We’re going to explore the common uncommonness of being a Christian. We can learn so much from Daniel.

Background
Daniel lived in a time when ungodliness was everywhere. He lived when God’s people and Jerusalem were in captivity. Nebuchadnezzar was king. No one followed and worshipped the one true living God. Instead, the culture worshipped idols and many gods. No one lived according to God’s Word, but instead worshipped pagan gods that fit their lifestyle.
Daniel and three friends were chosen by the king to come to the king’s palace and train for three years. Part of the training included eating foods that would make Daniel and his three friends unclean according to God’s law.
Summarize
A time came in Daniel’s life when he had to choose: conform to culture or stay true to God.
If he choose the first option, he would still follow God, but comprise would be their story - “Oh it’s not a big deal, it’s just food, right?” Daniel and his friends would kind of be “undercover Christians” if they made the decision to conform, they would sin against their God. What would they do? What would you do?

Would you value Christian morals or society’s morals?
Would follow the absolute truth of God’s Word or relative truth of the culture?
Q - Right now, what do you do? Are you following the Jesus no matter what or are compromising when it gets hard?
When we compromise when it gets hard to follow Jesus, we make decisions that cause us to sin against Jesus.

Q - Why would Daniel resolve to not confirm for comfort?
A - The relationship with God - the gospel

> >Folks around you aren’t going to understand why you value seeking out time with God in His Word & value prayer.
>> Folks around you aren’t going to understand why you prioritize church on a weekly basis.
>> Folks around you aren’t going to understand why you leave practice early or miss a game.
>> Folks around you aren’t going to understand the reason why you treat others with compassion all the time.
IT’S ALL BECAUSE OF GOD’S GRACE IN YOUR LIFE THROUGH JESUS THAT FUELS ALL THOSE THINGS.
So! Daniel valued his relationship with God higher than defiling himself for the sake of making life a little easier.
What we need to understand students is that when we follow Jesus, it’s going to cost you. In the cost there’s no loss.

God proved faithful to Daniel’s faithfulness
When you commit ourselves to God, God takes care of you.
14 So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days. 15 At the end of ten days it was seen that they were better in appearance and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the king’s food.
God proved to be faithful to Daniel and the three friends. In the midst of being uncommon, Daniel knew that it was common for God to show up in his life.
Outsiders don’t understand this stuff. Because they do not know God like you do.
To Daniel, being uncommon to the world around him was worth it compared to his relationship with God. Even if God chose not to bless the situation, God was still enough for him.
All it really came down to was food and God. Easy, right?
