CALLED TO BE DIFFERENT

Numbers 14:38 ESV
Of those men who went to spy out the land, only Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh remained alive.
INTRODUCTION:
As we look at our society, we learn a lot about our modern culture. There are various expectations placed on us, and even pressure to fit into the mold of society. Sadly, many attitudes, perspectives and behaviors do not match that which God would desire us to have. Now a day’s people are coming as been all types of things other than what God desires us to be. A matter fact have ever seen on TV or read on Facebook, or other social media platforms of a Christian coming out. I once was a sinner now I’m saved. As a Christian you are called to be different. For a few minutes let’s look at .
In the Israelites received the report from the spies and in they complained because of what they heard from the report. They wanted to choose another leader and go back to Egypt. But Joshua and Caleb understood that they were called to be different so they stood before the people and that the land was exceedingly good land. Joshua and Caleb’s perspective of their situation caused them to stand out.

I. Can you stand out?
Can you stand out?
I. Can you stand out?
a. Joshua and Caleb trusted God and were committed to Him, whereas the people were afraid. Can you trust God, are you committed to God. Can you stand up when the pastor call out for those who want to evangelize to our youth. Can you stand up and say, here I am pastor send me. Are you an Christian, ‘And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”’ Are different than those who sit and looking around to see if someone is going to raise their have. Christians are called to be different, we are called to stand out in the crowd, not as someone big time, but because as this song lyrics says, ‘Everywhere I go I take my Jesus with me.’ (Play song)

b. This is why we are called to be different, this why we can stand out in the crowd. Don’t you know our youth should be shown this? Society has taught them how to stand out in the crowd but has the church taught them. Two teens was just killed in school and the individual who did, did on his 16th birthday and now he will forever stand out because of what he did. Church, when your eyes are on yourself and your circumstances, you will lose your perspective and say and do ridiculous things. If you don’t believe this look back on your life, now what do you think.

a. Vs. 10 ‘Then all the congregation said to stone them with stones.’ The Israelites didn’t like the fact that Joshua and Caleb were different. A matter of fact they hated them. As a Christian, when you stand up to be different, others will not like you. Those who you hang out with on a daily bases may turn against you when you stand up to be different. One commentary said, ‘when we walk by sight and not by faith, we don’t have sense enough to know who our real friends are, and we turn against those who can help us the most. Joshua and Caleb where walking by faith and they knew that the other 10 spies were not their friends.

b. Our youth today need to be taught and shown how to be different while walking by faith. Matter a fact do our churches today include the young men in the men’s group and young ladies in the women group. Bible does tell us to teach the youth, I’m not saying that they have to be at every group meeting but the group should have times that they teach the youth. When I was young we meet with the men’s group every other Saturday.

d. Our youth needs to be taught how to shine
d. Our youth needs to be taught how to shine
Our youth needs to be taught how to shine . When a Christian shines, they will do all things without grumbling or disputing, that they may be blameless and innocent, children of God. When youth dispute against their parents or others, their light will not shine before others. No longer will they be different. When your light shines before others it should never bring recognition to yourself, but to bring glory to God. There’s a fine line between being a light and putting on a show to get attention. It’s a matter of the heart.

Been different for God may cause you to be kicked out a group but remain standing with the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost.

b. I would be remorse if I didn’t tell that you should be different for God because Christ wounded for your transgressions, he even died and rose in the third day so that you can have your promise land.

As followers of Christ, we are not called to look
As followers of Christ, we are not called to look or act weird. But we are called to rise above the norm and live a life that glorifies Christ. Others may not like it, or even understand it, but when we are determined to live our lives for God, we will be different. I’m going to end with a question that I want you to ponder on. In what ways should people see Christ in you?
As followers of Christ, we are not called to look
