About Me

About Self
Thanks for having
When Pastor Jon asked me to teach at the retreat and when he said my topic is on Tink Humbly
I was like why did I get humility? I don’t know about you but I struggle with humility… . and ill share about that in a second..
had to really study the Bible carefully about humility and found that there is 5 stages in humility
That is my unofficial title.... The 5 stages of Humility
This message has challenged me and my challenge for you is through the 5 stages of humility to see how humble you are.
My challenge for you is to see how humble you are.
Whether you have made it past stage one, .....

STAGE 1. Realize

Realize who we really are and who God is:

Realize who I really am
An important part to humility is to realize who you really are:
That actually is the Biblical Greek definition of humility.
So its not just stage one of humility it is what humility is:
The Biblical Greek definition of humility literally means to realize who you are really.
This is important because often times people think humility means to think less of yourself!
That is far from the truth!
S. Craig Glickman (doctorate in Biblical studies, Philosophy, and in law) said “ humility is not thinking less of yourself than you are. Nor is humility always talking about your faults and short comings as compared to someone else's superiority and achievements. Humility is simply a recognition of the truth about ourselves; and then most often, a forgetfulness of self that allows genuine concern for others and a genuine worship of God.”
So humility is to think accurately of yourself.
I am so thankful Pastor Jon asked me to teach this because I have been reminded of who I really am
Today I am a pastor, a teacher, husband, dad, previously I was a director of a Bible college
but that is my titles and roles but not who I really am..
the problem is that because of what I do and have done I think that I am greater than who I am really am
Because Jon asked me to teach this I am blessed and humbled to remember who I really am.
Before God called me to do what I do now I was a person desiring to be loved.
Growing up I was often cast to the side… I never was strong enough for sports, I wasn’t smart enough for school and my second grade teacher told my mom pretty much that I suck and so my mom then homeschooled me for a few years. I wasn't cool enough for friends and was often made fun of. I never was a handsome guy and so I don’t remember anyone ever liking me..
The result was that I was just very insecure, I hated to have to speak in front of people and would ditch class. I battled depression, and always tried to make myself funnier or cooler just so that someone would like me…
but the problem was that if someone did want to be my friend or date me it wasn't really me who they liked but the person I was creating that I thought they would like.
So In HS I gained popularity, had many girlfriends, life was working out for me and so I was prideful, arrogant, selfish… but deep down I knew who I really was
(not the person I was projecting myself to be)
Remember when Jesus said its hard for rich man to enter the kingdom of God?
Mainly because his life is all together and has no need for God for anything… I think the same is true for the prideful people… it is hard to know God when you don’t think you need God.
After years and years of being someone I was not I got sick of myself and wanting to please people…
One day a pastor taught that God loves me for me for who I am… that He created me… Knows me, and Still loves me... It changed everything.
I found the freedom to quit being fake and let God accept me for who I really am.
It all started when I realized who God is:
Maybe like me you know your selfish, you know that your not good enough, you know that your arrogant/prideful maybe you have been trying to fake it till you make it…
Good news God never says to be fake…
God wants us to be real…
Maybe you are not like me… life is different for you....
However no matter who you are the best way to realize who you really are is to realize who God is
Well to full realize who we really are it helps to know who God is… which is the next part of Stage one … to realize.
