Remember, Repent, Do
revelation 2:1-7:
“To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: ‘The words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands.
“ ‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name’s sake, and you have not grown weary. But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. Yet this you have: you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.’
The church at Ephesus was founded by Paul but, John had been a pastor there for a time and had a special interest in this church. Possibly that is why Jesus begins with this church.

For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. If Christ can empty himself, humble himself, and be obedient, we can empty ourselves, humble ourselves and be obedient.
As we empty ourselves, He, God, Christ, will fill us.
Why does He do this?
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,
Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Who were the Nicolaitans?

Opening Up Revelation The Letter to the Church of Ephesus (2:1–7)
The Nicolaitans were a sect that taught that one could be a Christian and not strive to live a holy life.
The Nicolaitans appeared to conform to this Roman culture, and seemed to encourage Christians in Ephesus to do the same. They were known for their eating of idol meat and sexual promiscuity.
Basically, they believed that you could be Christian without transformation.
Many today, unfortunately, might identify with this viewpoint.
But, there is something bigger we miss.

Despite all their problems, Christ still loves them.
Despite all their problems, Christ still wants to help them grow.
Despite all their problems, Christ is still just an open door away.
In Him we can:

Opening Up Revelation The Letter to the Church of Laodicea (3:14–22)
Each of the last four letters ends in the same way as the three that precede them, namely, with Christ’s appeal to individuals within each church to hear ‘what the Spirit says’ (2:29; 3:6, 13, 22). Did ‘that woman Jezebel’ have a following in the church of Thyatira? If each individual member would take a stand against her, she would soon realize that her following had vanished. Was Sardis alive in name only? Let each individual believer experience true spiritual vitality and the whole church would as well. Was the church in Philadelphia strong and faithful? She could remain so only as her individual members were strong and faithful. Even the dreadful church at Laodicea would be transformed if the individual members stopped shutting Christ out and opened the door to him (3:20).
He desires each church and believer be remarkable.
Last week we saw that we need to hot or cold, today, we saw that we need to remember, repent and do.
Both weeks tell us that we need to empty ourselves and be filled by Christ.
