WHAT IS GODLY WISDOM?

According to Google Wisdom is:
THE QUALITY OF HAVING EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND GOOD JUDGMENT, THE QUALITY OF BEING WISE.
the soundness of an action or decision with regard to the application of experience, knowledge, and good judgment.
the soundness of an action or decision with regard to the application of experience, knowledge, and good judgment.
Key Ingredients for wisdom are:
KNOWLEDGE
APPLICATION of SUCH KNOWLEDGE
EXPERIENCE GAINED FROM THE PRODUCT OF SUCH APPLICATION.
THE UTILIZATION of SUCH KNOWLEDGE - assuming that the goal is for the good of the person and its surrounding and not just limited to human beings.
Wisdom is the culmination of all the above.

WHAT IS THE SOURCE OF WISDOM

James 1:5 NASB95
5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
There are two kinds of wisdom:
Wisdom that’s from the world.
Wisdom that’s from the Word.

ILLUSTRATION OF WISDOM

Previously in chapter there is wisdom in:
Following the “good” advice of parents with or without their presence.
Treasuring the commands of parents. To view it something valuable does you keep is close to your heart.
Keep wisdom pure and not allow any other views to cloud it or question it causing you to doubt it.
Keeps close that it you are always ready to use it right away.
Love wisdom like you love a sister. Love them like you love family.

THE URGENCY OF WISDOM

Wisdom is so important and there is a sense of urgency to have it because the days are evil.
According to , how important and critical it is to posses it.
Proverbs 8:1–3 NASB95
1 Does not wisdom call, And understanding lift up her voice? 2 On top of the heights beside the way, Where the paths meet, she takes her stand; 3 Beside the gates, at the opening to the city, At the entrance of the doors, she cries out:
Proverbs 8:1–3 NLT
1 Listen as Wisdom calls out! Hear as understanding raises her voice! 2 On the hilltop along the road, she takes her stand at the crossroads. 3 By the gates at the entrance to the town, on the road leading in, she cries aloud,
It is important and it is good acquire it in a timely manner or not to delay in having it.
It is wants to be possessed.
Where is it necessary? Everywhere and all the time.
“Calls out!”
Notice the places verses 2-3 sites to make it’s point:
Hilltop along the road - important decisions in life.
Crossroads - important choices in life.
Gates at the entrance to the town - necessary when embarking on new endeavors and as one engages through these endeavors.
She not only calls out but “CRIES ALOUD” - emphasis, pleading.
In order to posses wisdom it does not come to you but you go to her. It means it is acquired, cultivated, learned and earned.
It is available to anyone who wants it and get’s it.
It reminds us of a portion of the doctrine of SALVATION THAT IT THROUGH CHRIST ALONE! Although salvation is given and not earned but it is FREELY given to those who want it, believe in Christ. To BELIEVE IS TO TRUST and not merely an intellectual process but a personal decision after understanding it.

WISDOM FOR EVERYONE

Proverbs 8:4 NASB95
4 “To you, O men, I call, And my voice is to the sons of men.

Wisdom is for everyone to have.
“To you, O men” is referring to all mankind.
It want’s to be heard. There is a purpose why this pulpit is in front, not in the back, in the middle and not off to the side.
MIDDLE - centrality of God’s Word to all believers.
IN FRONT - in order to be hear openly, clearly and without misunderstanding. You are not taught from the back but from the front where you can see and hear clearly.
Note our EARS’ position in human anatomy. Also observe its shape and where it is facing.
Selective Hearing - man tends to tune out other sounds in preference of others that one want’s to hear.
What makes you want to hear the call? There had been times when parents call their children from a distance or from their rooms that they either answer or ignore the call. But what makes you and me want to have wisdom? It is common interest for the positive things in life.
Today the Holy Spirit is busy engaging human beings to either know for the first time and to know all the time.
Wanting wisdom is a product of a more foundational wisdom taught and learned at an early stage in life.
Believers who know a lot about the Word, knows a lot about the Bible because of their desire to learn of GOd and his/her willingness to receive wisdom from Him.
We can learn from our pets, for example dogs. Trained or untrained food is a big motivator. They go to where the food is. They have a strong yearning for their stomach to be filled.
How about you, do you have a strong and urgent yearning for God’s Word which will transition to Wisdom eventually when applied properly.
There is wisdom in getting wisdom so when temptation comes knocking in your heart, you will decide to say no to it.

