It’s Time

This Series is designed to get us moving… in our Spiritual Journey. Many o fus know we need to get moving and this year we want to help you get moving.
God wants us to know him better.
It doesn’t matter where we are in our journey, we ALL can know him better. If you will take the time to read, study, meditate, and pray, you will know him better. He will speak to you.
God wants you and I to find freedom.
We all need freedom in our lives. Some are stuck in struggles with self image… negative self talk… depression… anger … foul language… addictions (smoking, sugar, alcohol, drugs)
God wants you to find purpose
God has created each of us with a purpose. We want you to discover that purpose. He has put you in the jobs where you are for a reason. … families for a reason…
God wants you to make a difference
Make a difference in our lives… families… work… dance team… playground…
Here is what I know…

“If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” Henry Ford

Something has to change. We need to push the peddle down and get going.
Matthew 3:2 NLT
2 “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.”
Repent means to change your mind and change your direction. You should change it towards a different kingdom… KOH is near… it’s not far away and all you have to do is repent…
Too many people are not living lives of Joy. People live lives of sadness and depression… frustration and anger… misery…
God has promised you joy… but…
Q - has that sadness helped you? has anger helped you? has fear helped you?
You can have joy in horrible circumstances …

Joy Comes...

Nehemiah 8:10 NLT
10 And Nehemiah continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!”
God is saying that it’s time for the sadness to be over ...
In the middle of your worst days there is a joy you can have. The day we live in … it’s easy for us to lose our joy.
Friday I walked out of the jail with Pastor Kathy and Fred, and some moron had parked a parish vehicle 2 inches from my car so there was no way I could get into the car. There was plenty of room for him to have parked away from my car, but he parked it next to mine.
I went from happy after preaching in the jail to wanting to slice some tires and key the paint job… I didn’t do that, but it took me a minute to get over it.
Let’s look at God’s plan to give us joy.

Joy comes from knowing God has a plan for my life.

Joy comes from knowing why God made you and what he wants you to do…
If you don’t know how and why God made you along with what he wants you to do, you will never have joy. When you know why God made you, you can have joy.
Jesus on his worst day… Heb 12 for the joy set before him he went to the cross.
Hebrews 12:2 NIV
2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Psalm 16:5–11 NIV
5 Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. 6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. 7 I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. 8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, 10 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay. 11 You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Joy is the settled assurance that God is in control of all of the details of my life Kay Warren

Joy comes when we are certain that God will work things out.

Not only do you have a plan, but when the plan gets interrupted, you know that God is going to work it out.
Hindsight is 2020. Talk to people who have gone through it and come out of the other side… they know that God has worked it out.
1 Peter 1:8 NIV
8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,
African King and his friend who always hunted. Friend would always say this is good… lost his thumb… this is good the cannibals let him go. this is good … why.... because if you had not put me in prison I would have been with you.
Joy is the quiet confidence that ultimately everything is going to be alright. Kay Warren
Ya’ll need some joy in your life… I got that joy joy joy down in my heart...

Joy comes when I choose Joy

Joy doesn't’ find you, you have to find it.
Philippians 4:4 NIV
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
Dion’t be the person who walks around critical of everything… choose joy.
Winnie the Pooh - Tiger… he changes everything when he arrives on the scene. Tiger, do you want to pick apples? Sure, thats what Tigers do best… ice skate… sure…
Be the person that when you arrive it changes the atmosphere around you to one of joy…
Joy is the determined choice to praise God in all things. Kay Warren

It’s time to choose Joy

Deuteronomy 30:11–19 The Message
11 This commandment that I’m commanding you today isn’t too much for you, it’s not out of your reach. 12 It’s not on a high mountain—you don’t have to get mountaineers to climb the peak and bring it down to your level and explain it before you can live it. 13 And it’s not across the ocean—you don’t have to send sailors out to get it, bring it back, and then explain it before you can live it. 14 No. The word is right here and now—as near as the tongue in your mouth, as near as the heart in your chest. Just do it! 15 Look at what I’ve done for you today: I’ve placed in front of you Life and Good Death and Evil. 16 And I command you today: Love God, your God. Walk in his ways. Keep his commandments, regulations, and rules so that you will live, really live, live exuberantly, blessed by God, your God, in the land you are about to enter and possess. 17 But I warn you: If you have a change of heart, refuse to listen obediently, and willfully go off to serve and worship other gods, 18 you will most certainly die. You won’t last long in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess. 19 I call Heaven and Earth to witness against you today: I place before you Life and Death, Blessing and Curse. Choose life so that you and your children will live.
Here are three ways you can do this…
Paul wrote a book about joy… from prison.

1. Choose to look beyond what happened

Too many of us sit around thinking about what happened over and over. Leading cause of suicide is people takin their bad days and thinking about it.
Paul was locked up in prison…
Philippians 1:12 NLT
12 And I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News.

2. Choose to find new opportunities

Paul wrote a good portion of the bible while in prison.
He led countless people to the lord…
He led other inmates to the Lord.
Philippians 1:13–14 NLT
13 For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ. 14 And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear.

3. Choose to focus on what really matters

Paul did not get sidetracked… he focused on what really mattered.
Philippians 1:15–18 NLT
15 It’s true that some are preaching out of jealousy and rivalry. But others preach about Christ with pure motives. 16 They preach because they love me, for they know I have been appointed to defend the Good News. 17 Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me. 18 But that doesn’t matter. Whether their motives are false or genuine, the message about Christ is being preached either way, so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice.