So speed up to today.... I am married, have no fear of what people think of me, I have so much friends that me and my wife cant keep up with all of them and often say we need less. I went from not being able to graduate to when I went to college I pretty much got all A’s. I have so much joy I cant contain it.
So what happened how did I change so much?
Even though I am the same person I am so different … yet I feel like I am who I was always supposed to be.
It was that I realized while I can be fake and get what I want I cant fake myself.
When I was taught that God loves me for me. It changed everything.
I quit being fake and let God accept me for who I really am
Have you realized and accepted who you really are?
I would first say selfish, then
The second part is:
Realize who God is
He is all knowing, has no limit of power, nothing is impossible for Him. He loves to create especially in details.
He formed you in the womb, He gave you your personality, He knows the amount of hairs on your head, He knows who you are, He knows your thoughts, and emotions.
He is love, He is the source of joy, He gives and gives , He rejoices over your salvation
I have no reason to be prideful...
I am just His creation… made out of dust…
When you go to your cabin
In fact the root word humble comes from the root word humus which means earth, dirt, clay, or dust.
Like I said, and learn from stage 1… humility starts with realizing who you are (dust).....and who God is.
I shared about who I was with God today I am married, have no fear of what people think of me, I have so much friends that me and my wife cant keep up with all of them and often say we need less. I went from not being able to graduate to when I went to college I pretty much got all A’s. I have a job i love, and a son I love so much, I have so much joy I cant contain it.
So what happened how did I change so much?
Even though I am the same person I am so different … yet I feel like I am who I was always supposed to be.
When I was taught that God loves me for me. It changed everything.
A scholar named Fred Smith said “Humility is not just depreciation of ourselves it is appreciation of God”
When you go back to your cabin look above the closet, or the top of the door, or under your bed.
I quit being fake and let God accept me for who I really am
It was that
If you are a guy move the Cheetos out of the way and you will see pieces of dust.
Start to name each piece,
actually just name 1… then give it a future plan… get creative....
Have you realized and accepted who you really are?
then pretned that piece of dust rejected you and your plan, and said I like to play fortnite more than spend time with you, I would rather snapchat other pieces of dust then speak to you, I would rather compare myself to other dust on instagram then to look to you.
That is crazy huh?
That is exactly what you do to God.
Samuel Brendle who was a longtime revered leader of the Salvation army was introduced as “The Great Dr. Brengle” Later he wrote in his journal “If I appear great in their eyes, the Lord is most graciously helping me to see how absolutely nothing I am without Him, and helping me to keep little in my own eyes. He does use me. But I am so concerned that He uses me and that it is not of me the work is done. The axe cannot boast of the trees it has cut down. It could do nothing but for the woodsman. He made it, he sharpened it, and he used it. The moment he throws it aside, it becomes only old iron. O that I may never lose sight of this.”*
This is why humility is important… because the second we are not humble … we will begin to drift away from God and make Him less big.. and ourselves bigger.
Heres the test of stage 1: How big is your God in your heart? 2. How big or small are you?
Have you realized who you really are?
You and me both know that we can be fake and get what you want.....but no one cant fake themselves or God
Good news God never says to be fake…
Let me just say there is no freedom in fakeness!
God wants us to be real…
However no matter who you are the best way to realize who you really are is to realize who God is
Once I realized that God the creator, knows me, and still loves me … it changed everything
So when we realize who we are especially when we realize who God is.... we naturally do stage 2 of humility:

