God is our Refuge and Strength
Sunday, January 30, 2005

Call to Worship ....................................... Psalm 16:9-11

Minister:          Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay.

ALL:              You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

! Adoration and Praise

A Mighty Fortress (#92)

A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;

Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing:

For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;

His craft and power are great, and, armed with cruel hate,

On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing;

Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God’s own choosing:

Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He;

Lord Sabaoth, His Name, from age to age the same,

And He must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us,

We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us:

The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;

His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure,

One little word shall fell him.

That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth;

The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth:

Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;

The body they may kill: God’s truth abideth still,

His kingdom is forever.

Prayer of Adoration

! Confession of Faith

THE DISCIPLES’ PRAYER

Our Father in heaven,

            hallowed be Thy name.

                     Thy kingdom come,

                    Thy will be done,

                     on earth as it is in heaven.

                     Give us this day our daily bread,

                     and forgive us our debts,

                    as we also have forgiven our debtors.

                     And lead us not into temptation,

                    but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.  Amen!

! Confession of Sin and
the Promise of the Gospel

Corporate Confession........................................... (Read in Unison)

Lord forgive us that as your people we have not lived, spoken or thought in ways that consistently demonstrate your name to be holy.  In fact we have too often found that we live not unlike the world but like it.  Forgive us that we have been more concerned about establishing our happiness than the advancement of your kingdom upon this earth.  We have come to you as if you were a genie in a magic lamp praying for all those things that we want, that correspond to our wills, without submitting our wills first to yours.

Private Confession

Silently confess your sins to your Lord and Creator.

Promise of the Gospel...................................................... 1 John 1:9

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

! Thanksgiving and Intercession

Prayer of thanksgiving and intercession

Proclamation of the Word............ Matthew 6:9-10

9 Pray then like this:

      “     Our Father in heaven,

                    hallowed be your name.

10                     Your kingdom come,

                    your will be done,

               on earth as it is in heaven.

! Closing and Benediction

TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE…

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee.

Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise,

Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of Thy love.

Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee,

Swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing always, only, for my King.

Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from Thee,

Filled with messages from Thee.

Take my will, and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine.

Take my heart, it is Thine own; it shall be Thy royal throne,

It shall be Thy royal throne.

Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store.

Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee,

Ever, only, all for Thee.

Benediction.................................................................. Numbers 6:24-26

Minister:        The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

ALL:               THANKS BE TO GOD! AMEN!
