THE FEAR OF GOD

As I look around today, as I watch Tv, listen to radio even talk with people and other churches. One thing I have noticed is that we have absolutely no fear of God anymore!!!!! People in this world today do whatever they want to and could care less if it is Gods will or not. We have no regard for Gods word, Gods will, or Gods way.

  Church listen; God started His people out to fear honor and praise Him. Not in that order maybe. Look at the 10 commandments

      You shall have no other gods before me
      You shall not make for yourself an idol
      You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God
      Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy

Text:  Romans 3:18

18     “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

So for a Jew not to fear God was the height of sin and rebellion.

      High treason against the King of kings. Quoting several OT psalms, Paul continued to assert that all God’s creatures, both Jew and Gentile, sin against their Creator. No one is righteous (3:10–12). Rather, they speak (3:13–14) and do (3:15–17) many ungodly things, with no apparent fear of judgment (3:18). Such awareness of sin should humble us before God (3:19); the law, far from justifying us, only makes us more aware of our sin

10 As it is written:

      “There is none righteous, no, not one;

11     There is none who understands;

     There is none who seeks after God.

12     They have all turned aside;

     They have together become unprofitable;

     There is none who does good, no, not one.”

13     “Their throat is an open tomb;

     With their tongues they have practiced deceit”;

     “The poison of asps is under their lips”;

14     “Who’s mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.”

15     “Their  feet are swift to shed blood;

16     Destruction and misery are in their ways;

17     And the way of peace they have not known.”

18     “There is no fear of God before their eyes

Now Paul and the Apostles believed all were guilty, we are guilty of this today. For instance v11, v12 etc. but v17 and v18 sums it all up. So I put together 7 fears of God

I. THE FEAR OF GOD IS A GREAT RESTRAINT FOR EVIL

Proverbs 16:6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

A. We need a revival to restore the fear of God to human hearts.

B. If we fear God, we regard His authority. Fear His displeasure.

C. When the fear of God is right, the heart is kept right.

II. THE FEAR OF GOD WILL BRING PEOPLE TO CHRIST FOR SALVATION

Psalm 85:9 Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may Dwell in our land.

A.  The fear of God will cause people to depart from evil. Proverbs 16:6

B. The fear of God will move us to get others saved.  Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

C. If we had more of the fear of God in our churches, we would have more saved

III. THE FEAR OF GOD WILL PRODUCE PURITY -

Psalm 19:9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

A. The fear of God will keep us clean when love won't

B. Unless the fear of God is in our hearts, we won't shun sin and hate it.

C. The fear of God in our hearts will make us what we ought to be.

IV. THE FEAR OF GOD WILL AFFECT OUR WHOLE LIFE. -

Psalm 34:9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

A. It will affect our marriage. Eph. 5:21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

B. It will affect our relationships Col 3:22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God;

C. It will affect our happiness and holiness. Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

V. THE FEAR OF THE LORD WILL AFFECT OUR WORSHIP

Ecclesiastes. 5:1

 Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.

A.  The modern day of ungodliness 2 Tim 3:5  5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6 Forof this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

B. The vows so easily made too easily broken. Ecc. 5:4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; For He has no pleasure in fools.

     Pay what you have vowed—

5     Better not to vow than to vow and not pay.

C. All of this proves there is hardly any fear of the Lord in the human heart.

VI.  THE FEAR OF GOD IS A CURE FOR MAN MADE THINGS.

Psalm 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

A. Perfect love cast out all fear. 1 John 4:18 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

VII. THE QUESTION OF THE DAY -- DOST NOT THOU FEAR GOD?

A. Sinners fear the wrath of God. Romans 1:18  18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

B. Christians fear the chastisement of God. Hebrews 12:7 7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? 8But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. 9Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? 10For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. 11Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
