Genesis 10-11

Babylon: The system of rebellion toward God

• Genesis is the inception

• Israel is scattered and taken captive under Babylon (Daniel]

• Just before Christ returns (Revelation 17-18) the focus is on Babylon

The family of Nimrod—Genesis 10:6-12

• Noah, 10:1

o Shem (9:26)—shemetic people

o Japheth (9:27)—will have success

o Ham (9:25)—Canaanites

 Cush—Ethiopia

6 sons—one was Nimrod

 Mizraim—Egypt

 Phut—Libya

 Canaan (Canaan of the Old Testament—somewhat Palestinian today)

The significance of Nimrod

• He established a kingdom, 10:10

• He established a trend, 11:6

The description of Nimrod

• His name, 10:8

• His reputation, 10:8

• His leadership, 10:9

• His kingdom, 10:10-12

o Babylon—Iraq

o Assyria—Iran

Nimrod’s success

• Unity of language, 11:1

• Unity of geography, 11:2

• Unity of idea, 11:3-4
