Armor is needed for a battle!
C.S. Lewis said, “There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.”

I. The Order of the ArmorAll.

A. Truth concentrated in Jesus Christ.
1.To understand righteousness is to understand truth.
2. Our correct understanding of righteousness can not be the standard to the world.
3. The World cannot hold truth’s about righteousness because often times the standard is fixed by who is currently in power. Truth can be hijacked by the person or group of people in power. Hitler made Killing Jews okay. This is one argument against the person who says “truth is whatever you what it to be”. If it is good for you it is good for you. In other words truth is subjective therefore whoever has the power determines what is right and wrong. So many people feel out of control in their lives that the truth begins to shift in their lives.
Cutting, eating disorders, lying, drinking, obsessive behavior homosexuality.
4. To live in a way that is contrary to God’s Holy Word is damaging to your testimony.
B. Righteousness because of faith in Jesus Christ. vs 14
1.To live independent of God is to not know what the battle is all about and even to question your salvation.
2. Be an example in your youth not of what is normal but of Christ.
3. “having” in this verse is putting on the apparel. It is to embrace it. Wear it. Identify with Jesus Christ. You know it and everyone can see it.
4. Armor plates are in place to protect the you physically, but also spiritually.
5. Satan wants your heart. The plates are there to protects your vital organs. We move because of truth, but we must protect the vital organs.
6. How do I become righteous? by asking the Question “What do You Love?”
7. That is who you are! That is your identity.
8. It is who you are … In Christ you can change. You can have victory.
Philippians 3:9 KJV 1900
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

II. The Operation of the ArmorAll

A. The Definition of Righteousness in our lives
1. This is not speaking of the Imputed righteousness that is given at Salvation.
a. We cannot clothe ourselves with that.
b. That is given to us in Christ at the point of salvation.
Question: Then Why be good? If Christ made me righteous then I can be as bad as I want. We should never abuse the gift God has given us through Christ.
2. This is a dangerous mindset that is counter to Paul’s caution of how we treat God’s gift.
a. “Shall we sin that grace may abound, Heaven forbide....”Read on
b. Jesus saved us from the power of sin but also of it’s presence in our life. WE are DEAD indeed to sin but alive to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
c. How we acts does matter before God, world, and Satan.
B. The Danger of Unrighteousness in our lives.
1. We miss the point of Paul’s goals of putting on the Armor.
a. Powerful communion - vs .18
b. Powerful communication - vs. 19
c. Powerful christian - vs. 20
To put on the Armor is a step by step process of Obedience in the Believers life.
IJohn 4:1
1 John 1:4 KJV 1900
And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
2. We miss the blessing of God in our lives.
a. We loose the JOY of the Lord in our lives. Not salvation. Just the Joy of our salvation. Even David prayed for the Joy of His Salvation because of what hidden and unconfessed sin robbed him of.
b.
b. We loose spiritual productivity. I can’t get anything done spiritually. Desert time. No fruit. We need to be spiritual sponges that are soaking up God’s Word.
c. We loose treasures . God calls the works done out of obedience to Him as wood, hay, and stubble and will burn up.
d. We loose a testimony for the Lord. Witness becomes ineffective.
