Things wont always go the way you expect. Have you ever been somewhere and it wasn’t what you expected? Here’s a real life example. Everyone has been ranting and raving about that Popeye’s sandwich. Sold out time and time again.

1. It’s OK to Question (v.18-20)

When you find yourself in the lowest points of your life it is okay to ask questions. I know that the old teaching was that we aren’t supposed to question God but that can be dangerous. When you don’t understand something you are supposed to ask questions.
When you were in class....you asked questions.
When you were in the hospital...
When that check came up short...
When that bill is overpriced at the restaurant...
It’s is also of the utmost importance to inquire is Jesus the Coming one. This is the most important question that John or anyone can ask regarding Jesus.

2. Go with What you Know (v.21-22)

The disciples of John were able to witness Jesus do his thing first hand. Jesus is in the middle of his ministry work and so he is curing infirmities, afflictions, casting out demons, giving sight to the blind, and presumed to be preaching while working. The see this, while they are waiting for an answer. Because know this church, Jesus might answer you by showing you before He tells you. Sometimes when you are waiting for God to speak it might do you well to look and see what God is doing.

3. What have you seen and heard

I’ve spent a little time in Church and I’ve spent a little time walking with Jesus. And I’ve learned a few things and now i “know” a few things.
I KNOW…all things work together…we life in him because he gives us his spirit…he loves us because he laid down his life for us… I know it was the blood…I know the lord will make a way…I know who holds tomorrow…Jesus love’s me this I KNOW.
When Jesus finally decides to open is mouth. He responds with “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard...” He wan’ts John (and us) to put our faith over our feelings. He doesn’t discount John’s experience but He does not allow John’s current feelings about Jesus to validate his faith.
Feelings will trick you. When you watch a scary movie you get frightened. Its not real, but you feel frightened.
Seen- Your experience is a witness.
Heard- the Gospel
The Word-Isaiah 35:5

3. Don’t reject the unexpected (v.23)

Just because Jesus didn’t do what you expected doesn’t mean you can’t receive what Jesus did do. Because If Jesus did it, then its good enough for me. And in fact God often does things different than we expect but its always better the way the does it. I have learned then to not reject the unexpected. I searched the scriptures and found God loves to do the unexpected.
Noah didn’t expect rain…But the unexpected happend it rained
Abraham didn’t expect to have a child in old age…but the unexpected happened father to many nations
Joseph didn’t expect to be sold into slavery…but the unexpected happened when he became leader of Egypt.
Moses didn’t expect to kill anyone…But the unexpected happened when he lead Israel to freedom
Hanna didn’t expect to be barren…but the unexpected happened when God heard her silent tears.
Sampson didn’t expect to lose all…but the unexpected happened
Isaiah didn’t expect King Uzziah to die… but the unexpected happened
Mary...Matthew…Paul…John didn’t expect to get locked up...
The Devil, that ol’serpent of old
