him only shall you serve.’ ”
Mt 4:
When we try to fill our own need with our own strength, we are worshipping the thing that we are trying to fill the need with.
When we spend too much time worrying about our safety rather than trusting in Him to be our strong tower, we are worshipping the things we us to make us feel safe.
They is only one God and it is Him.

Conclusion
The most important thin we can do is to get in His Word, and Worship Him alone. If we do that right, there will be no room for temptation to overcome us.
