Jesus performs miracle of healing of the blind man. This miracle is teaching on two levels. There is the obvious display of HIs power to heal in the physical. But, deeper there is His power to heal in the spiritual. We see ourselves in this blind man for blindness is a univeral condition. Anyone who does not know the savior is blind. Though we have physical sight, a life apart from Christ is still one of blindness. It is only when Jesus applies his healing salve to this man's eyes that he is able to see. Blindness can only be cured by the unique touch of Jesus. But even though Jesus touches him to heal him, the initial touch is not sufficient to completely restore his sight. This is not a deficiency in Jesus, but rather a display of his omniscience and sovereignty. Omniscience in his knowing of the deficientt faith of the blind man. Along with his knowledge there is patience for he does not leave the man in frustration or disappointment for not having enough faith to be healed after only one touch. Sovereignty in his methodology of healing. This is the only two-stage healing miracle. It was his preference to touch this man twice. Perhaps in this healing miracle Jesus is showing us that our healing is a treatment plan tailored uniquely for us. He will allow us to experience limited sight for a season, but desires total restoration. He does not leave this man until his healing is complete.
