*Funeral Service for Shirley Mondrage*
*September 26th, 2008*
*Proverbs 31:10-31*
*Job 19:25-27*
* *
*            At a time like this, we are certain that no one has ever experienced the pain and helplessness we feel.
While it is true that no two people grieve in the same way, we can at least find some comfort in the knowledge that others have lost loved ones and can sympathize with us.
One such person was the patriarch Job.*
*            It can be said of Job that he had it all.
Job had ten children, houses and lands, fields of cattle, servants and enormous wealth.
And then, in one day, he lost it all!
Not long after the deaths of his children, Job’s health failed him as well.
In the midst of his suffering, Job made a declaration of great faith and hope.*
* *
*I.
Take a Look At Job’s Declaration*
* *
*A.    “I know that my Redeemer lives”*
*1.
There is a personal relationship between the two*
*2.
There is no doubt*
*B.
Who is his Redeemer?*
*1.
The One that redeems or ransoms*
*2.
He is the Lord God and He is alive today*
*C.
Shirley made the same declaration*
*1.
She recognized that she needed redemption*
*2.
She asked Jesus into her heart and gave Him her life*
*3.
Were she here today, she would encourage everyone present to do as she did*
*D.
A second statement, “After my skin is destroyed….”*
*1.
He knew that his body was only a temporary residence*
*2.
Shirley knew this as well and made arrangements to have her body interred*
*E.
A third statement, “In my flesh I shall see God….”
*1.
Death is not annihilation *
*2.
Every child of God receives a new body, one that will not tire or grow old*
*3.
What Shirley formerly believed by faith, she now sees face to face*
* *
*Bodies grow tired, wear out, and die.
Shirley and her body are not one and the same.
Shirley is not gone; she has simply traveled to a far country where she received a new and perfect body.
She inhabits a land where there is no sickness or sorrow - a place of unspeakable beauty and peace - a place of glad reunion and endless delight.
As much as Shirley loves each of you, she would not return even if it were possible.
The really good news is that each of us can join her there – by faith in Christ Jesus.*
*Until then, visit with her in memories of blessed moments past.
Recall birthdays, anniversaries, vacations, Thanksgiving dinners and Christmases around the tree.
And don’t forget all the hugs and kisses and those tender moments that families share.*
* *
*/Backward, turn backward, O time in your flight,/*
*/Make me a child again just for tonight!/*
*/Mother, come back from the echoless shore,/*
*/Take me again to your heart as of yore;/*
*/Kiss from my forehead the furrows of care,/*
*/Smooth the few silver threads out of my hair./*
*/Over my slumbers your loving watch keep;/*
*/Rock me to sleep mother, rock me to sleep./
