Aseity of God

All attributes that we find in God aren’t thing’s that we attribute to God, but they are things that God has revealed to man.
For categorizing attributes there are many different categories that people put them in. One category that we will look at is Incommunicable and Communicable attributes.

Incommunicable and Communicable attributes

Incommunicable attributes are those that only exist in God, we cannot take part in the attributes and we can only understand them to a degree.
Communicable attributes are ones that we possess. The degree that we possess is limited though.
The reason that we possess some of these attributes is because we are made in the image of God and as such some of these are passed to us.
Three Parts of Asciety we want to look at.

Self-Existence of God

The self-existence of God. He is not dependent upon anything for existence but has eternally existed without any external or prior cause.
Genesis 1:1 ESV
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Not in the beginning was anything else, in the beginning God.
Psalm 93:2 ESV
2 Your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting.
How old? From everlasting.
Psalm 102:27 ESV
27 but you are the same, and your years have no end.
You are the same, this speaks to His immutability that we will look at later. His years have no end.
Revelation 4:8 ESV
8 And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”
There is no possible way that in the universe there was nothing.
“If anything exists, then something has always existed. If there was ever absolutely nothing, then nothing could possible be now.” R.C. Sproul.
Do I exist? Do you exist? Then something had to have existed before. Out of nothing, nothing comes. We must have something for there to be anything.
God had to have existed from eternity past, or there would be nothing.

All life flows from Him

The word aseity means that He has life in himself and draws unending energy from Himself. a se in Latin means from Himself.
His life, His being is what gives all things life and sustains all things.
John 1:4 ESV
4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
In Him was life.
John 14:6 ESV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Romans 9:26 ESV
26 “And in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ there they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’ ”
Acts 17:24–25 ESV
24 The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, 25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.
The God who gives life and breath.
God in Himself already contained all life. He had so much of it that he was able to give it away, He gave it to us and all living things. He isn’t in need of anything for life.

He isn’t in need of anything

When God created man, it wasn’t because He needed our praise and worship, He doesn’t need our counsel.
In God is all wisdom, knowledge.
1 Corinthians 8:6 ESV
6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
From whom are all things. We weren’t created to give Him something that He didn’t have.
Colossians 1:17 ESV
17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
He holds all things together. Not needing anything that we have or can give.
Romans 11:34–36 ESV
34 “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” 35 “Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” 36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
Who has been the counselor of the Lord?
Who can give God something that He doesn’t already have.
Let us remember that the God who we serve is totally self existent. He don’t need anything from us, but the amazing thing is, He desire’s to be with us.
