The angel’s purpose is that of a messenger.
He is has a message..and shares it.
There are some important points about the message.
It was not for the purpose of popularity.
“In the Region”
Bethlehem was packed with people.
It was personal.
Doesn’t mean you cannot share the message to a crowd.
What was the message?
“Good news of great joy.”
“It is for all the people.”
· “Born to us this day, in the city of David…”
· A Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Savior: Why is He a savior?
Paul explains it Roman 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Starting with the Shepherds, we are all given the role as messengers.
Luke 2:17 “…and when they saw it, they made known to them the saying that had been told to them concerning this child.”
After the angels delivered the message,
The shepherds immediately wanted to see Christ
They THEMSELVES became messengers.
Wouldn’t we like to have the same response when we share the message?
It takes more than words to be a messenger.
Have you ever heard someone talk correctly about the facts of the bible and sense their message is just dead?
I have spoken with bible “scholars” who can tell you all sorts of things about the bible but have precious little evidence of their own salvation.
“Let me tell you what I know” vs “Let me show you what I see.”
There is another part of the message that we see in Luke that is absolutely essential.
The Glory of the Lord.
What is God’s glory?
Aspect of all the divine attributes of God.
It was a part of the original message.
It was proclaimed by the multitude of heavenly hosts
It was proclaimed by the shepherds.
God’s glory is the reason we exist.
Idolatry is attributing God’s glory to created things.
What the world glorifies will not last.
God’s glory is so important to the message of the Gospel that we see also toward the end of Jesus’ earthy ministry….in
the High Priestly prayer.
(Jesus Prays for US!!
We have been “given” this glory – we are reflectors of it.
The Glory of God gives us unity and our unity proclaims our message of Christ!
