God our Father you have you have called us together to worship your son Jesus. We are here in your name and your church. We are one building of one amazing Timeless Eternal truth Church Jesus. Thank you. Thank you for bringing us here. Thank you for picking us all up where we were putting us up and putting a right here together for one purpose to bring you glory and in so doing we find ourselves with such a great joy, I can't be expressed. So just give us words of worship and Proclaim your word this morning, give us words of love and fellowship to build up one another and courage one another to be more like you lie and look forward to you returning to maybe you could return today Jesus we ask but until then be worshipped. Thank you Jesus in your name. We pray I'm in so I stand and worship this morning.

I'm going to run the risk of being known as the the pastor who cried tough sermon and ask that you all pray with me this this past week. There's something really beautiful that happens when you commit to preaching through a passage of scripture verse by verse it is that you don't get too conveniently. Skip the ones that are difficult for you or inconvenient and Matthew 5:9 which sounds like a pretty innocuous passage. Sounds like a good when he's going to blessed are the peacemakers. I'm why is that one so difficult, you know, maybe if the sermon makes no sense you'll understand.

If it is going to make sense, the holy spirit is going to have to make sense of it. I've struggled with this. So why don't you pray with me and pray that the holy spirit is really really moves and pray with me again if you don't mind.

Holy Spirit without your voice

it's just shatter. It's it's I don't know. I don't know like a noisy gong or something. We need you. Holy Spirit. This needs to be true that needs to be spoken and loved it needs to be right. We need to we need to rightly divide your word and if that's going to happen it needs to happen by you. So as I as I am off to pray pray through me if you can pray around me to preach through me. If you can't reach around me if you have to but please speak and give us the ears to hear it. I don't I don't want to hear what I have to say. I want to hear what you have to say. And I want your people to hear what you have to say as well. So speak clearly and mightily we ask this morning. Holy spirit. Thank you. And your name, we pray I'm in. continuing in Matthew 5 what's known as the Beatitudes starting and Matthew verse chapter 5 verse 2 and he opened his mouth and taught them saying blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be satisfied blessed are the merciful for they shall receive Mercy blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account rejoice and be glad for your reward is great in heaven for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Two verse nine blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God. So we have to Chi thoughts your three. The first one is that word blessed which we talked about many times eight other times if my calculations are correct. And that means a bitingly happy like an abiding happiness that doesn't fade or go away like regardless of circumstances. You are copy it it sticks with you.

A bitingly happy are the peacemakers. So there's one of her big Ideas this week peacemakers. A bitingly happier the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God. Daughters of God The Offspring of God the children of God We have peacemaking and we have the children of God. So let's talk in names for a minute. Okay, cuz if you are Someone's Child, you are a member of their family right family names in narcos. We have last names in my last name is Shelton. You have a last name to you might even say it to yourself for a moment. There's your last name. That means what to what family do you belong who was your father? Okay names, where do they come from? right So we are known by who our father is. Will be known and defined by what we do.

the True Light which enlightens everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world in the world was made through him yet. The world did not know him. He came to his own and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him who believed in his name he gave the right to become children of God. Who were born not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man but of God? So what we learn from the Gospel of John?

Is that it doesn't even matter who our father is.

Is he God the Father? And we are defined by what we do but the difference in the kingdom is what we do is a reflection of who we are and who we are the adopted Sons and Daughters of God.

Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God so our son ship our daughter ship in God.

It's not difficult for me and John one to say I'm a Child of God because I believe in the son of God. I was giving the faith to believe in him Ephesians 2 tells us that even Faith to believe is a gift of God. So no one can boast grateful was given faith. I place that faith in Christ. I was given the right to be called The Son of God but here from Jesus on mouth.

how to be a peacemaker what is that mean? The Greek word Peacemaker is found nowhere else in the New Testament. Only hear this is the only time the Greek word for Peacemaker is used in in in the scriptures. Another word pieces used a lot 91 X in it it pretty much means what in pretty much means. Peace. It it means holness. Means completeness it if it's between Hebrew sister word Shalom present state of of wholeness and completeness not lacking. the reason I think piece making even the word peace is so difficult for us is because the water has become so muddied and polluted and contaminated and in our culture and in our little English language, the word peace is just it's it's been 10 altered it's been maligned. It's been a little it's been a little predigested and then back up and honestly, it's a lot like our difficulty with with the word love. Using the word love it and it's such a shame. I mean cuz you can't you can't read Jesus. You can't read the New Testament. You can't you can't read the joining Epistles John 1 2 and 3 in every time I I read first John in and I hear love. I just can't because it has become something that it's not.