STAGE 2: Bow Down.

The most common word for worship in the NT is “proskyneo” - it does not mean to sing it means to bow down.
Bowing down in the Bible is now just referring to the physical action of bowing down but the heart behind it.
It is saying I surrender my life to you.
It is saying I give up what I have been doing… So here I am God.
Andrew Murray described this stage by saying:
Near the entrance to a large hospital in the eastern United States there is a white marble statue of Christ. On its base are engraved the words, “Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” One day a cynical man walked around the statue, viewing it disapprovingly from every angle. A small girl stood and watched him for a time and then she said, “Oh, sir, you cannot see Him that way. You must get very close and fall upon your knees and look up.”

Many people like the man disapprove of the things Jesus has done without understanding.
They look at their troubles, challenges, and fears… and disapprove of God.
Like Pharaoh they look at what God is doing and instead of surrendering they harden their heart God.
Want to know what God says to people like Pharaoh?
Exodus 10:3 NKJV
3 So Moses and Aaron came in to Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
Maybe for some of you God is asking you this question: How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me?
I hurt for these people because if only they would go to God with their troubles, challenges, and fears they would experience a better outcome then anger, frustration, sadness, depression, and anxiety.
But challenging Jesus on
It takes faith like a child to say I surrender God.. here I am. I trust you with my life!
Thats why Jesus said in:
Matthew 18:4 NKJV
4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Bowing down is a great moment with God because you take your plans, your anxieties, your problems, your challenges, your sin, your future, your goals, and make them small and make God bigger.
Have you done that?
I have faced some extremely difficult times last year....
I am first to say that when you have a bigger God your problems get smaller.
But also when you have a bigger God your human sized goals become God sized goals.
Author and Theologian Andrew Murray described this stage so well when he said,
“Humility is perfect quietness of heart. It is for me to have no trouble; never to be fretted or vexed or irritated or sore or disappointed. It is to expect nothing, to wonder at nothing that is done to me, to feel nothing done against me. It is to be at rest when nobody praises me and when I am blamed or despised. It is to have a blessed home in the Lord where I can go in and shut the door and kneel to my Father in secret and be at peace as in a deep sea of calmness when all around is trouble. It is the fruit of the Lord Jesus Christ’s redemptive work on Calvary’s cross, manifested in those of His own who are definitely subject to the Holy Spirit.”
Have you done that? Have you bowed before God, surrendered your whole life to God?
If not, why not? What in your life is bigger than God?
One day every knee will bow before God.
Isaiah 2:17 NKJV
17 The loftiness of man shall be bowed down, And the haughtiness of men shall be brought low; The Lord alone will be exalted in that day,
Isaiah
Better to be humble today than to be humbled judgement day.
The Holiest is not the preacher, or the one who sings the loudest, its not the highest praising hand, it is the one who is humble.

STAGE 3: God’s Power in the Humble

The first two stage involve us giving up our power.
Whether i
This one involves us receiving God’s power.
Isaiah 59:9–11 NKJV
9 Therefore justice is far from us, Nor does righteousness overtake us; We look for light, but there is darkness! For brightness, but we walk in blackness! 10 We grope for the wall like the blind, And we grope as if we had no eyes; We stumble at noonday as at twilight; We are as dead men in desolate places. 11 We all growl like bears, And moan sadly like doves; We look for justice, but there is none; For salvation, but it is far from us.
Isaiah
says
You know I gave my life to the Lord but how did I change
Isaiah 57:15 NKJV
15 For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
When you are Humus (humble/clay) you are usable for the Potters hands:
Isaiah 64:8 NKJV
8 But now, O Lord, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.
1 Peter 5:6 NKJV
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,
Author and Scholar Andrew Murray said “Humility is like a bag where God puts the riches of His grace.
Any person can counterfeit hope, love, faith, and many other graces, but it is very difficult to counterfeit humility.
I think of Moses called the most humble man on Earth in (Numbers 12:3)
He spent 40 years thinking he was somebody; then he spent 40 year in the dessert realizing he was a nobody; then finally he spent the last 40 years of his life learning what God can do with a nobody.
Before being used Moses had to learn that true and real power comes from God.
Just one verse people:
it is realizing that the true and real power comes from God.
Hopefully it wont take you 40 years to realize this.
1 Peter 5:6 NKJV
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,
to humble yourself under God’s mighty hand is to realize who you really are compared to him… and when you do God
It does he
I remember when God was placing in my heart to be a desire to be a pastor that I would tell God “All these pastors are so funny, great, and have these huge personailities and they only seem to reach out to the the other great, and cool people. but God if you make me a pastor ill be a pastor for the misunderstood, introverts, rejects, and hurting.
Pride, arrogance, selfishness, self-confidence gives no room for God… yes it gives you power but its power you have given to yourself.
When we realize we have nothing to be prideful or self confident about it gives room for God to build us up.
I remember when God was placing in my heart to be a desire to be a pastor that I would tell God “All these pastors are so funny, great, and have these huge personailities and they only seem to reach out to the
Look you may know
This is why God says in
James 4:6 NKJV
6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
God uses the humble:
The prideful lose out because they are running off their own power they have created for themselves.
Why does does God use people like me? because all I rely on is God… I dont have confidence, or a personality to rely on.
2 Corinthians 12:9–10 NLT
9 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. 10 That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
maybe share Share the Bible promises to those that are humble
So God uses the humble:
God used the socially unimportant fishermen
God used the hated tax collector
God used a shepherd boy to become king
God used a man with speech problems to lead all of Israel
God used barren woman to mother a lineage to Jesus
God used woman that were culturally of no value to give testimony of Jesus resurrection.
God used an ugly man, with a whiny voice, that could barely see to write much of the NT.
God used the least important brother to lead his family to safety.
God used a young man to lead the elders to God
So what am i saying?
It is possible to be too big for God to use you but never too small for God to use you.
Humility makes us usable for God like we read in
Luke 1:37 NKJV
37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”
This is why someone like me that was once afraid of people and public speaking can stand up hear and talk.
The reason why the Bible says He gives grace to the humble is because there is nothing impossible.
There is no end or inabilities with grace...
So when God gives grace to the humble it means
God can do anything with a humble person.
Whether it is wisdom (

