Isaiah 7:10-14

Introduction:

Question: What percentage of people know what Christmas is all about?

Three Main Points:

I. The Signs of Prophecy.

A. A virgin conceives. - Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:34

B. The virgin bears a Son. - L- Isaiah 7:14

Significance: A virgin bearing a Son refers to the humanity of Christ.

C. The Son is given. - L- Isaiah 9:6

"Given" refers to Christ's pre-existence Philippians 2:5,6 - L - John 1:2; 14

Significance: "A Son is given" refers to Christ's divine existence.

D. The Son's special name. - L- Isaiah 7:14

"Emmanuel" means God with us. I John 3:20, Jeremiah 32:17

Significance: The virgin's Son would be both God and man.

II. The Son's Characteristics. - L- Isaiah 9:6

A. The Wonderful Counselor.

B. The Mighty God. - L- Matthew 28:18

C. The Everlasting Father. - Revelation 1:11, L- Isaiah 46:10

D. The Prince of Peace. - L- Luke 2:14

III. The Son's Special Kingdom. - L- Isaiah 9:7

A. No Confusion.

B. No Chaos.

C. No Complexity.

D. No Conflict.

Three Dimensions of Jesus Christ's Peace:

1. He offers peace from God. - Romans 1:7

2. He makes peace with God. - Romans 5:1

3. He provides the peace of God. - Philippians 4:6,7

Conclusion: Four Points of Interest

1. God's prophecies always come true. - L- Isaiah 7:14

2. God's greatest gift to us was His own Son. - L- Isaiah 9:6

3. God's government led by His Son provides us peace. - L- Isaiah 9:7

4. God's Son is the Judge Who is just. - L - Isaiah 9:7
