I may be down but I’m not out

2 Samuel 9:1–5 KJV 1900
And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake? And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he. And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet. And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lo-debar. Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar.
II Samuel 9:1-
I have some quotes I would like to read to us today
“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up”
Thomas Edison
“When things go wrong, don’t go with them”
Elvis Presley
“I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game-winning shot, and I missed. I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed”
Michael Jordan
“What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything”
Vincent Van Gogh
“Anyone who has never mad a mistake has never tried anything new”
Albert Einstein
“All the adversity I’ve had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me…you may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you”
Walt Disney
“Don’t worry about failures, worry about the chances you miss when you don’t even try”
Jack Canfield
“Challenges are gifts that force us to search for a new center of gravity. Don’t fight them. Just find a different way to stand”
Oprah Winfrey
“My powers are ordinary. Only my application brings me success”
Isaac Newton
Harland David Sanders, was 65 years old, he found himself bankrupt after his restaurant business had failed.
He drove around in his car, pleading with diner and restaurant owners to use his fried chicken recipe. The deal was that for every piece of chicken sold, they were to give him a nickel as a commission.
He was turned down 1,009 times before a restaurant agreed to use his recipe, which he called Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Today, Colonel Sanders is an iconic figure representing one of the tastiest fried chickens in the world.
The one thing everyone of these famous people have in common is the fact that in their life, they all experienced failure.
Everyone of them felt rejection.
They all new what it felt like to be down.
They all understood what struggle was like
It is easy to look at them now and say but they are so successful now
Yeah but they have not always been on the top
They all
There was a day in their lives where they were down
There was a day they wanted to throw in the towl
There were times where they did not want to get back up
Each one of these people we have mentioned all come from very different backgrounds
They are so successful
They all have different paths of arrival
They
They all have experienced different types of failures and rejections
But they all have a couple things in common
They have all been down, and they all picked themselves back up and tried again
So I must remind us today
We may be down but we are not done
It ain’t over
We have not lost the battle
We may be down and we may feel defeated but
We will get back up and we will continue to fight the good fight of faith
Micah 7:8 KJV 1900
Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: When I fall, I shall arise; When I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.
The scripture tells us that when we fall
It did not say if we fall
Its not a question of
It did not say maybe we fall
It said when we fall
Thats telling me that we are going to fall
We are going to be down
But the only way the enemy will rejoice is if we stay down
And I have come to tell someone today
We may be down but we are not done
Look out Satan I got one more round in me
It may be dark for the moment but the Lord is my light
we may not be able to see the light
When we begin to call on His name, He will be a light unto our path
God has called each of us
He has chosen us
We are here for a purpose
He looked past all of our imperfections
And placed His calling upon us
When God calls us he equips us
When God called the birds to fly He gave them wings
When God calls us into relationship with Him, He gives us what we need to be successful in this relationship with Him
Philippians 3:14 KJV 1900
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
We must continue to press, no matter what is going on in our life at this time
We may be down but we are not out
We must get back up and press towards the mark
God has never required us to be perfect
He has never given up on us just because we fail
He never gives up because we are down
He is a God of Grace and Mercy
Get back up and keep going
2 Samuel 4:4 KJV 1900
And Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.
II Samuel 4:
This young boy living the dream
No care in the world
All of a sudden there comes word to his babysitter that Saul has been killed and that his dad Jonathan has also been killed
This young girl begins to pack bags in a hurry and does her best to get Mephibosheth to safety.
But with all the hurry and all the haste some how this boy takes a fall that changes his life forever
This boy who was destine for greatness
This boy who was born into the right house
This boy who was in the shadows to become King
This boy who never would understand what it ment to need or want
His whole life changes in a moment of time
This boy goes from future heir to the throne to a young boy running for his life with his babysitter
Oh how life changes so fast
One day he is heir to the throne and the next day he is running for his life afraid that the men who killed his grandpa and dad would come after him
The next time we read of Mephibosheth is
Many years have passed
David is now king over all of Isreal
Sons were born unto David
David defeats the Philistines
God strikes Uzzah dead for touching the Ark
The Ark comes home to Jerusalem
Davids wife confronts him about embarrassing himself with his worship
David desires to build a house for God
God tells him no
David continues to defeat enemies in battle
As David continues to re
Then we finally hit chapter 9
Chapter 9 is what we opened up with today
David is asking his trusted servant Ziba, is there anyone left from the house of Saul by way of Johnathan?
Ziba begins to tell King David about a boy who was lame in his feet
David begins to ask where is this young man?
Ziba says he is in Lo-debar
The thing about Lo-debar is nothing good comes out of Lo-debar
It is a place where the rejects go to live
It is a place full of misfits
It is a place where people just don’t go if they don’t have to
But that is where we find Mephibosheth
King David sends for Mephibosheth
And it is up to Mephibosheth to answer the call of the King
I can not imagine it was an easy decision for Mephibosheth
Was he thinking what does the king want with me?
Does he want to kill me?
Does he want to make me a public example?
Does he want to kill me because Saul is my grandpa?
I can not even begin to think of how Mephibosheth felt that day he was confronted by the kings servants
But he had a decision to make that day
Would he continue to live in this place of sorrow and hurt
Would he continue to live with the mistakes of his past hanging over his head
Or would he make a decision to give the king a try
Do I continue to live the same was I have been living or do I try the king and just maybe he will give me a second chance and change my circumstances
When he gets to the king
The king changes his life forever
No longer will he be living in want and need
No longer will he be just surviving
No longer will he be know as the lame man who lives in Lo-debar
From this day forward he will be know as the son of Jonathan who eats at the kings table everyday as if he was the son of the king
No longer was he a man of want but he was a man of much land and many servants
The king changed his life
Today you and I have a decision to make
Will we give the king a try
Or will we continue to live in the shadows of our past mistakes in places that we were never intended to live in
Today is the day that the king is calling us to his tabel
It does not matter you past
It does not matter how many mistakes or how big the mistake
It does not matter if you come with imperfections
The king has a place at his table
We may be down but we are not done
Get up and get to the kings tabel
Your success depends on you not your circumstance
Will you get back up and try again
No matter how many times we get rejected
No matter how many times we fail
No matter how bad it looks today
Get back up and keep going
We may be down but we are not dont
