What does God have to do to get your attention?

There was a time in my life that God had to get my attention.

1. Laid off from work in Florida

2. Recap form a tractor trailer in my windshield

3. Two flat tires

4. One deer in front of me

5. You will not witness against me

Let’s look at Moses life and see what God had to do to get his attention.

I Moses got fired for conduct unbecoming a Pharaoh

1 Exodus 2:11-15 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren. 12 And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand. 13 And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow? 14 And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known. 15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well. (KJV)

2 Moses had ignored the truth of God.

3 Have we done any less

4 God allows us to choose and pay the price for our choice

II The Miraculous in the common place.

1 The burning Bush

1 Exodus 3:2-4 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. 4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. (KJV)

2 A bush on fire but not consumed

3 We are to be like this bush, burned up with God and yet still living.

4 Does this Get your attention.?

2 The staff of God

1 Exodus 4:1-5 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee. 2 And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod. 3 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it. 4 And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand: 5 That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee. (KJV)

2 The one thing feared most by man, yet God has control over it

3 We are to fear nothing when God is in control.

4 Does this get your attention?

3 A man’s hand

1 Exodus 4:6-7 And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow. 7 And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh. (KJV)

3 God heals all 4 Does this get your attention?

III The Holy Ground

1 Exodus 3:5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. (KJV)

2 Even 1/4” of shoe leather is too much worldliness between God and us.

3 Any place where God is, is Holy ground

4 Have you got on holy ground with God lately?

5 Does this get your attention?

What does the Lord have to do to get your attention? We say we want to grow in our knowledge of the Lord. Do our actions follow these lines? Moses, busy shepherding Jethro’s sheep behind Mount Horeb, the Mountain of God, saw this wonder and turned from his daily work to look upon it. Many times God may call us during our day; by a thought, a sight or a word from another. He is asking us to step aside for a moment to listen to Him or observe His way with something. Be prepared for these times. God does not force us to listen. But He does give us many opportunities to do so. It was only when God saw Moses had turned aside from his immediate task that He spoke. We can practice the presence of God by disciplining ourselves to watch for these moments. They may come at any time. When we turn aside for a moment, to listen to God, marvelous things come to us. Don’t miss them.