We experiences as the church proclaiming the truth in in the world rejects. The truth in the world says that that our definition of Truth and Love is actually hatred. When we when we know it's not and what they do is what we are what we are quoted back to what to what we are quoting a quote back to us. Is it even says in your Bible that God is love Right. So why you so unloving when even the Bible says that God is love will let supposed to read that in 1st John 4 during the verse 7 beloved. Let us love one. Another for love is from God, right and that's what I'm just getting a little queasy. Just it kind of just sounds too heavy for me. I just don't know what is love them all it's all hold hands and Yeah can come by.

I thought the scriptures fault. It's the cultures but it's my fault for letting the world in in in its ignorance and its Rebellion staying the beauty of this. Let us love one. Another for love is from God and whoever loves has been born of God. and knows God

anyone who does not love does not know God because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest Among Us that God sent his only son into the world so that we might live through him in. This is love not that we have love God, but that he loved us and sent his son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved if God so loved us we ought to love one another no one has ever seen God if we love one another God abides in us and his love is perfected in US. God is love love is not God. If we want to know. What love means we need to know who God is? We left the heart and character nature of God, Define phoras love itself. God is love. Peace is like that as well.

Jesus is the one who brings peace real peace true. Peace, not our Twisted version, which basically just means be nice and don't make anybody feel bad about anything. That is. Peace.

That is not peace.

He's he's sharp in and he immediately went when I came to and I kind of avoided it cuz I kind of knew it was coming. Jesus from Matthew 10 starting in verse 34 do not think that I have come to bring peace to the Earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword.

This causes a problem.

Jesus says I have not come to bring peace. Blessed. Are those who bring peace?

I have not come to bring peace but a sword for I have come to set a man against his father and a daughter against her mother and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. In a person's enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. I have not come to bring peace. Blessed are the peacemakers so that is a not that apparently this preacher has to untie.

I'm telling the verse that I thought was the problem is the key to understanding.

Okay, just read it. Again Matthew 10:34. Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the Earth.

You don't even understand your own book people in the beginning God created the heavens and made a light and then and then on day 4 he made the Sun. Come on, Christian. He's going to create light and then create the Sun from which light comes. How about this?

Everything tangible is a sermon about something spiritual the original physical was representative of the original spiritual the truth of light and darkness is that light was created Darkness wasn't darkness is not the opposite of light. It's the absence of it. And the first thing God create is this true. God says there is me and then there is outside of me. In me is light and life.

And outside of me. There's darkness and death. That is that is the core spiritual reality of existence. You are either in him and in the lights and in the life and in righteousness. in the day or you're outside of him. in darkness in death

God saw that the light was good Genesis 1 for God saw that the light was good and God separated the light from the darkness. God did not create the darkness. He created the light and then separated the light from the darkness.

And on the fourth day, he creates the sun which is just a sermon about that reality.

And from there. The Lord is first them over the face of all the Earth has the Earth not tried to get back to that spot building that Tower having that one language and that one culture and that one come and go in that one name that they cared about me.

We've been trying to get back to that Tower since the Lord scattered us divided us separated us.

I mean you read that passage in Genesis and it's like you you have to deliberately change the tone of the voice with which you're reading because it it it honestly sounds like a really awesome Noble goal like good job mankind with your one language in your one culture and your one goal working together. That's like the United Nations.

Maybe that's an ugly building in New York is molded it at month month and maybe that's what it looked like.

In in this one passage of scripture. We see the world doing what it claims is the highest and best and we see God doing what he knows.

Is the highest and best not just for his own Glory but for us. Forcing us to depend on him. Destroying the illusion that we can just depend on ourselves. We see God once again dividing and separating. That's curious. Go back to Matthew 10. 30 + 34 do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father and a daughter against her mother and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law and a person's enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever I love son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me and whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it.

Whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Now there's text and there's context text often times is just bam beautiful put it on a coffee mug call it a day. You got some truth in your morning hashtag blessed. That's fine. But context it is it's so important to let's let's read some context, okay.

before Jesus says this About the sword and what not? He says in Matthew 10 certain 16 behold. I'm sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. So be wise as serpents and innocent as doves beware of men for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues. You'll be dragged before Governors and Kings for my sake to Bear witness before them and the Gentiles when they deliver you over do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say for what you are to say will be given to you in that our board is not you who speak with the spirit of your father speaking through you brother will deliver brother over to death and the father has child and children will rise against parents and have them put to death. And you will be hated for all my namesake but the one who endures to the end will be saved when they persecute you in one town Fleet of the next four truly. I say to you you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the son of man comes a disciple is not above his teacher nor servant above his master. It is enough for the disciple. It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher and the servant like his master if they have called The Master of the House be eligible means evil Wicked how much more will they malign those of his household? So have no fear of them for nothing is covered that will not be revealed or hidden. That will not be known. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered fear not therefore you are of more value than many sparrows. Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the Earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword.

Jesus says you are going to be divided from the world.

