Let brotherly love continue

This would’ve been immediately understood by them.

Origination

Leviticus 19:18 ESV
You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
Our love for each other is a witness
John 13:35 ESV
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
It is to our shame that we take each other to court
There should be no group in the world that is more accepting than the church. But notice that I did not say condoning.

Fulfillment

Luke 10:27 ESV
And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
Highlighting the complete understanding of Philadelphia, the author includes two other examples
Strangers
“Love your neighbor as yourself”
Lawyer once tried to test Jesus and asked him, “Who is my neighbor?”
Story of Good Samaritan
Those in prison
Does this mean criminals?
That is an outreach and is very important
In context, this probably means those being persecuted for their faith.
“As though in prison with them
Part of a Christian’s life should be practicing empathy.
You are part of a local body which is part of a universal body.
What Christian love looks like:
For the least of these…
Matthew 25:35–36 ESV
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’

Be Content

Hebrews 13:4 ESV
Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.
Marriage held in honor among all (v4)
Protecting marriage should be a cultural issue.
Keep the marriage bed pure
Remembering that lust begins in the heart
Where do you draw the line?
(It’s not a sin so it’s ok)
What’s the biblical perspective?
Proverbs 5:3 ESV
For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil,
“Keep yourself free from the love of money.”
“Why do you work overtime? Doesn’t your book say money is the root of all evil?”
Notice how this is said…it really puts the onus on you.
A proper attitude regarding money involves developing healthy practices with our finance.
One of those practices is being content with what you have.
(Because) “He has said, ‘I will never leave you or forsake you.’”
We may not have what “they have”, but we are not left to fend for ourselves.
I am going to say one of those practices include your giving to the church. (Why do I say that?)
There really isn’t a hard and fast “rule” that you need to meet.
10% is a good starting point
If you can’t give, you should ask yourself why not.

The Big Picture

Hebrews 13:22–23 ESV
I appeal to you, brothers, bear with my word of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly. You should know that our brother Timothy has been released, with whom I shall see you if he comes soon.
· (Meme) How to thank a veteran
How much more should this be true of Christ’s sacrifice?
