By quoting Isaiah's prophecy regarding the coming Messiah, Matthew is actually laying down the claim here that Jesus Christ, son of Mary, conceived by the Holy Spirit, was in fact that long expected Messiah.

We often have dark places too. Often times this does not manifest itself in oppressive governments.
At least not for us here in the US, though Christians throughout the world are imprisoned and oppressed for their faith.

The Good News is that there is a message of Hope in Christmas. The Name Immanuel is a name of hope, meaning “God is with us.”

At first blush this seems like a conundrum… It doesn’t make any sense to us… As He is leaving us to be with God, He tells us that He is always with us… Not only that, He tells us that He is still with us even until today… because we have not reached the end of the age.

One way that Jesus is with us is through the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said that He gives us a Helper, that is always with us.

Jesus hasn’t abandoned us, but He is with us through this Spirit!
And we know that this spirit helps us to be with Jesus and Jesus helps us to be with the Father.

One thing that really helps me is knowing that the Spirit is interceding for me.

I know that I can be real with God and trust that the Holy Spirit is making things clear to God and that I can trust God to work on my behalf according to His plan, in His timing, and in His own way.
