Proverbs 1:7 ESV
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Reputation: the beliefs or opinions that are generally held about someone or something.

1. GOOD NAME

Proverbs 22:1 ESV
1 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.
GOOD NAME VS RICHES GRAPHIC
Question: If I offered you 1 of 2 things, which would you take? A good name or great riches?
The bible has given us the answer here - we should all choose to have a good name rather than the riches of the world.

We should be aware of what others think about us and what we think about ourselves.

Peter confesses Jesus as the Christ

Mark 8:27–30 ESV
27 And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” 28 And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” 29 And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” 30 And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him.
Jesus was not concerned with how any others viewed Him because of His own insecurity…Jesus knew who He was.
Jesus asked what others thought about Him because He understood that He was representing someone else…that His reputation would directly influence what others thought about God.
Matthew 5:16 ESV
16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
As Christians, how we behave and act will be a direct representation of God - whether it is accurate or not.

Two Names

We all have at least two names: First Name (Identifier), Last Name (Family)
Having the Wicker Last Name - I can go places and already be known because the reputation of my last name is already known to those around.
Maybe your parents have told you something along the lines of:
You’re a Johnson, Johnson’s never give up.
Whether the name that comes before you is good or bad, you can either choose to continue the good, redeem the bad, or tank the name.

2. BE THE FAVORITE

Proverbs 22:1 ESV
1 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.
Favor: grace, charm, popularity; pleasant, precious
NLT says “being held in high esteem”
Proverbs 22:1 NLT
1 Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold.
Question: How many of you want to be the favorite?

Jesus, The Favorite

Luke 2:52 ESV
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.
Jesus increases in wisdom
Jesus grew in favor with God and man
In order for Jesus to become the favorite, He had to be present with those around Him.
It’s not enough to just be around someone, we have to be present in the moment with them.
BONUS: make your time around others about them and not you. Pay your friends compliments, notice new things about them, remember important moments with them.
Be an addition not a subtraction to them!
You spend enough time present with others, you will become the favorite, because
