How to waste your inheritance

The Parable ot the Two Sons
One son asked to have full control over his inheritance
Luke 15:11–13 NKJV
11 Then He said: “A certain man had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood. 13 And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.
Luke 15.11-1
The other son was obedient and serving, but did not realize he has access to his inheritance
Luke 15:29–30 NKJV
29 So he answered and said to his father, ‘Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends. 30 But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.’
Both sons were wasting their inheritance
the first, literally
the second, indirectly
God wants His children to enjoy their inheritance
2 Peter 1:2–4 NKJV
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
God’s power has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness
we are given great and precious promises that says we can partake of the divine nature right now - in this life
God has made available the powers of the age to come to His people today.
Hebrews 6:4–5 NKJV
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
Hebrews 6.4-5
taste the heavenly gift
partake of the Holy Spirit
Taste the good word of God and the powers of the age to come
NOTE: our inheritance is the glorious life with Christ
incorruptible (imperishable)
unefiled
unfading

How to Enjoy Your Inheritance

Stay with your Heavenly Father
the prodigal son severed his connection with his father and tried to do things his way
soon he lost everything and began to eat with the pigs
NOTE: when you stay (abide)
your life remains connected to God’s unfathomable resources
your inheritance is not used up
you discover God’s will
Learn to Ask
the second son stayed, BUT did not ask
John 15:7–8 NKJV
7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
John 15:7 NKJV
7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
John 15.
NOTE: WHEN YOU ASK...
When you ask, you exercise your right as a child of God
Learn to Speak Out
It is one thing to ask God, it is another thing to declare something authoritatively
Mark 11:23–24 NKJV
23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