About Humility for Retreat

This is why humility is the last message of the retreat:
Isnt the last message supposed to be like a pump up, like you can do it, once you get off this mountain don’t let the enemy ruin what God did up here....
Some of you have asked Jesus to forgive you and you have dedicated or rededicated your life to Jesus … so today we are talking about humility because .....
Some
This is how to be used by God.
In fact this would be my second title for this message- How to be used by God.
Around 390 AD a theologian that is a foundation to understanding what ancient church people believed, Augustine said “ Should you ask me: What is the first thing in being a Christian? I should reply: the first, second, and third thing is humility.
I used to think that all God wants to give me, God’s gifts, and promises were like on shelves and the more i grew in Christian character and holiness the more of God’s blessings, and rewards I would receive.
I now find that God’s gifts and promises are one beneath the other, and that the lower I go and the less I become the greater God’s gifts become.
Famous Pastor D.l. Moody said “God has 2 thrones, one in the highest heavens, the other in the lowliest heart.
As we read earlier God gives gifts/grace and more to the humble.
Do you want to grow spiritually? Humility is the answer
Many grow up in the church but few grow in Christ.
Growing in Christ starts with humility.
Many know the hymns and dont really know Him.
But what does it mean to be Humble? How can I be humble?
.** maybe having something about humility is going low, or sacrificial, .....
But what does it mean to be Humble?
Turn Bibles to we will be looking at verses 2-8
Turn Bibles to we will be looking at verses 2-8
In our section of scripture today we will learn the Actions of humble
Now hear i
In verses 2-5 - Actions of humility
In Verses 6-8 - Jesus example of humility
because
In we read that the greatest is the one that goes the lowest.
Who came the lowest? Jesus
So Jesus is the most humble… lets look at his example in verses 6-8
Before we can look at the actions of the humble you have to know there is more to humility then actions.
The next 2 stages are the actions God’s power brings

Jesus example of humility

Who came the lowest? Jesus

(maybe want to divide the text up, somewhere in the dumpster I have somethings that may help diviivd)

So Jesus is the most humble… lets look at his example in verses 6-8
Philippians 2:6–8 NKJV
6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
Philippians 2:3–8 NKJV
3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

From here we learn how Jesus was humble in 4 ways:

1. No reputation
This is amazing because Jesus has all power and authroity
So He can do anything
However Jesus still humbles Himself
Now we do not have all power and authority… yet we
Maybe you have some power, and some authority
example:
Teaching us that humility
“ Humility is not denying the power you have.
2. Slave
Teaching us that humility
3. Like man
Teaching us that humility
4. Gave up his life for man on a cross
Teaching us that humility
We take pride in birth and rank, but it’s said of Jesus, He was a carpenter’s son.
• We take pride in possessions, but it’s said of Jesus, “The Son of man hath no place to lay His head.”
• We take pride in our respectability, but it’s said of Jesus, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”
• We take pride in our personal appearance, but it’s said of Jesus, “He hath no form nor comeliness.”
• We take pride in our reputation, but it’s said of Jesus, “Behold a man gluttonous and a winebibber.”
• We take pride in our friendships, but it’s said of Jesus, “He was a friend of publicans and sinners.”
• We take pride in our independence, but Jesus gave himself to people and had the woman at the well draw water for him.
• We take pride in our degrees and learning, but Jesus never went to college and it’s said of Him, “How knows this man letters having never learned to read?”
• We take pride in our position, but Jesus said, “I am among you as one who serves.”
• We take pride in our success, but it’s said of Jesus, “His own did not receive Him or believe on Him. He was despised and rejected.”
• We take pride in our self-reliance, but it’s said of Jesus, “He went down to Nazareth and was subject to His parents.”
• We take pride in our abilities, but Jesus said, “I can of mine own self do nothing.”
• We take pride in our self-will, but Jesus said, “I seek not my own will but the Father’s.” And “If thou be willing, remove this cup from me, nevertheless not my will but thine be done.”
• We take pride in our intellect, but Jesus said, “As the Father has taught me, I speak these things.”
• We take pride in our resentment and justifiable pride, but Jesus said, “Father, forgive them.”
• We take pride in our holiness, but it’s said of Jesus, “He receiveth sinners and eateth with them.”
• We take pride in the fact we’re the righteousness of God, but it’s said of Jesus, “He who knew no sin became sin on our behalf in order that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”*

