The Setting of the Story - 5-12

Elizabeth is barren
Zechariah is at the peak of his career
The land is
Talk through the background of the story: Elizabeth’s place of barrenness, Zechariah’s position as priest, and the erosion of time. Tie this into the barrenness of the land, and apparent prosperity under Rome. Connect this to today with the spiritual barrenness of our nation and apparent prosperity of the church.

The angel’s message - 13-17

Do not be afraid … your prayer has been heard. v. 13
You will not be barren anymore. v. 14
Your son will be great before God. v. 15-17
He will be filled with the Holy Spirit v. 15
He will turn people back to God. v. 16
He will go on before the Lord… preparing a people for Him. v. 17
