Luke 9:57–62 NKJV
57 Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” 59 Then He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.” 61 And another also said, “Lord, I will follow You, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.” 62 But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

I. No Material Promises

Endure Discomforts

Endure Disaster

Matthew 10:22 NKJV
22 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.
Commendable
1 Peter 2:19 NKJV
19 For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully.
The first man tells Jesus that he has no restrictions on where, the destination.
Following Jesus is more than giving up Places but Pleasures

II. No Other Pledges

Luke 9:59 NKJV
59 Then He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”
Luke 9:60 NKJV
60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.”
2. The second man is asked by Jesus to follow Him. He responded by saying yes but after attending to family obligations.
Following Jesus is putting your new Priority over your Parents

III. No Postponing

Luke 9:61 NKJV
61 And another also said, “Lord, I will follow You, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.”
The third man told Jesus that he would follow Jesus after he said his final goodbyes to his family.
Luke 14:18–20 NKJV
18 But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.’ 19 And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.’ 20 Still another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’

62 But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.
Following Jesus is letting go your Past and pursuing your new Present
Have you put away your stipulations?
Have you put away your prior obligations?
Have you put away your wants, hopes, dreams, and ambitions, because you know that Christ is all you NEED?

Counselor
Everlasting Father
Prince of Peace
Alpha and Omega
Light of the World
Water of life
The Great Prophet
The High Priest
The Lamb of God
HIS LOVE IS Undeniable
HIS WILL IS Unvarying
HIS MERCY IS Unusual
HIS JUDGMENT IS Unswayable
HIS GRACE IS Unsurpassable
HIS WORD IS Unshakable
Following Jesus is more than giving up Places but Pleasures
Following Jesus is putting your new Priority over your Parents
Following Jesus is letting go your Past and pursuing your new Present

28 Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.” 29 So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, 30 who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.
