Sharing is caring!

You know the term “Sharing is caring.” And as we look at our passage tonight there is no doubt that this is what Paul is addressing.
We have previously seen the Spirits fruit, such things at love, kindness, goodness and gentleness. And as a result of that fruit we are able to help restore the fallen and help carry the burden of the heavy laden brother. Paul in our passage tonight goes on from carrying spiritual burden to physical burden. Then from physical burden to spiritual blessings and physical blessings.
Sharing is caring when we share with those who teach (Gal6:6)
Sharing is caring in what we sow we will reap (Gal6:7-9)
Sharing is caring when we do good to all men (Gal6:10)
Before getting to the passage let me touch on sharing just a little more. I think we can agree that “one another” is a common thread in the New Testament as is the word “fellowship” and in our passage today fellowship comes from the word Koinonia here in (v.6) which means to share in common, and that is one of the marks of Christianity as displayed in scripture;
All things in common (Act2:41-47)
Souls added, and they were devoted to one another, they had all things in common and began selling and sharing with one another as needed. And they did it not from compulsion but from sincerity of heart and they had favor with all men.
Common fellowship (Gal2:9)
Paul extended the right hand of fellowship by the apostles in Jerusalem
Common faith (Jude3)
in Jude 3 it says his intentions were to write about their common salvation, common faith depending on version you read.
Common suffering in Christ (Php3:10)
To share in the fellowship of His suffering.
Paul’s precept tonight is here in (v.6) see if you can identify it.
Galatians 6:6–7 NASB95
6 The one who is taught the word is to share all good things with the one who teaches him. 7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.
Galatians 6:8–9 NASB95
8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.
Galatians 6:10 NASB95
10 So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.
What do you see, what do you notice, what sticks out to you?

Share with those who teach

Faith comes by hearing, hearing from the word of God. Maturity comes by continuing to dwell in the apostles doctrine and applying it. Preachers, teachers share spiritual treasures, now look at Paul’s precept and let’s discuss it.
Did you catch the precept (v.6) - share all good things with those who teach.
What is shared in the material is evidence of how we value the Spiritual things. (Mt6:21)
Where your treasure is so is your heart
Jesus taught about giving for the teaching (Lk10:7)
Luke 10:7 NASB95
7 “Stay in that house, eating and drinking what they give you; for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not keep moving from house to house.
Why is the laborer worthy of his wage?
Paul further explains on sharing (1Tim5:17-18; or look at 1Cor9:3-11)
1 Timothy 5:17–18 NASB95
17 The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing,” and “The laborer is worthy of his wages.”
This precept is practiced in various churches (2Cor11:8-9)
2 Corinthians 11:8–9 NASB95
8 I robbed other churches by taking wages from them to serve you; 9 and when I was present with you and was in need, I was not a burden to anyone; for when the brethren came from Macedonia they fully supplied my need, and in everything I kept myself from being a burden to you, and will continue to do so.
Corinth did not have the money to support Paul, his support came from other churches so he would not be a burden on them. Sharing in the material because of the Spiritual that was given.
Now moving on from the material blessings to the spiritual blessings, sharing.
Sharing in the Spiritual blessings
Those in Jerusalem shared with the Gentiles (Rom15:26-27)
Romans 15:26–27 NASB95
26 For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem. 27 Yes, they were pleased to do so, and they are indebted to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual things, they are indebted to minister to them also in material things.
Why did they share in the material? = because the saints in Jerusalem shared the spiritual with them.
Paul demonstrated to the church at Corinth (1Cor9:11)
Paul shared spiritual things with those in Corinth and they were to share material blessings with Paul.
May we share the blessings we have in Christ (1Cor15:1-2)
You have heard, received, believed and standfast in the spiritual!
May we apply these truths in our lives (Jm1:21; 1Pt2:1-3)
James 1:21 NASB95
21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.
So be willing to receive and share the implanted word, putting aside the things of this world.
1 Peter 2:1–3 NASB95
1 Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, 2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, 3 if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.
Put aside the things of this world so you can grow in respect to your salvation. May we be a people who share the blessings of God’s Word with others.
Give so that you may receive a greater blessing (Gal6:7-8)
Don’t give so that those who teach have material needs met, but so that you may receive a greater blessing. Let’s press on and see what the blessing, greater blessing is.
This leads us from the precept to the principle. Let’s see if we can find it in the passage.
Galatians 6:7–8 NASB95
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
Galatians 6:9 NASB95
9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.
do you see the principle? It is “sow” evident

We reap what we sow!

