Title - Our distinctive Beliefs
Series - Discipleship Class 101
Text - 1 Timothy 3.15; 1 Timothy 4.16
1 Timothy 3:15 NKJV
15 but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
1 Timothy 4:16 NKJV
16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

The Importance of Doctrine

It sets free
Romans 6:17–18 NKJV
17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
It saves
1 Timothy 4:16 NKJV
16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
It identifies the believer
2 John 9–11 NKJV
9 Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; 11 for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.
It is part of the Church’s life
Acts 2:42 NKJV
42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
It gives authority
Mark 1:27 NKJV
27 Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”

Distinctive beliefs are beliefs that we believe to be true and scriptural, which may not be received by other denominations or churches.
As believers of the Message, we ave come out from

Our Distinctive Beliefs

Our Distinctive Beliefs about God

The most common beliefs are:
God is three persons
God is One in that the Son is also the Father

What we believe: God is not three, but One Person

God is One, eternally indivisible.
Deuteronomy 6.4
Mark 12.29-30
Revelation 4.1-2
Revelation 3.21

Our Distinctive Beliefs about Jesus Christ

Common beliefs:
Jesus Christ is the second person in the Godhead
Jesus Christ is not God but merely human

What we believe: Jesus Christ is God manifested in the flesh.

The Word, the Son of God, is not a second person, but the visible part of the same God.
John 1.1-2
Hebrews 1.5
Jesus was the human form of the Word, with a human personality, from birth.
John 1.14
Hebrews 1.5-6
Jesus Christ was the full manifestation of God from the time of His baptism onward.
Colossians 1.15
Colossians 1.19
Colossians 2.9

Our Distinctive Beliefs about God’s Plan of Redemption

Common beliefs:
Jesus redeemed the whole humanity

What we believe: God’s plan of redemption covers only the elect, or those who were chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world.

The plan of redemption was determined before the foundation of the world.
Ephesians 1.4-6
1 Peter 1.1-2
The plan of redemption covers only the elect.

1 Peter 1.18-19
Revelation 5.2-10
Revelation 10.1-3
Romans 8.23

Our Distinctive Beliefs about the Fall of Man

Common beliefs:
the fall of man was caused by the eating of a natural fruit

What we believe: The fall of man happened when Eve believed the serpent’s lies and gave her body for the serpent to plant its seed.

The serpent went into Eve and produced a child of the wicked one.
Genesis 3.14-15
1 John 3.12
Genesis 3.16
2 Corinthians 11.2-3

Our Distinctive Beliefs about Salvation

Common beliefs:
A person is saved as soon as he or she believes in Jesus.
Salvation cannot be known and guaranteed until one is either dead or received in heaven at Christ’s return.

What we believe: Salvation is realized when a person repents of his/her sins, believes in the saving work of Christ, and is subsequently justified, sanctified and sealed with the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Justification is when God declares a sinner righteous based on his/her faith in the work of Christ on the cross.
Sanctification is when God applies the power of the blood in the believer’s life, thus removing the guilt of sin and giving the person both the desire and the means to live a life set apart for God.
Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the seal, the guarantee, that the person’s faith is accepted by God and his/her salvation is secured.
Ephesians 1.13-14
2 Corinthians 5.4-5

Our Distinctive Beliefs about the Church

Common beliefs:
The church is composed of believers from most Christian denominations.
The church is composed of the vigilant, the suffering, and the triumphant believers. (RCC)

Acts 2.47
Revelation 1-3

Our Distinctive Beliefs about the Last Days

What we believe: The last days began with the earthly ministry of Christ and will continue to the end of the age.

What we believe: The Rapture will happen before the the tribulation days and is preceded by three successive events, the shout, the voice of archangel and the last trumpet.