STAGE 4 - General Actions of Humility

Philippians 2:2–5 NKJV
2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,

Phil 2

In this section not only are we commanded to be humble but we learn 4 actions of humility starting in verse 3:

We are to be like minded in humility.
its starts individually
Meaning we have surrendered
This means before going to church you are humble and not just after the message.
Humility is something we are to be like minded in
It means the goal of the church is to be humble people
The problem is we are prideful people
See if we are not going to church humble then church becomes more about us then Christ.
It becomes more about our need and wants then God’s Will.
When that happens church
When that happens fun is worshipped, and entertainment is expected.
and it becomes
Then the church loses its passion, priorities, and purpose.
That is why the whole church is to be humble.
That is why Paul here tells us that each Christian is act this way
2. Have same Love
Humility and love go hand in hand.
I have a question:
What is the opposite of love?
Selfishness
1 Corinthians 13:4–8 NKJV
4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.
:
Teaching us that Love is a humble action.
What is love??? humilit?
1. Nothing done through selfish ambition
Also be translated se
Selfish ambition (eritheia) can also be translated personal success
So let nothing be done for personal success.
That is what the world is all about:
Insta (how many follwers) , life coaches,
God says dont’ try or even seek to make yourself great, or important.
Dont try to be important,
Thats impossible to do if you’re prideful.
Dont try to
Let me just say there is so much freedom in this.
Explain:
The humble person does not take offense or fight back. He turns the other cheek to the one who hits him. And yet humility is not cowardice, for humility requires high courage. Humility makes you willing to take a lower place than you deserve, to keep quiet about your merits, to bear slights, insults, and false accusations for a higher purpose. Jesus displayed humility for “when He was reviled, [He] did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten.”
2. Nothing done in conceit
The Greek Word used for conceit comes from the word Doxia (glory)
So dont try to get glory
Don’t seek to get credit or recognition.
Practically the most changed person from this retreat is the one who stays back to clean the cabin and seeking attention, compliments, or acknowledgment, simply because He is doing it for God, to make Himself lower, and to serve and love others.
3. In lowliness of mind esteem others better than self
lowliness of mind - is an interesting translation of the Greek word “tapeino-phro-soonay
It is two Greek words put together:
tapeinos - humility, & phroneo - to set ones mine on,
So it means to set your mind humbly
You can see where they translated it lowliness of mind
So the retreat theme verse is but check out verse 3
Romans 12:3 NLT
3 Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.
However humility by definition does not mean that.
the literal Greek definition of humility is valuing or assessing oneself appropriately.
would argue that the best translation is not “in lowliness of mind”
But we are to do more than have a humble mind ....
We are to think of people the way our prideful selves want to be thought of
Our prideful selves want people to think we are amazing, fun, smart, funny, cool.
We naturally want people to think were smart, funny, whatever....
So we are to regard others this way...
Well we
Lets be honest we are all judgmental of people...
We compare ourselves to others
And we get judgmental thoughts...
So we get these thoughts like “that person
This is saying to do the opposite… to think good of people…
Not tearing them down in our heads to to make ourselves better.
Andrew Murray also said: The humble man feels no jealousy or envy. He can praise God when others are preferred and blessed before him. He can bear to hear others praised while he is forgotten because … he has received the spirit of Jesus, who pleased not Himself, and who sought not His own honor.
If that seems hard this next and last one takes it one step further.
the literal Greek definition of humility is valuing or assessing oneself appropriately.
would argue that the best translation is not “in lowliness of mind”
1 to not to think low of yourself but to think rightfully or truthfully of yourself.
2. forgetfulness of self for genuine concern for others.
shared about my life and
Even Einstein knew this
“Einstein said, a hundred times a day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labors of other men, living and dead...”.
Teaching us that
So he accredited his success to other people:
4 . Look out for the interests of others
So now dont just think good of them… do good to them
Dont just judge them
But also give them what they want
We know people like the back of the bus… let them have it.
We know people
“A famous conductor was once asked which instrument he considered the most difficult to play. His reply was: “Second fiddle”.
Sammy Morris, a devoted Christian from Africa, came to America to go to school. Even though his life was not easy, his difficulties never deterred him. Most likely it is because he had learned genuine humility. One incident that showed this occurred when he arrived at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. He was asked by the school’s president what room he wanted. Sammy replied, “If there is a room nobody wants, give it to me.” Later the president commented, “I turned away, for my eyes were full of tears. I was asking myself whether I was willing to take what nobody else wanted.”
Ill add to this story by saying will you
Humility lets other have the best possession or position
Summary
So based off the basic actions actions of humility are:
Not seeking personal success
Not trying to get credit, or recognition
Not judgmental