Paul goes from sharing good, to sowing good. Living in an agriculture rich area here we know the principle of sowing and reaping.
(Reap what you sow picture)
I read a elongated quote that is, in my opinion worthy of sharing with you. It is from Madame Chiang Kai-shek she was a Chinese political figure who was the first lady of China back in the late 1900’s and early 2000’s.
“If the past has taught us anything it is that every cause brings its effect, every action has a consequence. We Chinese have a saying: “If a man plants melons he will reap melons; if he sows beans, he will reap beans.” And this is true of everyone’s life; good begets good, and evil leads to evil. True enough, the sun shines on the saint and the sinner alike, and too often it seems that the wicked prosper. But we can say with certainty that, with the individual as with the nation, the flourishing of the wicked is an illusion, for unceasingly, life keeps books on us all. In the end, we are all the sum total of our actions. Character cannot e counterfeited, nor an it put on and cast off as if it were a garment to meet the whim of the moment. Like the markings on wood which are ingrained in the very heart of the tree, character requires time and nurturing for growth and development. Thus also, day by day, we write our own destiny; for inexorably . . . we become what we do.”
Indication of the principle (2Cor5:10)
What we are today is due to what we did yesterday
Input impacts output, our position, our attitude, our character is a direct result of our input, our actions in the past
We cannot put the blame on others, blame others for our choices
We are impacted, influenced by the things that we allow in, again input impacts output.
We must accept responsibility for our actions. For one day we will stand alone before the throne of God and give an account.
2 Corinthians 5:10 NASB95
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
I think you would agree that the present oftentimes represents the past, or reveals much about the past.
What we are tomorrow, will be due to what we do today (2Cor5:17; Rom12:1-2; 1Pt2:1-2)
We are already subject to change when we turn to Jesus
2 Corinthians 5:17 NASB95
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
We are not a remade, remodeled version of ourselves we are a new creature, a new creation, the old is gone, the new has come.
We are being transformed by the renewing of our mind (Rom12:1-2) not to the best version of us, but into the likeness of Him. Again, we are reminded that input impacts output. So be sure you are renewed daily by His Word and allow God to transform you.
1 Peter 2:1–2 NASB95
1 Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, 2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,
Be renewed so that you may grow in respect to your salvation!
Change comes slowly, it is a process not an event
We must be sowing today so that we an reap tomorrow
We cannot go about “sowing our wild oats” and expect to reap a mature Christian
We become what we do! So now may we look at some applications of the principle
God gave us the precept of sharing with one another, God has sown the seed and the principle of reaping and sowing too, but He has also told us to be careful where we sow, that is where Paul comes now for some application.
Reaping and sowing, we have two options
Sow to the flesh (Gal6:8; Gal5:19-21; Eph5:5-7)
Galatians 6:8 NASB95
8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
Reap corruption, and you can read the partial list Paul gives of the things of the flesh in Gal5:19-21)
Sowing in the flesh results in experiencing the wrath of God.
Ephesians 5:5–6 NASB95
5 For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
The Warning given
Ephesians 5:7 NASB95
7 Therefore do not be partakers with them;
The instructions given - do not partake with them! Don’t sow to the flesh!
Sow to the spirit Gal6:8; Gal5:16-18; Gal5:22-23)
Sow to the spirit that results in eternal life
This entails us walking in the spirit as it says in (Gal5:16-18)
It results in the fruit of the Spirit as listed in (Gal5:22-23)
We should sow to the Spirit (Gal6:9-10; 2Cor9:6-7; Gal6:8; 1Tim6:17-19; Lk6:35 and Lk18:22)
Sow to the spirit by doing good to all people (Gal6:10)
Similar to the context we can see in Corinthians
2 Corinthians 9:6–7 NASB95
6 Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Sow to the spirit and reap eternal life (Gal6:8)
One more similar scripture we should check out together. since this is a bible study we cannot use too much scripture
1 Timothy 6:17–18 NASB95
17 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. 18 Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share,
1 Timothy 6:19 NASB95
19 storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.
What are the instructions in (v.17, 18)?
What are the results if proper sowing is done (v.19)?
As you sow in the spirit, do not grow weary of doing good, sowing good (Gal6:9)
That now leads us to one more verse to tackle tonight

Do good, to all men

According to scripture we are to do good to all men, so let’s close out tonight looking at this verse and some scripture to back this one up too.
Galatians 6:10 NASB95
10 So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.
To do good to all men
Those who are in need (1Tim6:17-18)
If God has blessed you than be ready and generous to share with those who are in need, we don’t have to look far do we?
Even to our enemies (Lk6:27-35)
I want to give just a couple of the verses in the Luke passage. I encourage you to read the rest on your own
Luke 6:27–28 NASB95
27 “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
Doing good is not always a financial thing is it? It is blessing those who curse you, acts of kindness, it is praying.
Do good as we have opportunity (Lk10:33; 1Cor16:1-2; 2Cor9:7)
Luke 10:33 NASB95
33 “But a Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion,
The Samaritan saw a need, had an opportunity and met the need. May we be willing to do the same when see an opportunity
In our community; in our neighborhood, on our block and yes even here in the church building where we try to distribute to those who are in need.
We are given the opportunity weekly based on our ability as Paul spoke of in (1Cor16:1-2), as we have purposed in our heart and to give cheerfully (2Cor9:7)
May we remember to do as the early church example set in Act 2 and Act4 be willing to help each other so no one is in need!
(Encouragement 1 - Do good picture)
Doing good starts inside, it is an inside job
Let God inside so he can change you from the inside out
Let God have his way in the transformation process and you will do good not out of compulsion but out of love for one another
Encouragement (Encouragement slide 2-good works-2 picture) Do good works doing the work of Jesus for you are His hands and His feet today! - prayer (Exit slides)
