I have a friend I grew up with who now lives in Rapid City, South Dakota. I couldn’t understand why of all places, he would move to South Dakota. Most of us only heard of it because it was on the map. Many of us have never been there or even thought of going there. I thought the onely thing in South Dakota was buffalos and bison. A 2010 census said that Rapid City had a 1.1 percent African-American population. 80.4% white, 12.4% Native American population.
To make matters worse, he had just gotten released from the department of corrections. He had no biological family there. He had no friends from home there and no certainty of a job or future there, looking on the surface. However, God had a plan for him. He found his wife there. They have a family there. He has a job and home there. All because he trusted God in the face of uncertainty.
As we continue our series on faith in action, we see a biblical character by the name of Abraham who had a similar experience. As we look at the heroes of the past, who served as examples, let’s take a closer look at two foundational principles that Abraham trusted in the face of uncertainty.
Faithful people trust God even when they are uncertain about where God is sending them.

Trust In God’s Word

Abraham obeyed God’s Word in the face of uncertainty.
He obeyed God’s summons for this urgent task.
God commanded Abraham to go, to change his location.
Go from your homeland, the place you were born.
Go from your relatives, blood and marriage.
Go from your father’s house, living quarters.
He obeyed God’s command to leave and go to a place promised to him.
So, Abram went as the Lord told Him.
Lot went with him.
He was 75 years old he departed Haran.
When God tells you go, you have to be willing to leave everything and everybody.
You have to obey Him.
You have to go, and it doesn’t matter how old you are.

Trust In God’s Promises

Abraham went out uncertain of where God was sending him, but with trust in His promises.
He departed home not understanding where he was going.
But He understood who was showing him and what was in store.
1 “to a land I will show you.
I will make you a great nation.
That is remarkable, out of the ordinary.
I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
Give you divine favor, often implying a positive disposition or kind actions toward recipient.
God will make his reputation be of major significance or importance, perhaps sometimes implying greatness of size as well. He will give you high status.
I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you, I will curse.
He will give divine favor to those who show you favor.
He will curse (invoke divine harm or evil upon someone or something) on those who dishonor (invoke harm or evil upon someone) you.
Can you trust God in the face of uncertainty?
Can you trust Him you don’t know where he is sending you?
Can you trust Him when He ask you to leave the comfort of family, friends and possessions?
Are you willing to trust in His promises?
Do you believe that he can make your remarkable in your ministry or on your job?
Do you believe He is able to give you favor and make you a person of importance? And give you a great reputation?
Do you believe He is able to show your friend favor and your enemies harm on your behalf.
One Friday, Jesus in the face of uncertainty, declared Father, not my will, but your will be done.
He trusted God, that on Sunday morning, that third day, that God would raise Him from the grave.
Won’t He do it? Didn’t He do it? Early Sunday God raised Him from the grave.
So next time your faced with uncertainty, trust God’s Word.
Next time your face with uncertainty, trust in the promise of God.
And He will deliver, yes He will!