Basically: These actions of Humility is unconscious self-forgetfulness.
Before we look at these verse.s..
Those were basic humility actions.... next thing is advanced humility:
In we read that the greatest is the one that goes the lowest.
Who came the lowest? Jesus
Jesus is the most humble…
His actions
From him we will learn of the most advanced actions of humility

STAGE 5: Advanced Humility Exemplified by Jesus

Jesus’ Actions of humility

Philippians 2:6–8 NKJV
6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

From here we learn how Jesus was humble in 4 ways:

1. No reputation
Meaning that Jesus did not try to make a name for Himself....
Andrew Murray also said: The humble man feels no jealousy or envy. He can praise God when others are preferred and blessed before him. He can bear to hear others praised while he is forgotten because … he has received the spirit of Jesus, who pleased not Himself, and who sought not His own honor.
Intresting because now His name is above every other name.
So He can do anything
However Jesus still humbles Himself
Now we do not have all power and authority… yet we
Maybe you have some power, and some authority
example:
Teaching us that advanced humility declines recognition, and status....
A person that does their best but never for the glory
That does the right thing just because it is the right thing.
2. Slave
Teaching us that humility chooses to serve other people rather then himself
This means you treat others the way you want to be treated.
it
Jesus said in
Matthew 23:11 NKJV
11 But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.
Humility serves other people.
it gives others what you want
it takes what no one else wants.
It makes sure other people are comfortable even if it means you wont be.
3. Like man
Teaching us that humility will choose the lower status
Jesus talked about this in
Luke 14:7–11 NKJV
7 So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the best places, saying to them: 8 “When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the best place, lest one more honorable than you be invited by him; 9 and he who invited you and him come and say to you, ‘Give place to this man,’ and then you begin with shame to take the lowest place. 10 But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you. 11 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
So we are to
Martin Luther is credited with the following interesting story: Two mountain goats met each other on a narrow ledge just wide enough for one of the animals. On the left was a sheer cliff, and on the right a deep lake. The two face each other. What should they do? They could not back up—that would be too dangerous; they could not turn around, because the ledge was too narrow. Now if the goats had no more sense than some people, they would meet head-on and start butting each other till they fell into the lake below. Luther said that goats have better sense than this. One lay down on the trail and let the other literally walk over him—and both were safe.
4. Gave up his life for man on a cross
There is no humble action greater than this.
It is giving up your life for someone else.
Now this doesn't necessarily mean dieing for someone it may mean
to take the pain, heart ache, and troubles so that others dont have to,
It is taking the pain, heart ache, and troubles so that others dont have to,

Conclusion

Humility is when you realize who you really are… and bow down/surrender to God and when that happens you will:
Not seek personal success
Not trying to get credit, or recognition
Not judgmental
Lets other have the best possession or position.
5. Decline high status
6. Serves others
7. Choose the lower status
8. Be willing to suffer so that someone else doesn't have to
Question are you humble?
Are you usable in the hands of God? To be able to do the impossible?
The point of all this:
God uses broken people for broken people
Nobel Prize recipient and ex president of YMCA John Mott said “Let it be repeated, there are two views of ones life. One is that a man’s life is his own, to do with as he or she pleases; the other that it belongs to another and .. that the other to whom it belongs is Christ Himself.