HEARING IS HEEDING AND IT IS A GOOD THING!

Proverbs 8:6 NASB95
6 “Listen, for I will speak noble things; And the opening of my lips will reveal right things.
Proverbs
What kind of things come out of wisdom? “NOBLE THINGS!”
Noble things - referring to fine personal qualities or high moral principles and ideals. These qualities are of God and totally opposite of from the devil’s.
The root word for “righteous” is right - right on whose perspective? The Lord’s, for He is declared by scriptures as righteous.
Psalm 1:4–6 NASB95
4 The wicked are not so, But they are like chaff which the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish.
Despicable things are of the devil.
We are to reject unrighteousness (SIN) and embrace righteousness for it of God.
One challenge for parents is to teach their children to “obey them obediently.”
Parents want their children to obey them well. They do not want to have children to huff and puff and roll their eyes and stamp their feet even when they do what parents ask of them. (Ex. Take out the trash, wash dishes, walk the dog, mow the lawn, etc. They do not want children who obey in body while their hearts are filled with rebellion and hatred of authority. Yet somehow this seems to be their natural tendency.
When a child has a hard time obeying his or her parents it will beginning sign of one struggling with authority in the future.
Adults who have a hard time with authority are those who had a hard time with listening, obeying and respecting their parents while growing up. So let this be a warning sign of things that may come when it is not corrected.
Parents need to established at an early stage in a child’s life that they are the authority. Parent’s used that authority to train them in ways of the Lord so that when they grow up they will not depart from it.

FROM NOBLE THINGS TO TRUTHFUL THINGS

Proverbs 8:7–8 NASB95
7 “For my mouth will utter truth; And wickedness is an abomination to my lips. 8 “All the utterances of my mouth are in righteousness; There is nothing crooked or perverted in them.
It is a sad state today that we a running short of good examples. With the news so accessible today through social media we learn of politicians (this is a given) lying for the whole country to see.
Politics and truth tend to be an irony. Politicians are suppose to be respectable individuals with so much wisdom, which is one of the reason why they are voted into office and yet they get caught lying and covering up any criminal and immoral behaviors.
We see again from this, that wisdom is absolute truth. Those who are wise speak nothing but the absolute truth. Anything other than truth is an abomination (displeasing to God).
As a pastor this is the sermon that precedes from the mouth to my mouth not to be slanted, but straightforward. I speak as the Lord speaks.
We see again from this, that wisdom is absolute truth. Those who are wise speak nothing but the absolute truth. Anything but truth is an abomination (displeasing to God).
Wisdom that comes from above is absolute truth. The wise speaking nothing except the absolute truth. Anything lie is an abomination (displeasing) to God.
Exodus 20:16 NASB95
16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
As a new creation you should rid yourself of this old way of lying which is of your former father, the Devil. We are familiar of Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! And how about I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Colossians 3:9 NASB95
9 Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices,
In the early church, Ananias and Sapphira lied regarding a donation in order to make themselves look more generous than they really were. Peter’s rebuke is stern: “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit?” God’s judgment was sterner: the couple died as a result of their sin of lying.

FROM TRUTHFUL THINGS TO PLAIN THINGS

Proverbs 8:9 NASB95
9 “They are all straightforward to him who understands, And right to those who find knowledge.
Romans 1:19 NASB95
19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.
Romans 1:9 NASB95
9 For God, whom I serve in my spirit in the preaching of the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how unceasingly I make mention of you,
Keeping it plain makes it more accessible to understanding and applying.
Anyone who subjects his minds to the obedience of His Word will understand and gain moral knowledge and wisdom to recognized it.

