The story of the Wisemen at the first Christmas has always been an intresting story. You would not normally couple the wisemen story with the book of Hebrews. But when you do, you find the very reason for the gifts they brought to the Savior. Pastor Bill helps to connect the dots between the two so we can see the magnitude of the King of Christmas.

A Fresh Start

I love this time of year because there is a newness in the air. The new year is coming and everyone starts planing a fresh start. Would it be nice to have a fresh start in your life.
You hear people talking about the past as they saying, “Man if I could go back I would do things different.” But we know that’s just a dream. We can’t go back we can only move forward. Can’t you see Adam and Eve at the start of the new year. “Man, If I could just go back I would do things different.” But they could either.
The reason why I love the Christmas story so much is it provides for all of us a fresh start.
To start fresh and new is to go back past your past and find where what God originally intended it to be.
To see creation as it is supposed to be you have to go back to the beginning when it was good, very good.
A new family for us to be apart of.
A new promise of hope.
To see your marriage the way it is supposed to be you have to go back to the first marriage: one man one woman for a lifetime.
A new King with a new kingdom that we are invited into.
To have the right relationship with God You have to go back to the way it was before the fall. When you are born again in the line of Jesus the curse of death is removed and you can have an eternal life with God as it was in the beginning.
If you are hear this morning and your looking for a fresh start. You need to understand the real story of the King of Christmas.
If you are hear this morning and your looking for a fresh start. You need to understand the real story of the King of Christmas.
I love the story of the Maggi, the wisemen of the story of Christmas that came and honor the new King. And although we don’t know how many Maggi came we do know that they brought 3 gifts of God, Frankincense, and Myrrh.
Most, however, don’t understand the significance these gifts really have and the story that thy tell. And for me to help you understand we need to understand I little more about who this baby Jesus really was.
Here is what the Maggi knew about this baby born in a manger.
He is the Everlasting Prophet, the Everlasting Priest, and the Everlasting King.
Message: Defining the Passage

The Order of Melchizedek

Hebrews 6:19–20 ESV
We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
Hebrews 6:
There are two lines of priesthoods in the Bible.

The Old Order of Aaron

The one we are most familiar with is the line of Aaron and the priesthood of the Levites. Which is where we get the levitical law and the laws for the attornment for sin and righteousness.
Under the order of Aaron there were prophets, priests, and kings. But these were not to hold the same office. A priest was not the king and the King wasn’t a prophet.
Under the order of Aaron there was a continual need for sacrifices and atonement for sins because they were using the blood of bulls and goats.
The order of Aaron had to first make an atonement for their own sin before offering sacrifice for the people.
The priest were appointed until death, because they would all die and need to be replaced.
There are many today that are still trying to keep the levitical laws not understand that priesthood of Aron has past.

The New Order of Melchizedek

But there is another line of priesthood that comes before Aaron and Moses and before the Levitical law. It is the order of Melchizedek.
To start fresh and new is to go back past your past and find where what God originally intended it to be.
To see creation as it is supposed to be you have to go back to the beginning when it was good, very good.
To see your marriage the way it is supposed to be you have to go back to the first marriage: one man one woman for a lifetime.
To have the right relationship with God You have to go back to the way it was before the fall. When you are born again in the line of Jesus the curse of death is removed and you can have an eternal life with God as it was in the beginning.
Under the order of Melchizedek a man was prophet, priest, and king all at the same time.
Genesis 14:17–20 ESV
After his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley). And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. (He was priest of God Most High.) And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!” And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
Gen 14:1
The priesthood of Melchizedek is superior to Aaron.
Hebrews 7:1–3 ESV
For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace. He is without father or mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest forever.
Hebrews 7:

He was the King of Salem = King of Peace
he was spoke blessing over Abraham as a prophet.
He had no genealogy, no beginning, no end.
He was a picture of the Son of God, a Prophet, Priest, and King forever.
Hebrews 7:7–8 ESV
It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior. In the one case tithes are received by mortal men, but in the other case, by one of whom it is testified that he lives.
heb 7:
Abraham, the great grandfather of Levi humbled himself before Melchizedek by giving his tithe which is a act of worship to the king.
Hebrews 7:9–10 ESV
One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchizedek met him.
Hebrews 7:9 ESV
One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham,
