*And The Giants Keep Coming*        1 Samuel 17:40-46a \\ \\ We have read or heard this story at least a thousand times.
The story of this young shepherd boy David and this huge problem named goliath.
This same David that became King of Israel, the same David that was a man after Gods own heart, same David that said The Lord is my Shepherd and I shall not want.
\\ \\ No matter how many times I read this story I see something new.
But, there is one thing that remains the same: \\ \\ Everyday of your lives you run into your own giants.
These giants come in different sizes and different types.
These giants, these problems always seem to show up un-invited.
And let me just say to you, I know you don’t have to be 18 to experience problems in this life.
You don’t have to be 21 and “quote” legal to have giants in this life.
\\ \\ Too often, *We, Us older folks,  make the mistake of thinking that young folks like you don’t have problems.*
\\ \\ The truth is, Young people have problems that many older folks have never had to deal with.
\\ · Use to be a time when crack was a hole in the wall.
\\ · Use to be a time when coke was a soft drink.
\\ \\
*In fact it seems like problems get worse and worse, that’s why we need to spend more time encouraging our youth instead of getting on their case every time you see them.
\\ * \\ It seems that Every time you turn around you are battling giants.
Giants at school, giants at home we even battle giants in the church.
All around you are giants.
I heard a songwriter sing, “If It Aint One Thing It’s Another” The Giants Just Keep on Coming.
\\ \\ When we look at this shepherd boy the odds looked like they were stacked up against David.
Things did not look too good.
In fact the situation looked mighty bad.
\\ \\ If we’re honest tonight we feel like that sometimes.
Sometimes we feel like we just can’t win for loosing.
David’s giant was almost ten feet tall.
Then on top of that this Giant didn’t have a problem letting everybody know how bad he was.
*A problem always is bigger when you let that problem convince you of how bad it is.
\\ * \\ 40 days & nights Goliath let folks know how bad he was.
He let the people of Israel know that I am Goliath.
If you don’t know you better ask somebody.
I have never been beat before.
I have crushed armies with my single hand.
The Israelite army was defeated before the battle was even fought.
\\ \\ A lot of times we do the same thing, we let the giants in our life whoop us before the battle even starts.
A lot of us young and not so young have allowed our giants to defeat us.
We have allowed the giants of sex, the giants of drugs, the giants or marijuana whatever your giant is, your giant may have convinced you that you don't have any power.
Young people need to realize *that greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world.*
\\ \\ I know that the odds don’t look to good for us on our own.
We don’t have to look far and we don’t have to look long to see that the odds are against us.
Drugs on the corner, guns in the school, police brutality, racial discrimination.
Yeah the odds are against us but we got Jesus.
\\ \\ We can learn a lesson from David.
David didn’t give up when the giants came in his life.
David purposed in his mind that I will bless the Lord at all times and give him praise.
\\ \\ David remembered that God was faithful in his past.
Young brothers and sister David had hope in a hopeless situation.
In verse 37 David said God delivered me from the paw of the Lion and the paw of the Bear.
Goliath is just like any other animal that I have faced in the pasts.
God delivered me from the giants of my past; I know he will deliver me from the Giants in my future.
\\ \\ Whether we know it or not we have a past that is filled with God’s faithfulness, Gods mercy, and Gods goodness.
Battling Giants isn’t anything new to you.
You survived.
You are still surviving segregation and racial profiling and discrimination of all sorts, and that isn’t all because the Giants are still coming.
We are still here.
Not because we are so good, not because we are so kind.
We are still here because of God’s faithfulness.
\\ \\ Paul said I am the chief of sinners \\ Peter said depart from me I am a sinful man.
\\ Isaiah said in the year that Uziah died Woe is me I am a man of un-clean lips \\ Moses said I am an evil man \\ David said I have a wicked heart.
\\ \\ 45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
\\ 46 This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; \\ \\ · 2000 years ago on a hill ½ mile outside old Jerusalem \\ · Jesus battled a giant named Satan \\ · Satan thought he had Jesus where he wanted him \\ · They put Jesus in a borrowed tomb.
\\ · Didn’t realize that he was a rock in a weary Land, stone throughout the mountain,
  A rock of ages \\ \\
Don’t give up when the giants come into your life.
Rely on the might and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
