The Greatest Gift

The word of God has been given to us to reshape our thinking about the world we live in.
In a world that seeks power, we must understand the basis of all that we have in Him.
God has given us powerful gifts. They are only evidence of the Greatest Gift of all. Though not listed it is what causes the power of God to be release in the life of the giver.

There are Nine Spiritual Gifts

1 Corinthians 12:8–10 KJV 1900
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
These gift help us to
++Know Supernaturally
++Speak Supernaturally
++Act Supernaturally
1 Corinthians 12:1 KJV 1900
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

A greater understanding

Spiritual Gifts
++Are not to be worshipped
1 Corinthians 12:4 KJV 1900
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
Spiritual Gifts
Are not to be worshipped
++Are submitted to authority
1 Corinthians 12:5 KJV 1900
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
Spiritual Gifts
Are not to be worshipped
Are submitted to authority
++Are stewarded not owned
2 Corinthians 4:7 KJV 1900
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
Spiritual Gifts
Are not to be worshipped
Are submitted to authority
Are submitted to authority
++Are to be desired
1 Corinthians 12:31 KJV 1900
31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

Spiritual Gifts at Work

1 Corinthians 13:1–3 KJV 1900
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

His gifts are for our growth

Ephesians 4:14 KJV 1900
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
God has given His gifts
++For Instruction
++For Maturity
++For Wisdom
1 Corinthians 2:4–5 KJV 1900
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
It is not
++The price we pay
++The gift itself

There is a value that goes beyond the Gift.

Hebrews 12:2 KJV 1900
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
John 3:16 KJV 1900
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
It is easy to focus on the Gift.
++It is what God Gave
++It was for everyone
++It would bring life
God wasn’t motivated
++By what we wanted
++By what we needed
++By what we have

It was love

No matter how gifted we are
Without love
++No Purpose
1 Corinthians 13:1 KJV 1900
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
Without love
No Purpose
No Identity
1 Corinthians 13:2 KJV 1900
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
Without love
++No Purpose
++No Identity
++No Benefit
1 Corinthians 13:3 KJV 1900
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

The Love Factor

++More than talking

You are more than what you say

1 Corinthians 13:1 KJV 1900

++Than indiscriminate sound

1 Corinthians 13:2 KJV 1900
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
What we know
++Doesn't make us
++Doesn't define us
++Reveals us
Acts 4:13 KJV 1900
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
Love adds value to the gift
More than Talking
More than Knowledge
++More than Doing

You are more than what you do.

1 Corinthians 13:3 KJV 1900
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
True benevolence
++Is not an activity
++Is not religion
++Is not duty
++Is desire based in Love
