Proposition:  Living in unity as believers is good and pleasant because it is the place where God pours out abundant blessing.

I.       Introduction

A.     Disunity in the church

1.       9,000 denominations in the World, 635 in the United States

2.       Churches splitting, breaking ties with each other

3.       more common to talk about differences than about similarities.

4.       Questions

a)      Have you ever felt disconnected from the people that you worship with?

b)     Have you ever felt tension in the church?

c)      Do this church feel like a family?

5.       I this what God wants?  Was this his desire when he created the world?

6.       Despite our divisions, our deep longing is for community, with others and with God.

B.      Psalm 133 Gives us Some Answers

·  Sung by the Israelites enroute to Jerusalem for different feasts.  Sing songs to pass the time.

How good and pleasant it is

When brothers live together in unity!

It is like precious oil poured on the head,

Running down on the beard,

Running down on Aaron's beard,

Down upon the collar of his robes.

It is as if the dew of Hermon

Were falling on Mount Zion.

For there the LORD bestows his blessing,

Even life forevermore.
