Introduction

Greetings…
We have been studying the theme of the “Beatitudes of the Bible.”
We find text today in .
Psalm 89:15 ESV
15 Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face,
The festal shout here can also be translated “joyful shout” or anything similar.
Why are we blessed if we know the “festal shout” or “joyful sound?”
Obviously happiness or blessings stem from the us having a reason for festal shouting or joyful shouting but not everyone who shouts joyfully does so with God’s approval.
Because “shouting joyfully” is a byproduct of…
What I mean by that is that “not all festal shouting” actually is based on righteousness.
In we find the Israelites about to battle the Philistines and when the ark of the covenant is brought to Israel they cry out a “festal shout” that frightens even the Philistines.
1 Samuel 4:5–7 ESV
5 As soon as the ark of the covenant of the Lord came into the camp, all Israel gave a mighty shout, so that the earth resounded. 6 And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shouting, they said, “What does this great shouting in the camp of the Hebrews mean?” And when they learned that the ark of the Lord had come to the camp, 7 the Philistines were afraid, for they said, “A god has come into the camp.” And they said, “Woe to us! For nothing like this has happened before.
1 Sam 4.5-
However, the Philistines leadership encouraged their men and they defeated Israel.
1 Samuel 4:9–10 ESV
9 Take courage, and be men, O Philistines, lest you become slaves to the Hebrews as they have been to you; be men and fight.” 10 So the Philistines fought, and Israel was defeated, and they fled, every man to his home. And there was a very great slaughter, for thirty thousand foot soldiers of Israel fell.
1 Sam 4.

Walking With The Lord

In His light.

We are to walk in the light of God.
Psalm 89:15 ESV
15 Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face,
1 John 1:6–7 ESV
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 1:5–7 ESV
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Pr
Proverbs 6:23 ESV
23 For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life,
We are also to walk…

On His path.

We are to walk on the straight and narrow path.
Acts 13:10 ESV
10 and said, “You son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and villainy, will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord?
Matthew 7:13–14 ESV
13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
We most assuredly must also walk…

With faith in Him.

We are to walk by faith not by sight.
2 Corinthians 5:7 ESV
7 for we walk by faith, not by sight.
John 20:29 ESV
29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
2 Corinthians 4:18 ESV
18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
Hebrews 11:6 ESV
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Summary

When we are in the light of God’s face and walking by faith on His path we will know the festal shout!
Why else are we blessed if we know the “festal shout” or “joyful sound” because “shouting joyfully is a byproduct of…

Worshiping In Spirit & Truth

Through His Word.

When we worship according to truth and “know we are righteous” there is no greater satisfaction.
This satisfaction can only be achieved by first setting our heart to truth.
Ezra 7:10 ESV
10 For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.
This satisfaction can only be achieved secondly by rightly handling the word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15 ESV
15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
This satisfaction can only be achieved thirdly by testing for truth.
Romans 12:2 ESV
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Worshiping according to the truth of God’s Word is satisfying but it must be accompanied by worshiping according to the spirit for it to reach it’s greatest heights.
Thus we must worship in spirit & truth…

With our heart.

When we worship according to spirit and “know we are righteous” there is no greater joy.
This joy can only be achieved if we love God with our all.
Luke 10:27 ESV
27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
Hebrews 11:6 ESV
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Revelation 2:4 ESV
4 But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.
2 Chronicles 25:2 ESV
2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, yet not with a whole heart.
John 14:15 ESV
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

Summary

When we worship according to the truth and according to the spirit there is no greater shout of joy that springs forth from us.
Job 8:21 ESV
21 He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with shouting.

Conclusion

Obviously happiness or blessings stem from the us having a reason for festal shouting or joyful shouting but not everyone who shouts joyfully does so with God’s approval.
Why is this significant, because we must remember our “festal shout” must be in line with God’s Word.
When we walk with the God of Abraham, David, and the church in Ramona and worship Him in spirit and truth there is a festal shout on our tongue and heart.
Psalm 89:15–18 ESV
15 Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face, 16 who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted. 17 For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted. 18 For our shield belongs to the Lord, our king to the Holy One of Israel.
Invitation
Isaiah 59:1–2 ESV
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
Philippians 2:6–7 ESV
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
Romans 10:17 ESV
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Hebrews 11:6 ESV
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Acts 17:30 ESV
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,
Matthew 10:32 NKJV
32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
2 Thessalonians 1:8 ESV
8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:1–4 ESV
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
Romans 6:3–5 ESV
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
1 John 1:7 ESV
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