The righteous of your family will be divided from the unrighteous in your family and you'll be reunited you'll be United to a new family of righteousness.

my Proclaim truth

Will be the sword that makes this division.

Jesus with a sword his truth as a sword dividing and separating. Division and separation. I just can't get I keep saying it. It just say it just they just sound like dirty words. Don't say that you sound like words that we shouldn't like. Yes. Good job. sword-wielding Jesus

We don't like division separation. But what if I said the surgeon is dividing the healthy tissue from the cancerous. What if I said the firefighter is dividing the Flames from your home? What if I said the soldier is dividing the citizens from the brutal dictator and his tools of death and destruction. What if I said the father is separating his child from the man who was abusing her.

What if I said the clinic is separating the attic from the chemicals that were fueling the K in addiction? What if I said the Abolitionist is separating the slave from his chains?

The world wants the absence of conflict. That's that's what they say pieces pieces the absence of conflict. It's everyone tolerating up scratch that tolerance is not good enough. Everyone is celebrating everyone else everyone celebrating everything.

Violence is not the answer unless it's violence against the people that disagree with us.

the world says we need to get rid of all conflict.

And their solution is just to silence the voice of any two Center. whether that be Jesus for the followers of Jesus

This is not new. 1st Kings 18 17 through 18. When a Absol Elijah Ahab said to him is it you you troubler is real.

Elijah answered I have not troubled Israel, but you have in your father's house because you've abandoned the Commandments of the Lord and followed the bails. I have solution to Discord in Israel is just a shoe shop the squeaky wheel. But that squeaky wheel was calling them to righteousness.

Who is real definition of Peace was not to pursue righteousness, but just to silence the voice calling for it? And our current culture our world is exactly the same. But that is not.

but we are called to

We are not called to be silent for the cause of Peace. But to be used by God to bring about true peace. That only comes in Christ.

I grew up in a in a church. Not not a congregation my congregation love Jesus.

Celebrate the fact that congregation was led by my father my congregation. We love to Jesus we were unified in him. I mean crazy old to like brand new fresh baby all of us United in a love and passion for Jesus and his word but the denomination in which we belong all they would talk about was Unity Unity Unity Unity Unity Unity Unity. No matter what Unity we would literally stand and hold hands around a fire singing and unified on a bus headed to hell

Excuse me. I hate to it's a great party. But Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life and the word v and the original Greek is a definite article, which means it can't be substituted for a different article which means Jesus could not have said I am a truth away a life. It is the truth. So if we're entertaining another way. We have no ground upon which to the Unified. Our Unity comes in Christ and to be United in him. We have to be divided from the world. the house absolute rupees we have to be divided from the cheap facsimile. from the knockoff version

Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the Sons and Daughters of God. Peacemakers are not those that sacrifice righteousness on the altar of non-conflict peacemakers will sacrifice anything including themselves for the cause of reconciliation of real piece of real Unity of real truth of a real savior. His name is Jesus.

To be a peacemaker is to be one who separates Darkness from light. We do that to the proclaimed word.

The Christ to his church to be a part of his family. To be divided to be separated from the orphanage. And United in adoption to a family with a father and brother. It was our Lord and our savior.

All things were created in heaven and on Earth visible and invisible whether Thrones or dominions are rulers or authorities all things were created through him and for him and he is before all things and in him all things hold together and he is the head of the body the church. He is the beginning the firstborn from the dead that in everything. He might be pre-eminent for in him. All the fullness of God was pleased to dwell and threw him to reconcile to himself all things. separate from the darkness and unite to himself whether on Earth or in heaven making peace.

Who once were alienated and hostile in mind doing evil Deeds he has now reconciled in his body of Flesh by his death in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him. God separated you from the darkness in his death.

Remember the curtain torn into the holy spirit of God pouring out of the temple into the hearts of all whom Christ raised from the dead.

Christ came to separate his adopted brothers and sisters from sin and death. And he is returning to dispose of that which was separated from us and Unitas to himself. Until then we represent the work of peace that God has done on our insides. to the disbelieving

our job is not to condemn. Thank you. That is your job.

And really when we proclaim the gospel a Romans 10, thank you. Thank you Jesus the Romans 10 faith comes by hearing.

How can they hear unless someone proclaims? How can they Proclaim unless they are sent.

We are sent out into the world. Just to proclaim the truth. We we don't even we don't do the dividing. We just speak in your word does it you do it? Holy spirit you do the dividing.

Good Shepherd, we just speak your words and the Sheep come and the goats ignore. That's her job. That's how we bring. Peace. That's how we represent you. That's how we are like our father. That's how we're like our big brother. We just speak the truth in love and let your Holy Spirit do the work. Celebrate the Victory and we weep over the loss and we wait anxiously for you to return to do that final peacemaking work.
