Let’s see… Before Jesus began to pray, he said this, Matthew 6:9 “This, then, is how you should pray: What do you think he meant?______________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Our or my?___________________________________ Father, heaven and kingdom._________________________________________ Second half – Verses 11-13. – Us or me?_______________________________ Give, forgive and lead._______________________________________________ The First Overarching Purpose Principal Mathew 22:35 One of the Pharisees, an expert in the law, tested Jesus with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” What is Jesus saying in that last sentence? What astounding statement is he making?__________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________ As we begin to do a deep dig in the not-so-simple Lord’s Prayer, notice that its basic construction reflects one of Jesus’ overarching purpose principals. His purpose, and ours, is intricately intertwined with two non-negotiables. Loving God, and loving each other. This is the first lesson on learning how to pray. Learning how to pray the way Jesus prayed.