RECEIVING IS BELIEVING and BELIEVING IS TRUSTING

Prov 8:
Proverbs 8:10 NASB95
10 “Take my instruction and not silver, And knowledge rather than choicest gold.
We are not to trust in gold and silver. Gold and Silver is a symbol of material things that is perishable.
Wisdom is something
It takes a lot of convincing from the Holy Spirit to deprogram our minds from wanting to know Christ over and above our wordly achievement.
Let’s read again Paul’s attitude about Jesus compared to his previous old life’s achievement.
Philippians 3:8 NASB95
8 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ,
There is a reason why youth Bible study is on a Friday. It provides the grounds for the youth to exercise spiritual maturity and transformation.
Proverbs 8:11 NASB95
11 “For wisdom is better than jewels; And all desirable things cannot compare with her.
How is Wisdom better than jewels?
Wisdom and and material possessions are compared side by side as something precious but there is a big difference.
Material things will corrupt the heart. It focuses on self blinding one from the truth of how life is temporary.
Wisdom is more secure and cannot be stolen. It keeps you out of trouble from God. It keeps you grounded on Holy ground.
Man wants to adorn self with materialism to draw attention to him on the other hand those who fear the Lord is convicted to empty himself down to humility in order for the Lord to bless him richly with more lasting things.

WISDOM IS MORE PRACTICAL THAN JEWELS

Proverbs 8:12 NASB95
12 “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And I find knowledge and discretion.
It is more practical to posses Wisdom that will carry you to the future. With carrying comes the idea of managing and handling challenges in life in way that glorifies God.
Wisdom will keep your morally sharp while jewels will blind you of its material glitziness.
This is saying that it is practical and applies to everything in life.

CONCLUSION

WHAT’S IN YOUR WALLET?

Proverbs 8:13 NASB95
13 “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverted mouth, I hate.
Wisdom or Gold, silver and rubies?
Prov.
Proverbs 8:14 NASB95
14 “Counsel is mine and sound wisdom; I am understanding, power is mine.
We learned earlier that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Fear is utmost reverence when speaking of God.
We learned earlier that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Fear is reverence to the ultimate when speaking of God. God hates evil. If we are His, we hate what He hates.
If we have the nature of God, if we have the heart of God, if we have the mind of Christ, if the Holy Spirit dwells in us thus we should like what God likes and hate what He hates. The last time a read in scripture He hates evil. If we are His, we hate what He hates.
Our new life in Christ is stripped of our old fallen nature. With Christ as our foundation let us continuing build on it we come closer face to face with Him where some of loves one a gone already.
As we said in a previous lesson, pride and arrogance have no place with us. We are no more than what God has allowed us to be. If we have pride, it should be pride in that we are His and not our own. We are either children of light following the Lord, or we are children of Satan and follow him. We must hate evil to please God. Turn from even the appearance of evil.
Pride and arrogance have no place with us. We are no more than what God has allowed us to be. If we have pride, it should be pride in that we are His and not our own. We are either children of light following the Lord, or we are children of Satan and follow him. We must hate evil to please God. Turn from every appearance of evil.
It is better to listen than to speak, unless the words in our mouth are placed there by the Lord. Pride and arrogance is the opposite of being humble. The Lord loves the humble. The evil way is the way of the devil. The froward mouth comes from an evil heart and speaks ungodly things.
It is better to listen than to speak, unless the words in our mouth are placed there by the Lord. Pride and arrogance is the opposite of being humble. The Lord loves the humble. The evil way is the way of the devil.
Luke 6:45 ESV
45 The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
Luke
Wisdom hates pride and self exaltation above all.
Wisdom hates what God hates. The highest virtue is humility (submission to God), and thus wisdom hates pride and self exaltation above all.
